Clairy Browne provides us with a whole new pop sound, on her latest solo album Pool, exclusively premiering on BUST.com! The Australian born singer/songwriter’s mix of R&B; and pop music feels like she's calling summer to ask if it wants to hang out. This album is a departure from her last release, Clairy Browne and The Bangin’ Rackettes which had a much more retro vibe. Here, Browne was influenced by artists like Grace Jones, Tina Turner, Nicki Minaj and Beyoncé. On Pool, she channels the lineage of strong women and gives us a throwback to pop’s past.
This weekend, Kesha shared an update in her legal case against Sony and Dr. Luke, giving fans a glimpse of what goes on behind closed doors. In October 2014, Kesha filed a lawsuit against Dr. Luke, her producer, for sexual, physical, verbal and emotional abuse. That same day, Dr. Luke countersued Kesha for defamation. In 2015, Kesha filed a lawsuit against Sony Music, saying that the company knew about Dr. Luke’s abuse and did nothing about it. She also sought an injunction to let her release music without working with Dr. Luke.
One of our favorite NYC rockers, Zohra Atash of Azar Swan and Religious To Damn, interviewed another one of our faves, Anna Copa Cabanna, about her new music video "Manners" — premiering exclusively on BUST below. Anna Copa Cabanna is NYC DIY showgirl royalty from Down Under. Not only did she perform the wildly popular Rock and Roll Variety Show for years at Joe’s Pub, but you could catch her anywhere, from go-go-ing at Motor City Bar (RIP), to being the face and twirling body of The Pixies' song "Debaser" on their Doolittle tour.
Grimes is an outspoken pop electronica artist who has delighted critics, confounded listeners, and driven the Internet wild.
With the premiere of the new song "Eden," singer-songwriter Alexa Wilding is providing us with the melodic track we need to push through the day we thought was Friday but turns out is Thursday. "Eden" is the first single off Wolves, Alexa's third album to be released on Tiny Prism Records, due out in September 2016. Co-produced with Tom Beaujour, the bones of the album were recorded live in just one day, with Tim Foljahn on lead guitar, Jeremy Wilms on bass and Brian Kantor on drums. We can count on Wolves for earthy, hypnotic vibes.
"Oh my god/ You didn’t know I’d get ferocious," Thao Nguyen sings on her latest album, A Man Alive, out this month from Ribbon Music. These lyrics come from the album’s bass-heavy standout track, "Meticulous Bird," and it’s a declaration of the fearlessness she brings to her fourth studio album. It’s a tough, deeply personal, powerfully dissonant album, and it’s Thao’s strongest to date. She’s back, and she’s not pulling any punches. Adding grit and urgency to Nguyen’s songs is producer Merrill Garbus, better known as tUnE-yArDs.
This week Mary Weiss, lead singer of the 60s girl group The Shangri-Las, took to Facebook to tell Donald Trump to stop using their hit song "Leader of The Pack."Trump has been using the song, without permission from the band, at his "rallies." You know, those nice political rallies that usually end in someone getting punched in the face while The Donald spurs on his supporters, promising to pay their legal fees when they get arrested for assaulting peaceful protesters.
Tuesday, Michelle Obama released her single This Is For My Girls at SXSW. Though the song does not exactly feature FLOTUS, it does feature Missy Elliott, Janelle Monáe, Zendaya, Chloe & Halle, JadaGrace, Kelly Rowland, Kelly Clarkson, and Lea Michele, to name a few. The First Lady did contribute to producing the song that was written by Grammy winner Diane Warren. My Wild West is the latest album by folk artist Lissie and the first one under her own label. “It was such a kind of happy accident and I think I like reverse-pyschologyed myself because I essentially decided to take a break from music and I bought a farm in Iowa,” said Lissie. But boy am I happy that happy accident occurred. The album is soaring and empowering with cutting lyrics, in what is likely to be her most heartfelt work to date.
