Whole of government

Delivery of the Australian aid program is a whole-of-government effort which harnesses specific experience, skills and knowledge across a range of Australian Government agencies to help reduce global poverty and improve prosperity and stability in our region.

Other Government Departments delivering Australian Official Development Assistance include:

  • The Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research, which works to improve the productivity and profitability of the agricultural sector in the Indo-Pacific region through international agricultural partnerships
  • The Australian Federal Police, which undertake activities in the region aimed at establishing, developing and monitoring peace, stability and security.

The department also works closely with other government agencies on a range of initiatives to implement and enhance the effectiveness and transparency of the aid program.

Partnerships with Australian Governments and Universities

The department partners with Australian State and Federal Government agencies and with Australian public Universities to undertake capacity building activities in developing countries.

Funding from the Australian aid program has been provided through two competitive funding programs, the Government Partnerships for Development (GPFD) Program and the Public Sector Linkages Program (PSLP). No new rounds of these programs are currently planned. Under both of these programs, the implementing Australian Government agency or University also contributes to the project. Projects are strongly supported by the counterpart Government agencies and Universities in the relevant developing countries.

The GPFD program currently funds 24 projects. A list of these projects is given. GPFD projects are delivered in Indonesia, VietNam, Timor Leste, Kenya, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and the Philippines. GPFD projects are also delivered at a regional level in the Pacific and Indian Ocean and through links with regional organisations such as APEC and ASEAN. The currently funded GPFD projects will be completed by June 2018.

PSLP activities continue to be delivered in Asia, Pacific and Latin America with the final projects to be completed in June 2016.
