Jeffrey Atkins (born February 29, 1976), better known by his stage name Ja Rule, is an American rapper, singer, and actor from Queens, New York.
Born in Hollis, Queens, he debuted in 1999 with Venni Vetti Vecci and its single "Holla Holla". From 1999 to 2005, Ja Rule had several hits that made the top 20 of the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart, including "Between Me and You" with Christina Milian, "I'm Real (Murder Remix)" and Ain't It Funny with Jennifer Lopez, which both topped the US Billboard Hot 100, the Grammy-nominated #1 hit, "Always on Time" with Ashanti, "Mesmerize" also with Ashanti, and "Wonderful" with R. Kelly and Ashanti. During the 2000s, Ja Rule was signed to The Inc. Records, which was formerly known as Murder Inc. and was led by Irv Gotti. Due to his hits with his collaborators, Ja Rule has earned four Grammy nominations, and has earned six top-ten albums, two of which Rule 3:36 (2000) and Pain Is Love (2001), topped the US Billboard 200. He is also known for some well-publicized feuds with other rappers, in particular 50 Cent and Eminem.
Shawn Corey Carter (born December 4, 1969), known by his stage name Jay Z (formerly Jay-Z), is an American rapper, record producer, entrepreneur, and investor. He is one of the most financially successful hip hop artists and entrepreneurs in America. In 2014, Forbes estimated Jay Z's net worth at nearly $520 million. He is one of the world's best-selling artists of all time, having sold more than 100 million records, while receiving 21 Grammy Awards for his musical work, and numerous additional nominations. Consistently ranked as one of the greatest rappers ever, he was ranked number one by MTV in their list of The Greatest MCs of All-Time in 2006. Three of his albums, Reasonable Doubt (1996), The Blueprint (2001), and The Black Album (2003), are considered landmarks in the genre with all of them featured in Rolling Stone's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time.
As an entrepreneur and investor, Jay Z co-owns the 40/40 Club, and is the co-creator of the clothing line Rocawear. He is the former president of Def Jam Recordings, co-founder of Roc-A-Fella Records, and the founder of Roc Nation. He also founded the sports agency Roc Nation Sports and is a certified NBA and MLB sports agent. As an artist, he holds the record for most number one albums by a solo artist on the Billboard 200 with 13. Jay Z also has had four number ones on the Billboard Hot 100, one as lead artist. On December 11, 2009, Jay Z was ranked as the tenth-most successful artist of the 2000s by Billboard as well as the fifth top solo male artist and fourth top rapper behind Eminem, Nelly, and 50 Cent. He was also ranked the 88th greatest artist of all time by Rolling Stone.
Curtis James Jackson III (born July 6, 1975), better known by his stage name 50 Cent, is an American rapper, actor, entrepreneur, investor, record, film, and television producer. Born in the South Jamaica neighborhood of the borough of Queens, Jackson began selling drugs at age twelve during the 1980s crack epidemic. Although he left drug-dealing to pursue a musical career, he was struck by nine bullets in a 2000 shooting. After Jackson released the compilation album Guess Who's Back? in 2002, he was discovered by Eminem and signed by Shady Records, Aftermath Entertainment and Interscope Records.
With the aid of Eminem and Dr. Dre (who produced his first major-label album, Get Rich or Die Tryin'), Jackson became one of the world's best selling rappers and rose to prominence with East Coast hip hop group G-Unit (which he leads de facto). In 2003 he founded G-Unit Records, signing his G-Unit associates Young Buck, Lloyd Banks and Tony Yayo. Jackson had similar commercial and critical success with his second album, The Massacre, which was released in 2005. He released his fifth studio album, Animal Ambition, in 2014 and is working on his sixth studio album: Street King Immortal, scheduled for release in 2016.
Read more about Murder Inc here: http://thencs.org/murderincorp Murder Incorporated was the name the press gave to the group of mob #hitmen who operated as the enforcement arm of the Mafia from the 1930s through to the 1940s. The group had a number of prominent members, including Harry "Pittsburgh Phil" Strauss who was one of the most prolific members, committing over 100 - 500 murders. The killers were paid a regular salary as retainer as well as an average fee of $1,000 to $5,000 per killing.
In a flashback clip from 2008, check out Ja Rule talking about the old Murder Inc "supergroup" with Jay Z and DMX and why it never happened. The group recently reunited for the first time in 15 years. The three were spotted together at an event. Back in 1999, these three rappers were supposed to record an entire album together, but it never happened. Their grouping resulted in the creation of two songs including "Murdergram" from the "Streets is Watching" soundtrack and "It's Murda" from Ja Rule's "Venni Vetti Vicci." Fans never got what could have been a game-changing album. Instead, all three of these men went on to become 3 of the biggest rappers of all time. They released classic singles and albums and dominated mainstream hip-hop for almost a decade. Check out the clip above.
Chris Gotti co-founded one of the most iconic labels in hip-hop, Murder Inc, with his brother Irv, and he spoke about the start-up of the business during a recent interview with VladTV. Chris told us that he started out managing Irv, who was producing for such big names as Mariah Carey and J.Lo, and the two brother later ended up putting out a rapper by the name of Mike Geronimo. Through a clever marketing idea involving a 1-900 music video request line, Irv and Chris were able to catapult Mike Geronimo into the spotlight with little money coming from their end. While Mike G didn't become a superstar, Irv and Chris would go on to work with some of the biggest hip-hop stars of all time, including Ja Rule, DMX, and Jay Z, whom Irv used to DJ for. Chris added that while no one knew the heig...

http://www.vladtv.com - Ja Rule opened up to VladTV about Murder Inc.'s 2005 federal indictment for alleged money laundering, which they ended up beating despite the low odds. The label was accused of laundering around $1 million through Kenneth "Supreme" McGriff, which Ja Rule called ridiculous. He explained that McGriff was a longtime friend who wasn't affiliated with the label, but got help from Def Jam to start making movies. Ja Rule says that McGriff's prior convictions got the attention of the feds, who then started making accusations against Irv Gotti and Murder Inc. To hear more about the situation, hit the above clip.
http://www.vladtv.com - Long Island songstress Ashanti sat down with VladTV and shared her thoughts on the decline of Murder Inc, saying their federal indictment was perhaps the biggest catalyst in the downfall of the label. She also admits that their beef with 50 Cent and G-Unit contributed to their decline, as she and Ja Rule were the major breadwinners of the label who didn't feel it made sense to "clap back" at 50 in song, which is why Jadakiss and Fat Joe eventually became involved after collaborating with Ja.
