Diego Garcia

Diego Garcia is an atoll located south of the equator in the central Indian Ocean. Diego Garcia is the largest of the 60 small islands comprising the Chagos Archipelago. Diego Garcia was settled by the French in the 1790s and was transferred to British rule after the Napoleonic Wars. It was one of the "Dependencies" of the British Colony of Mauritius until it was detached for inclusion in the newly created British Indian Ocean Territory (BIOT) in 1965. Between 1968 and 1973, the population of the BIOT was removed to Mauritius and The Seychelles, following which the United States built a large naval and military base on Diego Garcia, which has been in continuous operation ever since. As of March 2015, Diego Garcia is the only inhabited island of the BIOT; the population is composed of military personnel and supporting contractors.

The atoll is located 3,535 km (2,197 mi) east of Tanzania's coast, 1,796 km (1,116 mi) south-southwest of the southern tip of India (at Kanyakumari) and 4,723 km (2,935 mi) west-northwest of the west coast of Australia (at Cape Range National Park, Western Australia). Diego Garcia lies at the southernmost tip of the Chagos-Laccadive Ridge, a vast submarine mountain range, top of coral reefs, atolls, and islands comprising Lakshadweep, The Maldives, and the Chagos Archipelago. Local time is UTC+6 year-round (DST is not observed).

Diego Garcia (musician)

Diego Garcia is an American musician. He was the lead singer of the band Elefant and is currently a solo artist.

Garcia was born in Detroit, Michigan to Argentine parents, raised in Tampa, Florida, and educated at Brown University. He first broke into the music world as the lead singer of the New York-based band Elefant, a group aligned with the postmodern movement. New York magazine once described him as the “Sexiest Lead Singer."

In April 2011 he released his first solo album Laura. Garcia’s band includes an Italian-born cellist and a Spanish-styled guitarist, plus a tight rhythm section. Garcia cites the young Julio Iglesias as his role model. He has taken inspiration from and has been compared to Leonard Cohen due to their florid instrumental sounds and soul-rending ballads, but most importantly the album was inspired by his girlfriend Laura. The couple is now married, with a young daughter.

On August 9, 2013, Diego's second solo album release was announced.Paradise was released October 8, 2013.

Diego García de Leon (born 2 February 1990 in Mexico City) is a Mexican taekwondo practitioner. He competed in the 58 kg event at the 2012 Summer Olympics and was eliminated in the preliminary round by Safwan Khalil.

Diego García Hernández (born 21 March 1987) is a Mexican football defender who played for Querétaro F.C. in the Primera División de México.

He played for Atlante until 2010, although he only made one Primera Division appearance for them, against Santos Laguna on 9 May 2009.

Barcelona is the capital of Anzoátegui State, Venezuela and was founded in 1671. Together with Puerto La Cruz, Lecheria and Guanta, Barcelona forms one of the most important urban areas of Venezuela with a population of approximately 950,000.

History

Unlike Puerto La Cruz, which was mostly built in the 20th century, Barcelona has a mish-mash of historical and modern architecture from its several years of growth and development. The settlement of Nueva Barcelona del Cerro Santo (English: New Barcelona of the Holy Mountain), was originally established by the Spanish conquistador Joan Orpí (a native of Piera, Catalonia in Spain). It was later re-founded and populated by governor Sancho Fernández de Angulo two kilometres from the original settlement, and by a small community of Catalan colonists around 1671. Barcelona was one of the provinces under the governmental authority of the New Andalusia Province (Nueva Andalusía, or New Andalusia), and referred to commonly as New Barcelona. One of the remaining buildings of this period is the Museo de Anzoátegui, considered the oldest building in the city.
