El Presidente de la República, Daniel Ortega Saavedra, confirmó en sus palabras centrales de celebración del 31 aniversario de la Revolución Popular Sandinista, que el Gobierno del FSLN seguirá promoviendo e impulsando cada uno de los programas sociales y de restitución de derechos que actualmente se desarrollan a favor del pueblo nicaragüense.
El comandante Daniel, ante una multitud que superaba las 500 mil personas, y se reunió desde la tarde en la Plaza La Fe, en Managua, en un acto que contó con una extraordinaria organización y el júbilo y la alegría del pueblo, brindó un detalle de los logros en materia social, económica, de infraestructura y energía que ha desarrollado el Gobierno Sandinista y llamó a aquellos que se hacen los ciegos y sordos, a que vean y oigan las buenas noticias que recibe el pueblo.
El mandatario también leyó una carta del presidente de la hermana República Bolivariana de Venezuela, comandante Hugo Chávez Frías, quien felicitó al pueblo nicaragüense por celebrar los 31 años de la lucha encabezada por el FSLN.
Señaló que al suscribirse a la Alianza Bolivariana para los Pueblos de Nuestra América, ALBA, el pueblo nicaragüense encontró el amanecer, la luz y la esperanza, luego de estar golpeado por el hambre y la pobreza, culpa de los 16 años de políticas neoliberales.
Al acto asistieron como invitados especiales el vicepresidente cubano, Ramiro Valdés y los presidentes de Osetia del Sur, Eduard Kokoiti, y de Abjasia, Serguéi Bagapsh.
El mandatario nicaragüense destacó que la conmemoración de este 31 Aniversario de la Revolución Sandinista se realiza cuando el mundo se debate entre amenazas de guerra, hambre, pobreza y crisis económica.
No obstante, reiteró que con todo ese oscuro panorama hay una realidad innegable, como son los movimientos sociales y revolucionarios en América Latina y el Caribe comprometidos con la justicia y la libertad, entre los que destaca la Alianza Bolivariana para los Pueblos de Nuestra Américas (ALBA) como fuerza impulsora de todo este proceso.
Dentro del Alba destaca el papel de los pueblos de Cuba y Venezuela, y de sus máximos líderes Fidel Castro y Hugo Chávez, quienes han sido determinantes en los cambios que ha experimentado la región.

The Sandinista National Liberation Front (Spanish: Frente Sandinista de Liberación Nacional, or FSLN) is a socialist political party in Nicaragua. Its members are called Sandinistas in both English and Spanish. The party is named after Augusto César Sandino who led the Nicaraguan resistance against the United States occupation of Nicaragua in the 1930s.
The FSLN overthrew Anastasio Somoza Debayle in 1979, ending the Somoza dynasty, and established a revolutionary government in its place. Following their seizure of power, the Sandinistas ruled Nicaragua from 1979 to 1990, first as part of a Junta of National Reconstruction. Following the resignation of centrist members from this Junta, the FSLN took exclusive power in March 1981. They instituted a policy of mass literacy, devoted significant resources to health care, and promoted gender equality. Oppositional militias, known as Contras, formed in 1981 to resist the Sandinista's Junta and received support from the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency. The 1984 elections, described by international observers as fair and free, were nevertheless boycotted by the main opposition. The FSLN won the majority of the votes. Those who did oppose the Sandinistas won approximately a third of the seats. Despite the clear electoral victory for the Sandinistas, the Contras continued their violent attacks on both state and civilian targets, until 1989. The FSLN lost elections in 1990 to Violeta Barrios de Chamorro, after revising the constitution in 1987 and after years of resisting the United States–supported Contras, but they retained a plurality of seats in the legislature.

On July 19, 1979, the Sandinista revolution removed what many considered to be one of Latin America's most brutal dictatorships. Thirty years later, and with the Sandinista leader Daniel Ortega once again in power, Al Jazeera's Lucia Newman visited Nicaragua and found that many of the revolution's promises have remained unfulfilled.

El Presidente de la República, Daniel Ortega Saavedra, confirmó en sus palabras centrales de celebración del 31 aniversario de la Revolución Popular Sandinista, que el Gobierno del FSLN seguirá promoviendo e impulsando cada uno de los programas sociales y de restitución de derechos que actualmente se desarrollan a favor del pueblo nicaragüense.
El comandante Daniel, ante una multitud que superaba las 500 mil personas, y se reunió desde la tarde en la Plaza La Fe, en Managua, en un acto que contó con una extraordinaria organización y el júbilo y la alegría del pueblo, brindó un detalle de los logros en materia social, económica, de infraestructura y energía que ha desarrollado el Gobierno Sandinista y llamó a aquellos que se hacen los ciegos y sordos, a que vean y oigan las buenas noticias que recibe el pueblo.
El mandatario también leyó una carta del presidente de la hermana República Bolivariana de Venezuela, comandante Hugo Chávez Frías, quien felicitó al pueblo nicaragüense por celebrar los 31 años de la lucha encabezada por el FSLN.
Señaló que al suscribirse a la Alianza Bolivariana para los Pueblos de Nuestra América, ALBA, el pueblo nicaragüense encontró el amanecer, la luz y la esperanza, luego de estar golpeado por el hambre y la pobreza, culpa de los 16 años de políticas neoliberales.
Al acto asistieron como invitados especiales el vicepresidente cubano, Ramiro Valdés y los presidentes de Osetia del Sur, Eduard Kokoiti, y de Abjasia, Serguéi Bagapsh.
El mandatario nicaragüense destacó que la conmemoración de este 31 Aniversario de la Revolución Sandinista se realiza cuando el mundo se debate entre amenazas de guerra, hambre, pobreza y crisis económica.
No obstante, reiteró que con todo ese oscuro panorama hay una realidad innegable, como son los movimientos sociales y revolucionarios en América Latina y el Caribe comprometidos con la justicia y la libertad, entre los que destaca la Alianza Bolivariana para los Pueblos de Nuestra Américas (ALBA) como fuerza impulsora de todo este proceso.
Dentro del Alba destaca el papel de los pueblos de Cuba y Venezuela, y de sus máximos líderes Fidel Castro y Hugo Chávez, quienes han sido determinantes en los cambios que ha experimentado la región.

It is the home of Governor Andrew Cuomo, who once growled at pro-lifers that they have “no place in the state of New York.” It is the home of comrade Mayor Bill de Blasio, who once peddled subscriptions to the newspaper of the Marxist Nicaraguan Sandinistas ...
