Lilium

Lilium (members of which are true lilies) is a genus of herbaceous flowering plants growing from bulbs, all with large prominent flowers. Lilies are a group of flowering plants which are important in culture and literature in much of the world. Most species are native to the temperate northern hemisphere, though their range extends into the northern subtropics. Many other plants have "lily" in their common name but are not related to true lilies.

Description

Lilies are tall perennials ranging in height from 2–6 ft (60–180 cm). They form naked or tunicless scaly underground bulbs which are their overwintering organs. In some North American species the base of the bulb develops into rhizomes, on which numerous small bulbs are found. Some species develop stolons. Most bulbs are deeply buried, but a few species form bulbs near the soil surface. Many species form stem-roots. With these, the bulb grows naturally at some depth in the soil, and each year the new stem puts out adventitious roots above the bulb as it emerges from the soil. These roots are in addition to the basal roots that develop at the base of the bulb.

Robin Schulz

Robin Schulz (born 28 April 1987) is a German DJ and producer. Most of his songs make use of electric guitar riffs. On 4 February, 2014, he released the first single from his debut album, a remix of "Waves" by Dutch hip hop artist Mr Probz. This remix later received a nomination for Best Remixed Recording, Non-Classical at the 57th Annual Grammy Awards. His follow-up single, released 6 June, 2014, was a remix of the Lilly Wood and the Prick track "Prayer in C" from their 2010 album Invincible Friends. Both remixes have charted in many European countries and the United States, leading to international recognition for Schulz. He co-founded Lausbuben Records with Daniel Bruns and Christopher Noble. His references in electronic music are Todd Terry, Armand Van Helden, Roger Sanchez, Tiësto and the Epic Sax Guy.

The Lilly

The Lilly is a poem written by the English poet William Blake. It was published as part of his collection Songs of Experience in 1794.

The Poem

The modest Rose puts forth a thorn,
The humble sheep a threat’ning horn:
While the Lily white shall in love delight,
Nor a thorn nor a threat stain her beauty bright.

Summary

The Rose, which is a symbol of love and beauty, puts forth a flaw or a thorn. The humble sheep also calls to attention its horn or flaw. The Lilly, however, which is pure and white, enjoys love and has no thorn or flaw to show the world.

Threefold Vision of Love

According to Antal, Blake's Flower Plate is composed of three flower poems on the same plate for a reason: to illustrate three types of love; Poetic Love, Earthly Love, and Human Love. The Lilly deals with the "Poetic Love" concept of this "threefold vision of love". This is considered the "Poetic Love" because the Lilly is innocent, and pure, and unable to be besmirched by love or by thorns. As Johsnon states, "Oddly enough, most emblem designs featuring lilies show the flower surrounded by thorns." Blake's Lilly has no thorns. Unlike the sheep or the Rose, the Lilly is the purest of them all. This echoes poetic love as ideally, love should be flawless. Love should be perfect and everything that people dream of. Even though the two lovers themselves may have flaws, love itself shouldn't have any.

Lilly Wood and the Prick

Lilly Wood and the Prick (also known as Lilly Wood and LILLYWOOD) is a French alternative rock, pop and folk duo composed of Nili Hadida and Benjamin Cotto. They are best known for their single "Prayer in C", which was remixed and released as a single in 2014 by German DJ and producer Robin Schulz; the song has topped the charts in Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Israel, Lebanon, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.

Career

2006: Formation

The duo was formed in 2006 when they met in a Parisian café and decided to collaborate on writing songs together.

2008–09: Lilly Who and the What?

After collaborating on a number of songs. In 2008 they made a cover of "L.E.S. Artistes" from Santogold. They also met guitarist Pierre Guimard who heard their songs on Myspace and offered to work with them and opened his studio for production of their work. 2008 saw release of their track on a compilation entitled Folk & Proud followed by in 2009 the EP of the duo Lilly Who and the What? referring to the stage name of the duo. It was released on Choke Industry independent label founded by Pierre Guimard and by Matthieu Tessier, the duo's manager. After 2009, they signed with another independent label called Cinq7.

David Phelps (musician)

David Norris Phelps (born October 21, 1969) is an American Christian music vocalist, songwriter and vocal arranger, who is best known for singing tenor in the Gaither Vocal Band. He has also released several solo albums, including four Christmas collections. On January 13, 2008, Phelps appeared on Extreme Makeover Home Edition for the Woodhouse family.

Biography

David Phelps was born in Texas, to Gene and Mary Ella Phelps. Gene is a former accountant/banker who currently teaches business and finance at a college in Houston. Mary Ella is a retired English Professor. He has two older sisters, Sherri Proctor (who sang backup vocals for him on tour, before dying from cancer in September 2012) and Kari Lee (a professional trumpeter who tours with the Chicago-based Millar Brass Ensemble).

Phelps grew up in Tomball, Texas near Houston and graduated from Tomball High School in 1988. He attended Baylor University, (where he directed the Baylor Religious Hour Choir) graduating in 1992 with a degree in music and vocal performance.
