Welcome to my second (of hopefully many) video blogs aimed at helping wedding cinematographers. You can watch the first VLOG here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LTgjWNSI6Og
In the future, I'm planning on covering tips, tutorials, and training all about shooting and editing wedding films to help all of us become better creators. It feels good to start with the basics though, and you can't get very much more basic than the camera itself. Wedding days are notoriously difficult to shoot, with so many varied locations, lighting conditions, and an occasional crazy aunt on the dance floor. It is incredibly important to have a camera that can handle all of these scenarios well, especially when things get rough.
In this video review, I go in-depth with the pros and cons of the camera, while keeping focused on its uses for wedding cinematography. So if you are a wedding cinematographer/videographer/friend that was randomly asked to film a wedding/Uncle Bob at the back of a church with a camera/whatever, and you want to learn more about wedding cinematography and cameras, I hope that this video and my future video blogs are helpful to you.

It has been too long since I posted one of my mini documentaries. The last one was all the way back in April. That is why it is great to be able to share one more before the year ends.
This mini documentary was part of a commission from Sony to promote their new camera, the PXW-FS5. They wanted me to make a film using their camera that would highlight many of it's features. The content of the film, this mini documentary was what I decided to make as I really wanted to tell a story rather than just shoot some pretty pictures as it would be far more engaging.
The first part of this video is a little intro about me and the camera. The interesting part is the mini documentary that starts a third of the way through featuring artist Nick Johnson. Although there are some lovely pics in the intro plus some good BTS of the actual shoot (tthanks to Julian Wakefield of Teralon who shot that, he used the Sony FS7 and A7R II)
Please read my blog post all about this for info on the concept, my pre-production, the shoot including my approach to the interview, the lighting, lenses, audio and high frame rate filming. There is also info there about the grading and why I have raised the black levels in much of my recent work. If you don't like my grading here that's fine. This is how I chose to make it look and my blog post explains why. There is no right or wrong when it comes to things like this. It is purely artistic choice.
There is something about this mini doco and Nick that really resonates with me. So much of what he said connected with me. I will hopefully one day do a longer cut without the restrictions I had to stick to.

A video review of the Sony PXW-FS5 after one year of shootings with it.

I have owned the Sony FS5 for a little over a year now. I think this camera is great because it is essentially 3 cameras in 1.
I. A super small handheld ultra light camera for getting in tight spaces and putting on gimbals.
II. A documentary/event style camera with built in NDs, good audio full HD at 10bit 4:2:2 and everything you need for shooting fast.
III. Finally the FS5 can be a great cinema camera for film, higher end commercial, and music video work. With the addition of an external recorder the FS5 is able to record raw and prores in 4K.

I used the Sony FS5 camera on a film project I did in Ecuador in January of 2016. I and Danny Ruan shot both this short film and also 2 music videos on this great little camera. I will be doing a video review of this camera as soon as I can. I have more footage I shot with this camera and I examples of what this camera is capable of capturing. Overall my thoughts are that this is a great and very affordable professional 1080p camera that records in 10bit and super slow motion up to 240fps. It also records in 4K but in that mode it's a bit more limited as it can only record in 8bit 420 color space. Still it's an overall great little camera with a lot of pro features and some new tools that no other camera offers. One such feature is the variable ND filter. It also has amazing battery life. It's small and very light (comparable to DSLR cameras).

In this video I talk about my hands on review of the Sony FS5 cinema camera. If you shoot event footage, looking for a 4k cinema camera that shoots slog 3 or even looking for a really nice slow mo camera then watch this video.
As a video editor, I come across many different codecs and file types for Final cut pro, Premiere Pro, Davinci Resolve and also Vegas. This codec is pretty good in Premiere Pro and Final Cut.
OUTSIDE NOTES NOT IN VIDEO:
- This is not a low light camera.
- Color Science is a little on the green side. Stick with canon if you enjoy the true tone saturation.
- Auto focus does not work on EF metabones adapter (not ideal for film making anyways)
- Battery Life is good with about 2 hours
- Codec is very good with 50mbs at 1080 10bit and 100mbs at 4k 8 bit
- 2 XLR inputs with 4 channel setup
- wifi enables to control from tablet or smartphone

One Year
One Year is the debut album by singer Colin Blunstone, member of the British rock band, The Zombies. It was released in 1971 (see 1971 in music). Two singles — "Caroline, Goodbye" b/w "Though You Are Far Away" followed by "Say You Don't Mind" b/w "Let Me Come Closer" — were issued with the second one reaching number 15 in the UK. One Year was reissued on CD by Sony in 2002 and by Water Records in 2007.
After the Zombies disbanded in 1968, Blunstone left the music business only to return after the surprise success of "Time of the Season". One Year was co-produced by Blunstone's former Zombie colleagues Rod Argent and Chris White who also contributed three songs to the album. "Caroline Goodbye" and "Mary Won't You Warm My Bed" were arranged by Rod Argent and Tony Visconti. John Fiddy arranged "Let Me Come Closer to You". The rest of the album was arranged by Chris Gunning.
Reception
Music critic Robin Platts of Allmusic wrote: "Widely considered to be Blunstone's best solo album, One Year is the perfect showcase for his distinctive, breathy voice. He also came into his own as a songwriter on this record."

I and Danny Ruan shot both this short film and also 2 music videos on this great little camera. I will be doing a video review of this camera as soon as I can. I have more footage I shot with this camera and I examples of what this camera is capable of capturing. Overall my thoughts are that this is a great and very affordable professional 1080p camera that records in 10bit and super slow motion up to 240fps. It also records in 4K but in that mode it's a bit more limited as it can only record in 8bit 420 color space. Still it's an overall great little camera with a lot of pro features and some new tools that no other camera offers. One such feature is the variable ND filter. It also has amazing battery life. It's small and very light (comparable to DSLR cameras). In this video I talk about my hands on review of the Sony FS5 cinema camera. If you shoot event footage, looking for a 4k cinema camera that shoots slog 3 or even looking for a really nice slow mo camera then watch this video. As a video editor, I come across many different codecs and file types for Final cut pro, Premiere Pro, Davinci Resolve and also Vegas. This codec is pretty good in Premiere Pro and Final Cut. OUTSIDE NOTES NOT IN VIDEO: - This is not a low light camera. - Color Science is a little on the green side. It has been too long since I posted one of my mini documentaries. The last one was all the way back in April. That is why it is great to be able to share one more before the year ends.
This mini documentary was part of a commission from Sony to promote their new camera, the PXW-FS5. They wanted me to make a film using their camera that would highlight many of it's features. The content of the film, this mini documentary was what I decided to make as I really wanted to tell a story rather than just shoot some pretty pictures as it would be far more engaging.
The first part of this video is a little intro about me and the camera. The interesting part is the mini documentary that starts a third of the way through featuring artist Nick Johnson. Although there are some lovely pics in the intro plus some good BTS of the actual shoot (tthanks to Julian Wakefield of Teralon who shot that, he used the Sony FS7 and A7R II)
Please read my blog post all about this for info on the concept, my pre-production, the shoot including my approach to the interview, the lighting, lenses, audio and high frame rate filming. There is also info there about the grading and why I have raised the black levels in much of my recent work. If you don't like my grading here that's fine. This is how I chose to make it look and my blog post explains why. There is no right or wrong when it comes to things like this. It is purely artistic choice.
There is something about this mini doco and Nick that really resonates with me. So much of what he said connected with me. I will hopefully one day do a longer cut without the restrictions I had to stick to.

I used the Sony FS5 camera on a film project I did in Ecuador in January of 2016. I and Danny Ruan shot both this short film and also 2 music videos on this great little camera. I will be doing a video review of this camera as soon as I can. I have more footage I shot with this camera and I examples of what this camera is capable of capturing. Overall my thoughts are that this is a great and very affordable professional 1080p camera that records in 10bit and super slow motion up to 240fps. It also records in 4K but in that mode it's a bit more limited as it can only record in 8bit 420 color space. Still it's an overall great little camera with a lot of pro features and some new tools that no other camera offers. One such feature is the variable ND filter. It also has amazing battery life. It's small and very light (comparable to DSLR cameras).

In this video I talk about my hands on review of the Sony FS5 cinema camera. If you shoot event footage, looking for a 4k cinema camera that shoots slog 3 or even looking for a really nice slow mo camera then watch this video.
As a video editor, I come across many different codecs and file types for Final cut pro, Premiere Pro, Davinci Resolve and also Vegas. This codec is pretty good in Premiere Pro and Final Cut.
OUTSIDE NOTES NOT IN VIDEO:
- This is not a low light camera.
- Color Science is a little on the green side. Stick with canon if you enjoy the true tone saturation.
- Auto focus does not work on EF metabones adapter (not ideal for film making anyways)
- Battery Life is good with about 2 hours
- Codec is very good with 50mbs at 1080 10bit and 100mbs at 4k 8 bit
- 2 XLR inputs with 4 channel setup
- wifi enables to control from tablet or smartphone

The city of Yogyakarta (simply called Jogja) is known as Neverending Asia for its endless attractions and appeal. It is renowned as a center of education (Kota Pelajar), classical Javanese fine art and culture such as batik, ballet, drama, music, poetry, and puppet shows. Yogyakarta was the Indonesian capital during the Indonesian National Revolution from 1945 to 1949.
A unique combination of ancient temples within its proximity, such as the world famous Borobudur and Prambanan temples, its history, traditions, unique Javanese culture and natural forces make Yogyakarta a very worthwhile place to visit in Indonesia.

1. YOGYA means «suitable, fit, proper», and KARTA, «prosperous, flourishing» (i.e., «a city that is fit to prosper»).
2. Candi Prambanan (temple) or also known as Candi Rara Jonggrang, is a well known ancient Hindu Temple in Indonesia. It is built during the 9th century for Trimurti as an expression that God is the Creator (Brahma), Preserver (Vishnu) and also the Destroyer (Shiva). It is one of the Indonesia UNESCO World Heritage Site, being one of the largest Hindu temple architecture in Southeast Asia.
3. 9th-century Borobudur temple is an Indonesia UNESCO Heritage site and one of the largest Buddhist temple in the world. It was built in three tiers: a pyramidal base with five concentric square terraces. Around the circular platforms are 72 openwork stupas, each containing a statue of the Buddha.
4. Yogyakarta is the only major city, which still has traditional 'Becak' (rickshaw-style) transport.
5. Yogyakarta has more than just culture though. It is a very lively city and a shopper's delight. The main road, Malioboro Street, is always crowded and famous for its night street food-culture and street vendors. Many tourist shops and hotels are concentrated along this street.
