An egret /ˈiːɡrət/ is a bird that is any of several herons, most of which are white or buff, and several of which develop fine plumes (usually milky white) during the breeding season.
Many egrets are members of the genera Egretta or Ardea which also contain other species named as herons rather than egrets. The distinction between a heron and an egret is rather vague, and depends more on appearance than biology. The word "egret" comes from the French word "aigrette" that means both "silver heron" and "brush", referring to the long filamentous feathers that seem to cascade down an egret's back during the breeding season.
Several of the egrets have been reclassified from one genus to another in recent years: the great egret, for example, has been classified as a member of either Casmerodius, Egretta or Ardea.
In the 19th and early part of the 20th century, some of the world's egret species were endangered by relentless plume hunting, since hat makers in Europe and the United States demanded large numbers of egret plumes, leading to breeding birds being killed in many places around the world.
The great egret (Ardea alba), also known as the common egret, large egret or (in the Old World) great white heron, is a large, widely distributed egret. Distributed across most of the tropical and warmer temperate regions of the world, in southern Europe it is rather localized. In North America it is more widely distributed, and it is ubiquitous across the Sun Belt of the United States and in the Neotropics. The Old World population is often referred to as the great white egret. This species is sometimes confused with the great white heron of the Caribbean, which is a white morph of the closely related great blue heron (A. herodias).
The great egret is a large heron with all-white plumage. Standing up to 1 m (3.3 ft) tall, this species can measure 80 to 104 cm (31 to 41 in) in length and have a wingspan of 131 to 170 cm (52 to 67 in). Body mass can range from 700 to 1,500 g (1.5 to 3.3 lb), with an average of around 1,000 g (2.2 lb). It is thus only slightly smaller than the great blue or grey heron (A. cinerea). Apart from size, the great egret can be distinguished from other white egrets by its yellow bill and black legs and feet, though the bill may become darker and the lower legs lighter in the breeding season. In breeding plumage, delicate ornamental feathers are borne on the back. Males and females are identical in appearance; juveniles look like non-breeding adults. Differentiated from the intermediate egret (Mesophoyx intermedius) by the gape, which extends well beyond the back of the eye in case of the great egret, but ends just behind the eye in case of the intermediate egret.
Great White is an American hard rock band, formed in Los Angeles in 1977. The band gained popularity during the 1980s and early 1990s. The band released several albums in the late 1980s and gained airplay on MTV with music videos for songs like "Once Bitten, Twice Shy". The band reached their peak popularity with the album ...Twice Shy in 1989.
The band continued to release new material into the 1990s, although none of their material charted in the United States. In 2003, the band made headlines when The Station nightclub fire led to the deaths of 100 people in West Warwick, Rhode Island, including the band's guitarist Ty Longley, who had been a member of Jack Russell's solo band. In 2011 the band split, with Jack Russell forming "Great White Featuring Jack Russell" and lead singer Terry Ilous (of XYZ) fronting Great White. As of August 2007, Great White sold over 8 million records worldwide.
25 years ago the sighting of any White Heron in the UK would have been greeted with excitement. While Little Egret is now relatively common, it can sometimes be confused at distance with a much rarer visitor - Great White Egret. This video also helps separate GW Egret from 'white' or leucistic Grey Herons.

Great egret swallows tilapia and it puts up a great fight in his throat. The footage in the beginning is a little out of focus as I was off balance when it happened. It improves when you see the fish moving in his throat. After a sip of water and a couple of head shakes, the fish finally moves down it's throat. The Great Egret is a fairly uncommon and localised resident, nomadic in response to water levels. He eats mainly fish and also frogs, insects and reptiles. Nests above water in trees or in reedbeds. http://www.earth-touch.com The black egret (or heron) must be one of nature's most creative hunters. Watch as it displays its clever "umbrella" hunting tactic while it stalks fish in the shallows of Botswana's Okavango Delta.
Virgin
I haven't always stuck by you
Even though you've been with me
And I've done things I wish you hadn't seen
And I have seen things I wish you'd didn't know
But because you fogive I forgive myself and let go
Jesus give me a virgin mind and a virgin soul
Make my heart so set on you that it can't let go
Take all the things I've seen wash me with your purity
Take all the things I've done cover me with your blood
I haven't always stuck by you
Even though you were with me
But now as I see you on the cross of Calvary
Can't bring myself to hurt you more
So now all that I'll do is only what you'd have me do
It's all for you
Jesus give me a virgin mind and a virgin soul
Make my heart so set on you that it can't let go
Take all the things I've seen wash me with your purity
Take all the things I've done cover me with your blood
I cry out to you and I repent
I cry with you and I repent
I cry out to you and I repent
I cry with you and I repent
Transform these bitter tears with your mercy
Jesus give me a virgin mind and a virgin soul
Make my heart so set on you that it can't let go
Take all the things I've seen wash me with your purity
Take all the things I've done cover me with your blood
Cover me with your blood
Cover me with your blood
Cover me with your blood
