Avenging Amanda Terkel -- Turning the Tables on FOX

About 3 months ago, ThinkProgress's Amanda Terkel posted, "I Was Followed, Harassed, And Ambushed By Bill O’Reilly’s Producer" -- detailing an incident that led to this video on FOX.

Today, FOX was up to their little tricks again -- setting up a red carpet outside an ACORN event and ambushing community organizers as they walked in.

Stephanie Taylor and I figured it was time to avenge Amanda Terkel....

Send Griff Jenkins your thoughts: Griff.Jenkins@foxnews.com

UPDATE: Causing a stir! Video posted at Gawker, AmericaBlog, I put it on Daily Kos, where else? I'll post other updates on Twitter.

AdamGreen :: Avenging Amanda Terkel -- Turning the Tables on FOX

More on John Moody, from FoxAttacks.com:

Fox executive John Moody sends internal memos each morning, dictating what Republican talking points should be reported on air. Some examples:

  • After Democratic victory in 2006: “Be on the lookout for any statements from the Iraqi insurgents...thrilled at the prospect of a Dem controlled Congress” (11/9/06) Fox reporter Martha MacCallum then claimed on-air that terrorists were dancing in the streets over Democratic congressional victory, with no proof. (11/9/06)
  • On George W. Bush, during start of 2004 election: "His political courage and tactical cunning are worth noting in our reporting through the day." (6/3/03)
  • On US troops dying in Iraq: “Do not fall into the easy trap of mourning the loss of US lives and asking out loud why are we there? The US is in Iraq to help a country brutalized for 30 years protect the gains made by Operation Iraqi Freedom and set it on the path to democracy.” (4/6/04). Fox anchor Brit Hume then commented on-air about 2000 American deaths in Iraq: “By historic standards, these casualties are negligible.” (Link)
  • On Bush judicial nominees: “Let's spend a good deal of time on the battle over judicial nominations, which the President will address this morning. Nominees who both sides admit are qualified are being held up because of their POSSIBLE, not demonstrated, views on one issue -- abortion. This should be a trademark issue for FNC today and in the days to come.” (5/9/03).
  • On the 9-11 Commission: “The so-called 9/11 commission has already been meeting… this is not ‘what did he know and when did he know it’ stuff. Do not turn this into Watergate. Remember the fleeting sense of national unity that emerged from this tragedy. Let's not desecrate that.” (3/23/04).
  • On Bush tax cuts: “The tax cut passed last night by the Senate, though less than half what Bush originally proposed, contains some important victories for the administration. The DC crew will parse the bill and explain how it will fatten -- marginally -- your wallet.” (5/22/03)
  •  “Larry Johnson, a former part-time Fox commentator…[said] Moody missives were ‘talking points instructing us what the themes are supposed to be, and God help you if you stray.’” (Washington Post, 7/11/04)

Awesome -- let's start a tradition (4.00 / 7)
I think this should become a liberal blogging tradition.  Anytime anyone sees a FOX news crew, ambush them for an interview.  Even if all you have is a camera in your cell phone, do it.  Even if your only claim to being a blogger is you write comments on dKos, do it.

I'd like to see this repeated over and over and over again.

Absolutely! (4.00 / 2)
This is a strategy that conceivably could get them to stop their ambushes altogether.

Doing it once is annoying.  Doing it over and over again, everywhere they go is completely debilitating.

Well done. (4.00 / 1)
More please.

Here's an idea for FoxAttacks.org: (4.00 / 3)
Have an essay contest for 10 years olds, where the pre-requisite (besides verifiable age) for entering is to have watched Outfoxed. The title of the essays are "Is Fox a dishonest, propaganda mill? And if so, why do grown-ups fall for it?". The winner of the contest gets $10,000 and a free trip for the entire family to Disneyland.

If you have a budget for it, you can fly in the 5 finalists for a quiz show, where you juxtapose real world facts with Fox fantasies, and see who can separate fact from fiction the best. This would also have an additional $10,000 prize, plus a trip for the whole family to Universal Studios.

I predict the video would go viral on youtube....

impressive work (4.00 / 2)
this was most effective. Adam was very quick on his feet.  congrats.

The Bow-Tie (4.00 / 1)
Is that standard issue at Fox? And the glasses? I imagine them all running around like that when they're off-screen...sure that wasn't George Will's kid?

i think its time (4.00 / 2)
to fight fire with fire, the right likes confrontation well the opposition should give them the same and as you can see time and again they do not like to be the target of their own methods, lets get it on liberal america this is our nation also.

Dissent - I think that the Fox reporter won the exchange going away (0.00 / 0)
This was Adam's attempt at a piece, not an interference with the Fox reporter's piece.

The Fox Reporter had a single theme, that Adam had been let into a meeting of (or about?) ACORN and Fox was excluded.  He kept repeating that theme no matter what Adam was trying to read to him.

From the information that the Fox reporter gave, it looked as though he was in the right, and the sponsors of the meeting and Adam were in the wrong.

I do not understand the effusive compliments in the comments.

Disagree (0.00 / 0)
ACORN is a private organization.  They are free to choose whom they want to attend their meetings.  The Fox reporter certainly has the right to talk about ACORN, but he does not have the right to demand unlimited access to the organization.

True, the reporter stuck to his theme, but his theme was wrong.  As usual.
