Sexten (Italian: Sesto) is a comune in South Tyrol, in the Trentino-Alto Adige/Südtirol region of north-east Italy. The town is famous as a summer and winter sport resort and the mountains.
The town sits in a branch of the Puster Valley, near Innichen and Toblach, where the Drava rises. The district borders East Tyrol, Austria to the north and the border is formed by the Carinthian Alps. To the south lie the eponymous Sextener Dolomites and nature park, which includes the famous Drei Zinnen (Tre Cime di Lavaredo).
The commune is bordered, clockwise from the west, by Toblach, Innichen, Sillian (Austria), Kartitsch (Austria), Comelico Superiore (Belluno) and Auronzo di Cadore, (Belluno).
The emblem is azure and represents three argent peaks with a sable chamois standing in the centre; the three peaks symbolize the Tre Cime di Lavaredo. The emblem was granted in 1972 but was in use before the first World War.
According to the 2001 ( census, 96.6% of the population speak German, 3.2% Italian and 0.2% Ladin as first language.

The day the Shmee150 Facebook page reached a giant 20,000 fans (http://www.facebook.com/shmee150) just so happened to coincide with the arrival of a rather special car in London, the Lamborghini Sesto Elemento. The Sesto Elemento (or 6th Element) was introduced at the 2010 Paris Motorshow as a track going weapon weighing in at just 999kg. It's thought that a total of 20 could be built with a price tag in the €2 million region. The car arrived here where it will be on show in the Lamborghini London dealership in South Kensington, London however it's behind closed doors to the public so it was fantastic to not only see the car again in person but at home. The day the Shmee150 Facebook page reached a giant 20,000 fans (http://www.facebook.com/shmee150) just so happened to coincide with the arrival of a rather special car in London, the Lamborghini Sesto Elemento.
The Sesto Elemento (or 6th Element) was introduced at the 2010 Paris Motorshow as a track going weapon weighing in at just 999kg. It's thought that a total of 20 could be built with a price tag in the €2 million region.
The car arrived here where it will be on show in the Lamborghini London dealership in South Kensington, London however it's behind closed doors to the public so it was fantastic to not only see the car again in person but at home.
A lot of questions have been asked as to why the car is not started, the explanation is that it had just arrived at London Heathrow from Saudi Arabia. The day the Shmee150 Facebook page reached a giant 20,000 fans (http://www.facebook.com/shmee150) just so happened to coincide with the arrival of a rather special car in London, the Lamborghini Sesto Elemento.
The Sesto Elemento (or 6th Element) was introduced at the 2010 Paris Motorshow as a track going weapon weighing in at just 999kg. It's thought that a total of 20 could be built with a price tag in the €2 million region.
The car arrived here where it will be on show in the Lamborghini London dealership in South Kensington, London however it's behind closed doors to the public so it was fantastic to not only see the car again in person but at home.
A lot of questions have been asked as to why the car is not started, the explanation is that it had just arrived at London Heathrow from Saudi Arabia. Sexten Dolomites Travel - The Tre Cime di Lavaredo also called the Drei Zinnen (German, literally three merlons), are three distinctive battlement-like peaks, in the Sexten Dolomites of northeastern Italy. They are probably one of the best-known mountain groups in the Alps. The three peaks, from east to west, are:
Cima Piccola/Kleine Zinne (little peak)
Cima Grande/Große Zinne (big peak)
Cima Ovest/Westliche Zinne (western peak).
The peaks are composed of well-layered dolostones of the Dolomia Principale (Hauptdolomit) formation, Carnian to Rhaetian in age, as are many other groups in the Dolomites (e.g., the Tofane, the Pelmo or the Cinque Torri).
Until 1919 the peaks formed part of the border between Italy and Austria. As of 2006, it had a population of 3,136.[1] According to the 2001 census, 84.84% of the population spoke German, 14.78% Italian and 0.38% Ladin as first language.[2]
San Candido borders the municipalities of Toblach, Innervillgraten (Austria), Sexten, and Sillian (Austria).
It is home to the Innichen Abbey, founded here in the late 8th century and which belonged to the Archbishopric of Freising. The abbey itself was disestablished in 1785, while the surrounding estates were acquired by the County of Tyrol after the Mediatisation of 1803 (Reichsdeputationshauptschluss). According to the Treaty of Saint-Germain terms, Innichen became part of Kingdom of Italy in 1919. Innichen is still the site of a Franciscan monastery founded in 1691.

Finally, we went hiking close to the famous Drei Zinnen (Tre Cime di Lavaredo or Three Peaks), which are among the most famous mountain peaks in the Dolomites. On the way back to our home base in St. Oswald I stopped in Sillian and visited the historic cemetery.

February 22, 2012 was another absolutely breathtaking day and my friend Andrea and I headed out on an excursion into the Italian Dolomites. Our first stop was in the town of Innichen (San Candido) where we stopped to admire two historic churches and purchase some local delicatessen. Then we continued on to the gorgeous Toblacher See (Lake Dobiacco) before heading to Lake Misurina (Misurinasee) where we even saw some winter polo. Finally, we went hiking close to the famous Drei Zinnen (Tre Cime di Lavaredo or Three Peaks), which are among the most famous mountain peaks in the Dolomites. On the way back to our home base in St. Oswald I stopped in Sillian and visited the historic cemetery.
