By Night is an extreme metal act from Falkenberg in Sweden, formed by André Gonzales (guitar), Simon Wien (guitar), and Per Qvarnström (drums) in 1999. In 2002, Christoffer Andersson left and was replaced by Adrian Westin, singer of the band Aggressive Serpent (now called Trendkill). Christina María Aguilera (born December 18, 1980) is an American singer-songwriter and actress. In the early 1990s, she appeared on television series Star Search and The Mickey Mouse Club. In 1998, Aguilera signed with RCA Records and recorded her self-titled debut album, which was released in 1999. The album was a commercial success in the United States, spawning three U.S. Billboard Hot 100 number-one singles—"Genie in a Bottle", "What a Girl Wants", and "Come On Over Baby (All I Want Is You)", and helped Aguilera win the Grammy Award for Best New Artist. In 2000, RCA released Aguilera's Spanish-language album Mi Reflejo and holiday-theme album My Kind of Christmas. Her 2002 fourth studio album, Stripped, ventured into various genres including hip hop, Latin, and rock, and won a Grammy Award for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance for its second single "Beautiful".
Aguilera's 2006 fifth studio album, Back to Basics, was inspired by blues, soul, and jazz music of the 1920s-40s. The album peaked at number one on record charts of thirteen countries and won a Grammy Award for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance for its first single "Ain't No Other Man". In 2010, RCA released Aguilera's electronic-influenced album, Bionic, which failed to match the success of her previous albums; later that year, she starred in the film Burlesque. The following year, Aguilera was featured on Maroon 5's top-ten single "Moves like Jagger" and became an original coach on the U.S. television series The Voice, having since appeared on five of its nine seasons. Her 2012 seventh studio album, Lotus, became the lowest-selling album of her career. However, she later experienced rehabilitated commercial success in 2013, being featured on the top-ten singles "Feel This Moment" and "Say Something", which won a Grammy Award for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance.

Live by Night is a crime novel by Dennis Lehane that was published in 2012. It won a 2013 Edgar Award for novel of the year.
By 1926, Prohibition in the United States had given rise to an endless network of underground distilleries, speakeasies, gangsters, and corrupt cops. Joe Coughlin, the youngest son of a prominent Boston police captain, defies his proper upbringing by climbing a ladder of organized crime that takes him from Boston to Ybor City, Florida, to Havana, Cuba, where he encounters a dangerous cast of characters who are all fighting for their piece of the American dream.
When the novel begins, Joe is in the employ of one of Boston's most powerful mobsters, Tim Hickey. Joe and two friends knock off a gambling room located behind a speakeasy. Unbeknownst to them, the speakeasy belonged to Albert White, their boss's biggest rival. Emma Gould, a server in the room and White's mistress, catches Joe's attention. They begin an affair.
Coughlin is later sent to Charlestown Penitentiary after a bank robbery goes awry. On the night of his arrest, the car Emma is travelling in crashes into a river and she is presumed dead. Joe comes under the protection of Italian mobster Maso Pescatore while in prison. While Joe and his police captain father had a complicated relationship, Thomas agrees to do Pescatore's bidding to keep Joe safe in prison. The stress of these dealings give Thomas a fatal heart attack.

You live by night
And waste the day
You give yourself
You give yourself away
I know that when you started
You liked the way you felt
And yes I understand you
But to everybody else...
It's black and white
To you it's grey
You know I'll love you anyway
But it seems to me you're living on the run
But I hope you know you're not the only one
Who lives by night
Lives by night
They're only trying to chase away the sun
And when you play
The way you do
The sun don't shine
The same way for you
And you say you don't abuse it
But baby I can tell
We both know what the truth is
But to everybody else...
It's black and white
It's night and day
You know I'll love you anyway
But it seems to me you're living on the run
And now you know you're not the only one...
Who lives by night
Lives by night
We're only trying to chase away the sun
We, we were so intimate
You, you were so into it
But they, they pulled you in
And now that they're gone
We're only trying to work out what went wrong
You live by night
Live by night
