Plot: A highly styled 'genre' film which can perhaps be seen as a pastiche of all gangster movies. Tom Reagan is the laconic anti-hero of this amoral tale which is also, paradoxically, a look at morals within the criminal underworld of the 1930s. Two rival gangs vie for control of a city where the police are pawns, and the periodic busts of illicit drinking establishments are no more than a way for one gang to get back at the other. Black humour and shocking violence compete for screen time as we question whether or not Tom, right-hand man of the Irish mob leader, really has a heart.
Keywords: 1920s, animal, bartender, based-on-novel, beating, bed, betrayal, black-comedy, blackmail, blurred-boundaries
Genres:

Taglines: What's the rumpus? You can dangle. Up is down, black is white, and nothing is what it seems. Nothing is what it seems at Miller's Crossing
Quotes:
Verna: Leo's got the right idea. I like him, he's honest and he's got a heart.::Tom Reagan: Then it's true what they say. Opposites attract.
Johnny Caspar: When you're right you're right, but you never say 'I told you so'.::Tom Reagan: So what am I right about?::Johnny Caspar: Well, I'll tell ya, but first you gotta promise not to say 'I told you so'.::Tom Reagan: I don't say that and I don't like people who do.::Johnny Caspar: Mink was robbin' me right along with the shmatte.::Tom Reagan: What convinced you of that?::Johnny Caspar: Mink Larouie took a powder. We can't find him. Bluepoint's makin' excuses for him, but personally, I think you were right. I think Mink and Bernie was in it together. I think Mink heard you'd bumped the shmatte, and lit out. The lousy sonofabitch.::Tom Reagan: I told you so.::Johnny Caspar: Hahahaha! You got a lip on you!
Tom Reagan: Think about what protecting Bernie gets us. Think about what offending Caspar loses us.::Leo O'Bannion: Oh, come on, Tommy. You know I don't like to think.::Tom Reagan: Yeah. Well, think about whether you should start.
Verna: What're you chewin' over?::Tom Reagan: Dream I had once. I was walkin' in the woods, I don't know why. Wind came up and blew me hat off.::Verna: And you chased it, right? You ran and ran, finally caught up to it and you picked it up. But it wasn't a hat anymore and it changed into something else, something wonderful.::Tom Reagan: Nah, it stayed a hat and no, I didn't chase it. Nothing more foolish than a man chasin' his hat.
Leo O'Bannion: You hear about Rug?::Tom Reagan: Yeah, RIP.::Leo O'Bannion: They took his hair, Tommy. Jesus, that's strange, why would they do that?::Tom Reagan: Maybe it was injuns.
Tom Reagan: Tell Leo he's not God on the throne, he's just a cheap political boss with more hair tonic than brains.
Tom Reagan: So what's the deal, you get to live and Verna has to be Leo's girl?::Bernie: I have nothing to do with that, she'll sleep with anyone Tom, you know that! She even tried to teach me a thing or two about bed antics once. Some crackpot idea about saving me from my friends. She's a sick twist all right.::Tom Reagan: She speaks highly of you.::Bernie: Yeah, well, you stick by your family.
Tom Reagan: I am awake.::Tad: Your eyes are shut.::Tom Reagan: Who you gonna believe?
Tom Reagan: All in all not a bad guy - if looks, brains and personality don't count.::Verna: You better hope they don't.
Eddie Dane: Where's Leo?::Hitman at Verna's: If I tell you, how do I know you won't kill me?::Eddie Dane: Because if you told me and I killed you and you were lying I wouldn't get to kill you *then*. Where's Leo?::Hitman at Verna's: He's moving around. He's getting his mob together tomorrow night. Whisky Nick's.::Eddie Dane: You sure?::Hitman at Verna's: Check it. It's gold.::Eddie Dane: You know what, yegg? I believe you.::[Shoots him]

This video was filmed on
December 20th 2014, which was my birthday. We were helping a guy reduce the rat population in his chicken coop. He didn't want to use any poisons, and other pest control methods he had attempted were not even putting a dent in the population. So it was our mink and dogs to the rescue!

Raising Rio Part 8: A Baby Mink's First Hunt!
This is Rio the mink's first hunt at 14.5 weeks old. The kangaroo rat numbers are VERY HIGH out in the desert, most likely due to their main predator the coyote being over hunted thanks to a $50 bounty placed on its head in my state. Now that there are less coyotes to eat them, the kangaroo rats, as well as other small rodents and rabbits are at an all time high. What a perfect time to be training a baby mink!

My pet mink Moⁿchushage is just learning to catch fish. In this video I'm training Moⁿchu how to catch fish in the wild, and this is only his second fishing trip. He was born and raised in a mink farm, so he has no experience hunting or fishing. I bought him from a fur farmer on
January 1st, and over the last few months I have tamed him, taught him to come when I call, and taught him to catch fish in a large tank at my house. Now he needs to learn how to catch fish in the wild. The fish he catches in this video is actually the same fish he caught the day before. Rat Roundup! My trained mink cleaning up the park.
My trained hunting mink helping me control the muskrat and brown rat population at the city park. The city was going to pay SOME ONE to kill them, and I'd MUCH rather it was me than someone else! I get the job done without any dangerous chemicals or traps, and the animals we catch go to feeding my mink, instead of going to waist :-) Poisons (what any other pest control guy would have used) would have left the rats writhing in pain for HOURS sometimes even
DAYS before they finally died from internal bleeding. Not only that, but poison would likely kill many other animals, not just the rats. My mink kill the rats in less than a minute, and is MUCH more humane than the alternative!

Upon hearing the word "farm," most people imagine an picturesque scene: green hills, red barns, contented animals lazing in the sun.
But life (and death) on a fur "farm" is anything but idyllic for the foxes, mink, and other animals imprisoned there. Also disingenuously referred to as fur "ranches," these facilities are more akin to industrializ...

Once again, the Pink Panther appears to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. The place is the jungle with "Tarzan" in the clutches of a very domineering and strong willed "Jane." Jane is fashion conscious and this year is pink - which means the
Panther may be this year's dress. In order to capture the Panther, Tarzan initiates several plans of action such as traps, scare tactics, surprise attacks and camouflage pits. All are unsuccessful and frustrating to Tarzan. The clever Panther escapes, and leaves Tarzan to contend with Jane.

Here's the Rest of Your Mink Coat | A PETA Exposé
All around the world, at fur farms like this one, minks—as well as rabbits, foxes, and other animals—are crammed into barren cages and have the skin ripped off their bodies, all to make fur coats, collars, and trinkets. Fur farmers use the cheapest killing methods available—all of them cruel—including suffocation, electrocution, poison, or gas (as you see at this farm).
Animals killed for their fur don't always die immediately, and many suffer intensely as they struggle to survive.
The fur industry would have you believe that fashion justifies such torture, but there is never any excuse for such barbaric treatment of animals.
Do you have friends or family members who still think that fur or other animal skins are fashionable? Remind them that in some countries, even cats and dogs are sk

The problem is there aren't very many fish here, so when Moⁿchushage caught a fish and didn'
t completely kill it, I quickly traded him for some meat, and slipped it back in the water so we could come back and catch it a second time, building Moⁿchu's confidence and skill in this small little fishing
hole, before we move on to more challenging fishing spots.

This little fishing spot is a PERFECT place to start Moⁿchu out on fish because the water is really shallow, and the fish can't escape up or down stream because the water levels are too low, making them stuck in this little section of stream.

Mink are very good at subduing dangerous prey while avoiding being bitten. My mink That'e' dispatched this squirrel without receiving so much as one noticeable scratch.
Normally mink can dispatch their prey very quickly, but this rock squirrel put up quite a fight and took much longer than usual. Just two weeks before this hunt, my mink That'e' killed a similarly sized squirrel in a matter of seconds!

This mink came from a fur farm where he was destined to become part of someone's wardrobe. What this mink's life would have been like
...
Upon hearing the word "farm," most people imagine an picturesque scene: green hills, red barns, contented animals lazing in the sun.
But life (and death) on a fur "farm" is anything but idyllic for the foxes, mink, and other animals imprisoned there. Also disingenuously referred to as fur "ranches," these facilities are more akin to industrialized torture camps.
On
U.S. fur farms, one of the most frequently used methods of killing animals is electrocution: the "farmer" puts a metal clamp in an animal's mouth, a metal rod in the anus, and sends a high-voltage current surging through the body.
Sometimes the power surge forces the rod out of the anus, so the procedure must be repeated to kill the animal. Other commonly-employed techniques include homemade gas chambers, such as a box hooked up to a tractor exhaust pipe; lethal injection of various chemicals that kill through paralysis, which can result in immobilized animals being skinned alive; and neck breaking.
To cut costs, fur farmers pack animals into small cages, preventing them from taking more than a few steps back and forth. This crowding and confinement is especially distressing to minks—solitary animals. The anguish and frustration of life in a cage leads minks to self-mutilate—biting at their skin, tails, and feet—and frantically pace and circle endlessly and may result in cannibalism to escape the other minks.

The clever Panther escapes, and leaves Tarzan to contend with Jane.

...
Remind them that in some countries, even cats and dogs are skinned—sometimes while still alive—for their fur, which is often mislabeled, exported, and sold to unsuspecting consumers.
