Aleksandr Isayevich Solzhenitsyn (/ˌsoʊlʒəˈniːtsɪn, ˌsɔːl-/;Russian: Алекса́ндр Иса́евич Солжени́цын, pronounced [ɐlʲɪˈksandr ɪˈsaɪvʲɪtɕ səlʐɨˈnʲitsɨn]; 11 December 1918 – 3 August 2008) (often Romanized to Alexandr or Alexander) was a Russian novelist, historian, and short story writer. He was an outspoken critic of the Soviet Union and its totalitarianism and helped to raise global awareness of its Gulag forced labor camp system. He was allowed to publish only one work in the Soviet Union, One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich (1962), in the periodical Novij Mir. After this he had to publish in the West, most notably Cancer Ward (1968), August 1914 (1971), and The Gulag Archipelago (1973). Solzhenitsyn was awarded the 1970 Nobel Prize in Literature "for the ethical force with which he has pursued the indispensable traditions of Russian literature". Solzhenitsyn was afraid to go to Stockholm to receive his award for fear that he wouldn't be allowed to reenter. He was eventually expelled from the Soviet Union in 1974, but returned to Russia in 1994 after the dissolution of the Soviet Union.

The look on Solzhenitsyn's face when he sees Vladimir Putin says it all. Neither are communists, both are conservative and love Russia. See the main video from RTD "In the circle of fate" http://rtd.rt.com/films/solzhenitsyn-soviet-dissident-nobel/ ' “The entire 20th century is being sucked into the vortex of atheism and self-destruction…We can only reach with determination for the warm hand of God . .. The Nobel Prize in Literature 1970 was awarded to Alexandr Solzhenitsyn "for the ethical force with which he has pursued the indispensable traditions of Russian literature". Solzhenitsyn makes the astonishing claim that 66 million Russians, mostly Christian, were "Genocided" at the hands of the ruthless radicals who organized the Bolshevik Revolution. A cursory review of the objective facts behind Bolshevik Revolution will reveal it to be a largely Zionist movement engineered and implemented by radical Jewish Zionists funded by the Jewish International Banker, Jacob Schiff, out of NYC. The son of dissident novelist Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn has been speaking exclusively to RT on the 90th anniversary of his fathers birth. Yermolay Solzhenitsyn says the family survived exile in the US by clinging to the belief that they could do something useful for Russia.

"In the beginning of Solzhenitsyn's Gulag Archipelago, a story is told where an expedition at the Kolyma River discovers a fish that has been perfectly preserved in the ice lens for thousands of years. The peasants broke open the ice and devoured the fish on the spot. In "Dialogues" Russian filmmaker Alexander Sokurov dutifully preserves Solzhenitsyn on film for generations to come. A slight diffused focused image runs throughout the four part documentary, and many moments (some more magical than others) keep the camera rolling, framed on the author just relaxing, contemplating, and in repose for minutes. It's almost as if Sokurov is in a state of wonder, basking in the notion that here is a Russian great, still alive, and we, in our great fortune, are able to...
Evil legally has many freedoms that have allowed it to grow in America as observed by Alexander Solzhenitsyn. The historical warnings that have manifested themselves over the last 40 years. "The corrosion of evil" he saw in the 70's has only worsened. http://russianfaith.wordpress.com/
One of the most important Russian writers of the twentieth century, Solzhenitsyn gained worldwide renown for his novels on Soviet labour camps. In 1970 he was offered the Nobel Prize for Literature. Violence can only be concealed by a lie, and the lie can only be maintained by violence. It is time in the West to defend not so much human rights as human obligations. Own only what you can always carry with you: know languages, know countries, know people. Let your memory be your travel bag. For a country to have a great writer is like having a second government. That is why no regime has ever loved great writers, only minor ones. Of course God is endlessly multi-dimensional so every religion that exists on earth represents some face, some side of God. Not everything has a name. Some things lead us into a realm beyond words.
The battleline between good and evil runs through the heart of every man. It is time in the West to defend not so much human rights as human obligations. There are a lot of clear thinkers everywhere. For us in Russia, communism is a dead dog, while, for many people in the West, it is still a living lion. The name of 'reform' simply covers what is latently a process of the theft of the national heritage. Not everything has a name. Some things lead us into a realm beyond words.
It is time in the West to defend not so much human rights as human obligations. It is the artist who realizes that there is a supreme force above him and works gladly away as a small apprentice under God's heaven. For a country to have a great writer is like having a second government. That is why no regime has ever loved great writers, only minor ones. Of course God is endlessly multi-dimensional so every religion that exists on earth represents some face, some side of God. Solzhenitsyn It is a question if any work of literature in our era other than 'the Divine Comedy is commensurate with The Gulag Archipelago in structure, scale, multiplicity of incident and characters, emotional range, variety of inflection and, above all, in the staggering magnitude of its underlying concept. In this masterpiece, the author of One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich and The First Circle has orchestrated thousands of incidents and individual histories into one narrative of unflagging power and momentum. Written in a tone that encompasses Olympian wrath, bitter calm, savage irony and sheer comedy, it c...
