Uganda is a presidential republic, in which the President of Uganda is both head of state and head of government; there is a multi-party system. Executive power is exercised by the government. Legislative power is vested in both the government and the National Assembly. The system is based on a democratic parliamentary system with universal suffrage for all citizens over 18 of years age. In a measure ostensibly designed to reduce sectarian violence, political parties were restricted in their activities from 1986. In the non-party "Movement" system instituted by the current president Yoweri Museveni, political parties continued to exist but could not campaign in elections or field candidates directly (although electoral candidates could belong to political parties). A constitutional referendum cancelled this 19-year ban on multi-party politics in July 2005.

The presidential elections were held in February 2006. Museveni ran against several candidates, of whom the most prominent was the exiled Dr. Kizza Besigye. Museveni was declared the winner. Besigye alleged fraud, and rejected the result. The Supreme Court of Uganda ruled that the election was marred by intimidation, violence, voter disenfranchisement, and other irregularities. However, the Court voted 4-3 to uphold the results of the election.

Uganda ( /juːˈɡændə/ yew-GAN-də or /juːˈɡɑːndə/ yew-GAHN-də), officially the Republic of Uganda, is a landlocked country in East Africa. Uganda is bordered on the east by Kenya, on the north by South Sudan, on the west by the Democratic Republic of the Congo, on the southwest by Rwanda, and on the south by Tanzania. The southern part of the country includes a substantial portion of Lake Victoria, which is also shared by Kenya and Tanzania.

Uganda takes its name from the Buganda kingdom, which encompasses a large portion of the south of the country including the capital Kampala.

The people of Uganda were hunter-gatherers until 1,700 to 2,300 years ago, when Bantu-speaking populations migrated to the southern parts of the country. Uganda gained independence from Britain on 9 October 1962.

The official languages are English and Swahili, although multiple other languages are spoken in the country.

David Pakman (born February 2, 1984 in Buenos Aires, Argentina) is a radio and television host, best known as the host of the nationally syndicated political talk radio and TV program "The David Pakman Show".

Pakman was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Pakman received a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Massachusetts Amherst in Amherst, Massachusetts, double-majoring in economics and communication in 2006. In 2009, he graduated with an MBA from Bentley University in Waltham, Massachusetts.

The David Pakman Show is a radio, internet, and television talk show hosted by David Pakman, currently airing on over 100 radio and television stations, DirecTV and DISH Network through Free Speech TV, YouTube, and via internet podcast. The program first aired in August 2005 on WXOJ-LP ("Valley Free Radio"), located in Northampton, Massachusetts, as "Midweek Politics with David Pakman", and has since been nationally syndicated. Midweek Politics is a political talk program, focusing on the politics and news of the week, with regular interviews of both liberal, conservative, and non-political guests. As a weekly show, it airs throughout the week on both radio and television affiliates around the US and across the world.

Mobina S. B. Jaffer, QC (born August 20, 1949 in Kampala, Uganda) is a Canadian Senator representing British Columbia. She is the first South Asian woman appointed to the Upper House.

Born to an Indian family living in Africa, Jaffer was educated in England and Canada. She earned a law degree from the University of London in 1972 and attended the Executive Development program at Simon Fraser University. She lives in Vancouver, British Columbia.

In 2002, she was appointed the Special Envoy to the Peace Process in Sudan by the Government of Canada. The same year, she was Chair of the Canadian Committee on Women Peace & Security.

Jaffer has served as a Vice-President of the Liberal Party of Canada from 1994 to 1998 and as President of the National Women's Liberal Commission from 1998 to 2003. She also served on the board of the Liberal International in 1996. Jaffer ran unsuccessfully in the 1993 general election as the Liberal candidate in North Vancouver, and again in the 1997 election as the party's candidate in Burnaby--Douglas.
