Brian Munro Barron MBE (28 April 1940 – 16 September 2009) was a British foreign and war correspondent for BBC News. During a career spanning five decades he reported on many major world events, including the end of British rule in Aden, the Vietnam War, the troubles in Northern Ireland, the 1991 Gulf War and the 2003 Iraq War. He was also the recipient of a Royal Television Society award for Reporter of the Year in 1980, and was presented with an International Reporting Prize for work in Latin America. He was awarded the MBE for his services to broadcasting in 2006.
Born in Bristol, Barron attended Bristol Grammar School. Directly on leaving school, he started as a print journalist, working for the Western Daily Press in Bristol, before joining BBC News as a chief sub-editor in 1965.
Barron spent 40 years with the BBC, mostly overseas, starting as a producer with what became the BBC World Service. Barron was appointed Aden correspondent in 1967, covering the fall of that part of the British Empire, after which he became Cairo correspondent in 1968.

Brian (sometimes spelled Bryan) is a male given name of Irish and Breton origin, as well as a surname of Occitan origin. It is common in the English-speaking world. It is possible that the name is derived from an Old Celtic word meaning "high" or "noble". For example, the element bre means "hill"; which could be transferred to mean "eminence" or "exalted one". The name is quite popular in Ireland, on account of Brian Boru, a 10th-century king of Ireland. The name was also quite popular in East Anglia during the Middle Ages. This is because the name was introduced to England by Bretons following the Norman Conquest. Bretons also settled in Ireland along with the Normans in the 12th century, and 'their' name was mingled with the 'Irish' version. Also, in the north-west of England, the 'Irish' name was introduced by Scandinavian settlers from Ireland. Within the Gaelic speaking areas of Scotland, the name was at first only used by professional families of Irish origin. It was the fourth most popular male name in England and Wales in 1934, but a sharp decline followed over the remainder of the 20th century and by 1994 it had fallen out of the top 100. It retained its popularity in the United States for longer; its most popular period there was from 1968–1979 when it consistently ranked between eighth and tenth.

Now that North Korea is giving its army nuclear strength it is time we learn more about this country. Enter the hermit kingdom of North Korea. A disused bridge at Panmunjom, a deserted village that straddles the tense border, symbolizes the division of North and South Korea. Since the end of the Korean war in 1953, the armies of North and South Korea have eyed themselves nervously over the demilitarized zone between the two nations. With remarkable access to the North, the film investigates the Juche culture and the personality cult surrounding the Great leader, Kim Il Sung. Sheridan Morley in the Times (5.12.90) described it as "an intriguing documentary" which shows that "ideology still makes a powerful frontier". The reporter on this film was the late Brian Barron, photography by Eric T...

Your mouth is bigger
Than a two car garage
An assault to my ears
A verbal barrage
Your point of view is nowhere
Nowhere like you
Your attitude stinks
Like the garbage you spew
Chorus:
Brain burn
You give me brain burn
Superficial outlook
Shallow to the core
Minuscule mind games
You're nothing but a bore
Out of sight, out of mind
Out of touch, out of time
-Chorus-
You think you're right
But you're always proven wrong
The proof is in the pudding
The way you sing your song
Out of touch, out of time
-Chorus-
Nothin but a bonehead
Solid as a rock
You make me laugh
You're something to mock
You play it safe
And never take a chance
You're just a wimp
You can see it in a glance
Out of sight, out of mind
-Chorus 3X-
