David "Dave" Cross is a British technical author, known in the Perl community for his work with Perl Mongers.
In 2001 Manning Press published Dave Cross's first book Data Munging With Perl.
Dave followed this up in 2003 by co-authoring with Andy Wardley and Darren Chamberlain Perl Template Toolkit, published by O'Reilly Associates.
Dave Cross founded London Perl Mongers, the first Perl user group outside North America.
Since then Dave Cross has become a regular speaker at Perl conferences and other open source conferences such as UKUUG and FOSDEM.
In 2004 Dave Cross was presented with the O'Reilly White Camel award for his work in the Perl community.
In addition to his technical writings Dave Cross currently maintains a personal blog on which he covers issues such as politics and religion — in particular, he is a strong atheist.

Chroma key compositing, or chroma keying, is a special effects / post-production technique for compositing (layering) two images or video streams together based on color hues (chroma range). The technique has been used heavily in many fields to remove a background from the subject of a photo or video – particularly the newscasting, motion picture and videogame industries. A color range in the top layer is made transparent, revealing another image behind. The chroma keying technique is commonly used in video production and post-production. This technique is also referred to as color keying, colour-separation overlay (CSO; primarily by the BBC), or by various terms for specific color-related variants such as green screen, and blue screen – chroma keying can be done with backgrounds of any color that are uniform and distinct, but green and blue backgrounds are more commonly used because they differ most distinctly in hue from most human skin colors. No part of the subject being filmed or photographed may duplicate a color used in the background.
A cross is a geometrical figure consisting of two lines or bars perpendicular to each other, dividing one or two of the lines in half. The lines usually run vertically and horizontally; if they run obliquely, the design is technically termed a saltire, although the arms of a saltire need not meet at right angles.
The cross is one of the most ancient human symbols, and has been used by many religions, most notably Christianity. It may be seen as a division of the world into four elements (Chevalier, 1997) or cardinal points, or alternately as the union of the concepts of divinity, the vertical line, and the world, the horizontal line (Koch, 1955).
The word cross comes ultimately from Latin crux, a Roman torture device used for crucifixion, via Old Irish cros. The word was introduced to English in the 10th century as the term for the instrument of the torturous execution of Jesus as described in the New Testament, gradually replacing the earlier word rood. Crux is possibly derived from Phoenician. According to the Catholic Encyclopedia cross does not come from crux but form the Latin curio, "to torment".
A nursery rhyme is a traditional poem or song for young children in Britain and many other countries, but usage only dates from the late 18th /early 19th century. In North America the term Mother Goose Rhymes, introduced in the mid-18th century, is still often used.
The oldest children's songs of which we have records are lullabies, intended to help a child sleep. Lullabies can be found in every human culture. The English term lullaby is thought to come from "lu, lu" or "la la" sound made by mothers or nurses to calm children, and "by by" or "bye bye", either another lulling sound, or a term for good night. Until the modern era lullabies were usually only recorded incidentally in written sources. The Roman nurses' lullaby, "Lalla, Lalla, Lalla, aut dormi, aut lacta", is recorded in a scholium on Persius and may be the oldest to survive.
Many medieval English verses associated with the birth of Jesus take the form of a lullaby, including "Lullay, my liking, my dere son, my sweting" and may be versions of contemporary lullabies. However, most of those used today date from the 17th century. For example, a well known lullaby such as "Rock-a-bye, baby on a tree top", cannot be found in records until the late-18th century when it was printed by John Newbery (c. 1765).

In this video Dave Cross provide 5 valuable tips for new owners of Wacom Tablets (and people considering the purchase of a tablet). Learn how to quickly get comfortable with a tablet. A lot of people are commenting that a tablet would not be good for gaming, so you shouldn't give up your mouse. Needless to say, I was trying to make the point that one way to get used to the tablet is by forcing the issue by "getting rid of your mouse". The intent was to speed up getting used to the tablet - I'm not necessarily suggesting that you will never use your mouse again.
