2nd best paddle of the trip? For me it definitely was, be interesting to hear, if Matt agrees. This is in my top 5 best paddles ever, the problem with that, is, that I know have about 10 paddles in my top 5!!! We launched at Porthgwarra, which is the first accessible cove as you turn the South coast, from Land's End. A real little gem of a place, but a very narrow access down a single track lane, and limited parking, but toilets, and a small café. We headed west from Porthgwarra, firstly to Gwennap Head, which, in reality, is the true Land's End. The Devon/Cornwall peninsula points South-West, and Gwennap Head is the most South-Westerly point, so, do the math, as they say, and have a word with yourself. Gwennap Head was at least as impressive as Land's End, perhaps even more so, one thing is for sure though, if you paddle the area, and conditions allow, then visiting both is the LAW, and you don't want to break that do you? We headed back the mile or so, to Porthgwarra, then continued East, passing Porthchapel beach, the Minack Theatre, then finally Porthcurno. What is there not to like about Porthcurno? Crystal, turquoise waters, golden sands, all set against weather sculptured granite architecture, draped in a green, fuzzy felt carpet in between rock outcrops. We landed at Green Bay, the next beach along, were I spoke to 'Michael Winner' in the video, who was a local Fisherman, who told me that he hadn't seen it so flat, for 3 or 4 yrs. That just sums up how utterly blessed we were with the whole 11 days of weather. We had lunch at Green Bay, then launched and paddle over to Treryn Dinas, the east end of the bay. The headland has the 65ton Logan Rock perched up there, that used to be able to be rocked, it was so balanced perfectly. At this point I noticed a large, dark coloured fish, about the size of an Otter, in the shallows, it was clearly stalking the resident shoal of Mullet. I managed to film the Mullet, but the mystery fish, evaded the Gopro. The whole experience was just total magic, and the journey back was sublime, with the paling early evening light grazing the granite cliffs at the perfect angle to show every contour, crack, nook, and cranny. We arrived at Porthgwarra, and decided to have another excursion to Gwennap Head, and we were rewarded with some of the most memorable views of the whole trip. This would've been the perfect end to what was our best ever kayak holiday, but we opted for one last day, doing Mullion to Lizard Point, and we weren't disappointed.
