Video notes:
00:14 - Why I like Blaze Riorden. No one throws better outlet passes. This one leads to a fast break goal.
Note to
Crawley:
Don’t play catch with the goalie, you’ll have to run a long way.
00:35 - Why I like Derrick Kihembo. His trail check creates a Ryan Brown goal.
1:13 - Drew Supinski continues to impress. He has the moves and the accurate shots.
Loved Blaze’s reaction after the ball whizzed by his helmet.
1:26 - Brinton Valis makes almost the exact same move as Supinski did to gain separation and then tosses a perfect pass to
Brown for the score. In his sophomore year, Valis looks quicker and stronger, but his shooting, at least on this day, was wildly inaccurate—may be pressing too much. A little more shooting practice and a little less amp, and he may be the Valis everyone thought he would be.
2:12 -
For all you BlueJayologists, who try to read the tea leaves of next season’s starting line-up, look no further than Shack, the straw that stirs the drink. Who does Shack like to feed in this scrimmage? 1. Brown. 2. Cattoni. 3. Marr. I don’t see any chemistry between Shack and Dismuke.
Maybe, that explains why
Wilkins was virtually invisible in this action.
2:28 - Why everyone is so high on
Patrick Foley. Caused turnover, deft ground ball pickup and then he sprints 50 yards down field.
Really like his stick work and quickness.
3:26 -
Exhibit A on why this number #1 ranked freshmen class may have more depth than last year’s top ranked class. Concannon sends the defensive man sprawling with an ankle breaking move, sprints to the goal, freezing the rest of the D with a fake pass, throws two more fakes at the GK before depositing the goal. Can you imagine Concannon coming off the sidelines in the 2nd half against a team with tired legs? That would be unfair.
4:01 - Why I don’t like Derrick Kihembo. He muffs a GB pick up to lead a fast break, leaving his goalie exposed as his defensive mates take off with him.
Result is an easy goal for Albany and the start of a 3 goal run. Can you say momentum changer?
5:46 -
Nick Fields dislodges the ball on the doorstep and the result is a caused turnover.
6:02 - After an unproductive outing against
Harvard,
Thomas Guida showed his dodging ability with the first of his two goals.
Nice vertical leap with Shack to celebrate.
6:15 -
Hop’s
10 goal outburst in the 3rd started at the X with the play of
O’Toole, Spencer and Coulter.
Watching Spencer surgically pick up GB after GB is a definite tonic for Hop's past ground ball woes.
7:14 -
Tell me after watching Supinski scramble for a loose ball on the ground, then operate behind the net, before coming out and scoring after a throwing a
nifty fake, that Drew is not the 2nd best middle on the Hopkins squad. Tinney and Supinski are perfect complements because they can both do so many things for the team.
7:56 -
Want to fire up the Hopkins sideline?
Play like
Chris Hubler did when he bumped the Albany player off the ball to pick up the GB and then threw the outlet pass.
8:14 - Probably the most entertaining highlight was when Blaze Riorden almost reprised his famous Sportscenter length of field jaunt for a goal last season with another less jiggly jaunt that he pulled up short (fooling this cameraman) to assist on the goal.
10:14 - Ben Kellar really impressed on his dead run GB pickup, then taking it to the goal which almost got past the redoubtable Riorden.
10:46 - You want skill, toughness and scrappiness on the wing, Ryan Coulter is all these things in this highlight.
Note
Oh, if you don’t see the 10th goal for Albany, it is because I missed it.
