An end mill is a type of milling cutter, a cutting tool used in industrial milling applications. It is distinguished from the drill bit in its application, geometry, and manufacture. While a drill bit can only cut in the axial direction, a milling bit can generally cut in all directions, though some cannot cut axially.
End mills are used in milling applications such as profile milling, tracer milling, face milling, and plunging.
Several broad categories of end- and face-milling tools exist, such as center-cutting versus non-center-cutting (whether the mill can take plunging cuts); and categorization by number of flutes; by helix angle; by material; and by coating material. Each category may be further divided by specific application and special geometry.
It is becoming increasingly common for traditional solid end mills to be replaced by more cost-effective inserted cutting tools (which, though more expensive initially, reduce tool-change times and allow for the easy replacement of worn or broken cutting edges rather than the entire tool).

Messing around in the shop, I show how make an endmill from a drill bit or twist drill, Only good for roughing but if the bit breaks you can always resharpen and reuse. Bit is similar to a lip & spur wood bits without the centering tip. Not everyone might agree on this method of milling but it has worked for me in the past and comes in handy especially when working on projects where you can't afford breaking a high end bit. Only recommend using on aluminum or wood, never tried this on on steel.

This video is about making from scratch and endmill holder, to hold my small 1/8th" endmills, it needs a 2MT long taper to fit in my milling machine, I designed and built awhile back a tapering jig, that takes the place of my cross slide on my lathe, I use that jig to machine this long taper, and demonstrate its ease of lining up to a pattern and the unique way it cuts tapers unlike any other kind of tapering attachment.

i bought these from prolineparts on ebay item number 281711322939 . he answers you when you have any questions. this is a good buy. and i would buy from them again and when i do need to get a new set they will be the one i go to. for the second time this month i have found 2 people on ebay that wasnt just out to get your money like a hit and run.
