Work is to be carried out to make level crossings safer after 33 near misses and two crashes in Wales in the past year.
Network Rail will be building footbridges, adding new barriers and using more modern technology.
It is also closing some level crossings and appointing managers at nine.
CCTV captured this near miss by a driver on a level crossing in Llangadog, Carmarthenshire, in 2009.

West Wales Anti Bloodsports joined forces with some friendly hunt saboteurs and attended the opening meet of the Carmarthenshire Hunt on October 15th 2011. They looked like they had something to hide from the beginning - soon after the hunt had started, four supporters (one with a terrier) arrive in a field where hounds had shortly before been on cry. Sabs are threatened with having their camera forced down their throat by a supporter who is clearly well known to the hunt master. The supporter claims he has spent a lot of time in prison and is well known to Carmarthenshire police. He then claims his solicitor is Clive Rees, who is present on horseback. This individual specialises in (his own words) "Defending the Indefensible", namely animal related offenses, such as hunting with dogs, badger digging, poaching, disturbance of wild birds, and other similar offences". Hounds then follow a fox (the Hunt Master Mike Watts was present and told the sabs he had seen the fox) onto a busy main road, where they mill around causing chaos for drivers and at risk of being run over. One dog is lame, and Watts says someone is coming to pick it up. But the same lame hound is then filmed two hours later, still running with the pack. The hunt supporter from earlier then threatens to "fill in" a sab, and accuses them of being "fucking paedophiles or queer".

Carmarthenshire (Welsh: Sir Gaerfyrddin or Sir Gâr) is a unitary authority in the south west of Wales and one of thirteen historic counties. It is the third largest in Wales. The three largest towns are Llanelli, Carmarthen and Ammanford. The county town and administrative centre of Carmarthenshire is Carmarthen and the most populous settlement is the area in and around the town of Llanelli.
With its fertile land and agricultural produce, Carmarthenshire is known as the "Garden of Wales".
Carmarthenshire has its early roots in the region formerly known as Ystrad Tywi (Vale of [the river] Tywi) and part of the Principality of Deheubarth during the High Middle Ages, with the court at Dinefwr.
Following the Edwardian Conquest of Wales, the region was reorganized by the Statute of Rhuddlan in 1284 into Carmarthenshire.
Carmarthenshire has been spelt in other ways in the past, including:
Carmarthenshire became an administrative county with a county council taking over functions from the Quarter Sessions under the Local Government Act 1888. Under the Local Government Act 1972, the administrative county of Carmarthenshire was abolished on 1 April 1974 and the area of Carmarthenshire became three districts within the new county of Dyfed : Carmarthen, Dinefwr and Llanelli. Under the Local Government (Wales) Act 1994, Dyfed was abolished on 1 April 1996 and the three districts united to form a unitary authority which had the same boundaries as the original Carmarthenshire. In 2003, following a local campaign, the Clunderwen community council area was transferred to Pembrokeshire.

I went out to capture one of the newer MURCO trains that tend to be Class 66 hauled rather than the more common Class 60's. Firstly we see 60091 heading West to pick up a loaded train from Robeston, followed by 150240 on a Swansea to Carmarthen local service, and finally 66018 on a train of empty tanks bound for Robeston. -

WWAB were peacefully monitoring the Carmarthenshire Hunt at Bancyfelin in January last year. Firstly, one of the assembled terriermen thinks it a good idea to display his backside in a field. Later in the day, they block in two cars belonging to monitors, so that they can bang on the windows, spit and jump all over the car and shout unintelligible abuse.

Carmarthenshire Hunt flush a fox out to be shot and disembowelled
West Wales Anti Bloodsports were monitoring the Carmarthenshire Hunt in November 2010. The hunt are seen together at the start of the day with a group of gunmen at the Castle Inn, Llansteffan. The gunmen then position themselves around woods into which the huntsman (Anthony Owen) takes the hounds. Gunmen on a quad bike follow the huntsman out of a farm track and talk to him shortly before he directs the hounds into a patch of woodland. The hounds go immediately on cry, and shortly afterwards a shot is heard. Monitors rush to the area and see a gunmen kick a body of a fox into a hole in a riverbank. They call the police - it is only legal to use two hounds to flush a fox to guns, in order to prevent serious agricultural damage, and only with the express permission of the landowner. The Hunt... -

The Carmarthenshire Tourism Awards, are organised every two years, by the Carmarthenshire Tourist Association - and aim to celebrate success and inspire excellence within the region's tourism and hospitality industry. Work is to be carried out to make level crossings safer after 33 near misses and two crashes in Wales in the past year.
Network Rail will be building footbridges, adding new barriers and using more modern technology.
It is also closing some level crossings and appointing managers at nine.
CCTV captured this near miss by a driver on a level crossing in Llangadog, Carmarthenshire, in 2009.

West Wales Anti Bloodsports joined forces with some friendly hunt saboteurs and attended the opening meet of the Carmarthenshire Hunt on October 15th 2011. They looked like they had something to hide from the beginning - soon after the hunt had started, four supporters (one with a terrier) arrive in a field where hounds had shortly before been on cry. Sabs are threatened with having their camera forced down their throat by a supporter who is clearly well known to the hunt master. The supporter claims he has spent a lot of time in prison and is well known to Carmarthenshire police. He then claims his solicitor is Clive Rees, who is present on horseback. This individual specialises in (his own words) "Defending the Indefensible", namely animal related offenses, such as hunting with dogs, badger digging, poaching, disturbance of wild birds, and other similar offences". Hounds then follow a fox (the Hunt Master Mike Watts was present and told the sabs he had seen the fox) onto a busy main road, where they mill around causing chaos for drivers and at risk of being run over. One dog is lame, and Watts says someone is coming to pick it up. But the same lame hound is then filmed two hours later, still running with the pack. The hunt supporter from earlier then threatens to "fill in" a sab, and accuses them of being "fucking paedophiles or queer".

Gunmen on a quad bike follow the huntsman out of a farm track and talk to him shortly before he directs the hounds into a patch of woodland. The hounds go immediately on cry, and shortly afterwards a shot is heard. Monitors rush to the area and see a gunmen kick a body of a fox into a hole in a riverbank. They call the police - it is only legal to use two hounds to flush a fox to guns, in order to prevent serious agricultural damage, and only with the express permission of the landowner. The Hunt Master Mike Watts rides up and tells monitors the land belongs to him and that they cannot go into the unfenced woodland - but he then rides off and is not seen all day by the monitors. A gunman is filmed leaving the scene at the same time as the hounds. Monitors then find the body of a fox which has been shot and had its intestines ripped out. The Carmarthenshire Hunt later claim they did not know the gunmen.

Carmarthen
Carmarthen is a community in, and the county town of, Carmarthenshire, Wales. It is on the River Towy 8 miles (13 km) north of its mouth at Carmarthen Bay. In 2001, the population was 15,854. Carmarthen claims to be the oldest town in Wales but the two settlements of Old and New Carmarthen were only united into a single borough in 1546. Carmarthen was the most populous borough in Wales between the 16th and 18th centuries and was described by William Camden as "the chief citie of the country". Carmarthen is a community in, and the county town of, Carmarthenshire, Wales. It is on the River Towy 8 miles (13 km) north of its mouth at Carmarthen Bay. In 2001, the population was 15,854.
Carmarthen claims to be the oldest town in Wales but the two settlements of Old and New Carmarthen were only united into a single borough in 1546. Carmarthen was the most populous borough in Wales between the 16th and 18th centuries and was described by William Camden as "the chief citie of the country". However, population growth stagnated by the mid 19th century as more dynamic economic centres developed in the South Wales coalfield. Carmarthen is the location of the headquarters of Dyfed-Powys Police, the Carmarthen campus of the University of Wales, Trinity Saint David and Glangwili General Hospital.

When Britannia was a Roman province, Carmarthen was the civitas capital of the Demetae tribe, known as Moridunum ("Sea Fort"). Carmarthen is possibly the oldest town in Wales and was recorded by Ptolemy and the Antonine Itinerary. The Roman fort is believed to date from around AD 75. A Roman coin hoard was found nearby in 2006. Near the fort is one of seven surviving Roman amphitheatres in the United Kingdom and one of only two in Roman Wales (the other being at Isca Augusta, Roman Caerleon). It was excavated in 1968. The arena itself is 50 x 30 yards (about 46 by 27 metres); the cavea (seating area) is 100 x 73 yards (92 by 67 metres). Veprauskas has argued for its identification as the Cair Guorthigirn ("Fort Vortigern") listed by Nennius among the 28 cities of Britain in his History of the Britains.
In the Middle Ages, the settlement was known as Llanteulyddog ('St Teulyddog's)[9] and accounted one of the seven principal sees in Dyfed. The strategic importance of Carmarthen was such that the Norman William fitz Baldwin built a castle there, probably around 1094. The current castle site is known to have been used since 1105. The castle was destroyed by Llywelyn the Great in 1215. In 1223, the castle was rebuilt and permission was received to wall and crenellate the town. Carmarthen was among the first medieval walled towns in Wales. In 1405, the town was taken and the castle was sacked by Owain Glyndŵr. The Black Book of Carmarthen, written around 1250, is associated with the town's Priory of SS John the Evangelist and Teulyddog.
During the Black Death of 1347–49, the plague was brought to Carmarthen by the thriving river trade. The Black Death "destroy'd and devastated" villages such as Llanllwch. Local historians place the plague pit, the site for mass burial of the dead, in the graveyard that adjoins the Maes-yr-Ysgol and Llys Model housing at the rear of St Catherine Street.
