Shango es un Osha guerrero, el rey de la religión Yoruba y uno de los Orishas más populares de su panteón. Shango es un Osha y está en el grupo de los Oshas de cabecera. Orisha de la justicia, la danza, la fuerza viril, los truenos, los rayos y el fuego, dueño de los tambores Batá, Wemileres, Ilú Batá o Bembés, del baile y la música; representa la necesidad y la alegría de vivir, la intensidad de la vida, la belleza masculina, la pasión, la inteligencia y las riquezas. Es el dueño del sistema religioso de Osha-Ifá. Representa el mayor número de situaciones favorables y desfavorables. Fue el primer dueño e intérprete del oráculo de Ifá, es adivino e intérprete del oráculo del Diloggún y del de Biange y Aditoto. Shango representa y tiene una relación especial con el mundo de los Eggun.
Shango fue el 4° Alafín (rey) de Òyó, esta es la segunda dinastía de Oduduwa luego de la destrucción de Katonga, la primera capital administrativa del imperio Yoruba. Shango llegó en un momento trascendental de la historia Yoruba, donde las gentes se habían olvidado de las enseñanzas de Dios. Shango fue enviado con su hermano gemelo por Oloddumare para limpiar la sociedad y que el pueblo siguiera nuevamente una vida limpia y las enseñanzas del Dios único.
Luego de que se hizo rey, el pueblo comenzó a decir que Shango era muy estricto e incluso tirano. En aquel tiempo las leyes decían que si un rey dejaba de ser querido por su pueblo debía ser muerto. Shango terminó con su vida ahorcándose, pero regresó en su hermano gemelo Angayú quien con el uso de la pólvora, acabó con los enemigos de Shango, quien a partir de allí comenzó a ser adorado como Orisha y fue llamado el Señor de los Truenos.
Shango fue un rey guerrero y los generales de Ibadan lo amaban. Sus seguidores lo veían como el recipiente de grandes potencialidades creativas. Shango fue uno de los reyes Yorubas que ayudó a construir las formaciones de batalla y gracias a sus conquistas el imperio Yoruba se extendió desde Mauritania hasta Gabón. Se hizo famoso sobre todo por su caballería de guerra, la cual tuvo un papel fundamental en la construcción del imperio.
Existen otras leyendas donde se dice que Shango mató a sus hijos y esposas por sus experimentos con la pólvora, luego de arrepentirse se convirtió en Orisha.
Shango fue el primer awó, que luego cambiara el ashé de la adivinación con Orunla por la danza, por esto es muy importante en el culto de ifá para los babalawos, teniendo los babalawos una mano de Ikines llamada mano de Shango.

Shango is historically a royal ancestor of the Yoruba as he was the third king of the Oyo Kingdom prior to his posthumous deification. In the Lukumí (Olokun mi = "my dear one") religion of the Caribbean, Shango is considered the center point of the religion as he represents the Oyo people of West Africa, the symbolic ancestors of the adherents of the faith. All the major initiation ceremonies (as performed in Cuba, Puerto Rico and Venezuela for the last few hundred years) are based on the traditional Shango ceremony of Ancient Oyo. This ceremony survived the Middle Passage and is considered to be the most complete to have arrived on Western shores. This variation of the Yoruba initiation ceremony became the basis of all Orisha initiations in the West

Orisha de la justicia, la danza, la fuerza viril, los truenos, los rayos y el fuego, dueño de los tambores Batá, Wemileres, Ilú Batá o Bembés, del baile y la música; representa la necesidad y la alegría de vivir, la intensidad de la vida, la belleza masculina, la pasión, la inteligencia y las riquezas. Es el dueño del sistema religioso de Osha-Ifá. Representa el mayor número de situaciones favorables y desfavorables. Fue el primer dueño e intérprete del oráculo de Ifá, es adivino e intérprete del oráculo del Diloggún y del de Biange y Aditoto. Shango representa y tiene una relación especial con el mundo de los Eggun.
Shango fue el 4° Alafín (rey) de Òyó, esta es la segunda dinastía de Oduduwa luego de la destrucción de Katonga, la primera capital administrativa del imperio Yoruba. Shango llegó en un momento trascendental de la historia Yoruba, donde las gentes se habían olvidado de las enseñanzas de Dios. Shango fue enviado con su hermano gemelo por Oloddumare para limpiar la sociedad y que el pueblo siguiera nuevamente una vida limpia y las enseñanzas del Dios único.
Luego de que se hizo rey, el pueblo comenzó a decir que Shango era muy estricto e incluso tirano. En aquel tiempo las leyes decían que si un rey dejaba de ser querido por su pueblo debía ser muerto. Shango terminó con su vida ahorcándose, pero regresó en su hermano gemelo Angayú quien con el uso de la pólvora, acabó con los enemigos de Shango, quien a partir de allí comenzó a ser adorado como Orisha y fue llamado el Señor de los Truenos.
Shango fue un rey guerrero y los generales de Ibadan lo amaban. Sus seguidores lo veían como el recipiente de grandes potencialidades creativas. Shango fue uno de los reyes Yorubas que ayudó a construir las formaciones de batalla y gracias a sus conquistas el imperio Yoruba se extendió desde Mauritania hasta Gabón. Se hizo famoso sobre todo por su caballería de guerra, la cual tuvo un papel fundamental en la construcción del imperio.
Existen otras leyendas donde se dice que Shango mató a sus hijos y esposas por sus experimentos con la pólvora, luego de arrepentirse se convirtió en Orisha.
Shango fue el primer awó, que luego cambiara el ashé de la adivinación con Orunla por la danza, por esto es muy importante en el culto de ifá para los babalawos, teniendo los babalawos una mano de Ikines llamada mano de Shango.
