Idle (idling) is a term which generally refers to a lack of motion and/or energy.
In describing a person or machine, idle means the act of nothing or no work (for example: "John Smith is an idle person"). This is a person who spends his days doing nothing could be said to be "idly passing his days." (For example: Mary has been idle on her instant messenger account for hours.) A computer processor or communication circuit is described as idle when it is not being used by any program, application or message. Similarly, an engine of an automobile may be described as idle when it is running only to sustain its running (not doing any useful work), this is also called the tickover (see idle).
Typically, when one describes a machine as idle, it is an objective statement regarding its current state. However, when used to describe a person, idle typically carries a negative connotation, with the assumption that the person is wasting their time by doing nothing of value.
Marina Lambrini Diamandis (Greek: Μαρίνα-Λαμπρινή Διαμαντή; born 10 October 1985), better known by her stage name Marina and the Diamonds, is a Welsh singer-songwriter. Born in Brynmawr and raised in nearby Pandy, she moved to London as a teenager in order to achieve a dream of being a singer, despite little formal musical experience. In 2009, Diamandis came to prominence after being ranked in second place on the Sound of 2010 poll organised by the BBC.
Diamandis's debut studio album The Family Jewels (2010) incorporates indie pop and new wave musical styles, and entered the UK Albums Chart at number five. Its second single "Hollywood" peaked at number 12 on the UK Singles Chart. Her follow-up record Electra Heart (2012) integrates prominent elements of electropop, and became her first number-one project in the United Kingdom. Its lead single "Primadonna" stands as her highest-charting track in the country after reaching number 11. Diamandis's synthpop-inspired third studio album Froot (2015) became her third top-ten album in the United Kingdom, and her first top-ten entry on the US Billboard 200.
We were headed south on 29
the clock spoke of the lapse
from a severed nerve in the back of time
the bridge was out we jumped the synapse
and we're off the road and off the clock
and though the hedges that we're betting
will slow us down and absorb
all the details that you're sweating
and we won't know until we get there
if sense of timing has been impaired
hands are broken digits despair
pressing forward until we get there
