Watchers (film)
Watchers is a 1988 horror film starring Corey Haim, Michael Ironside, Barbara Williams and Lala Sloatman. It is loosely based on the novel Watchers by Dean R. Koontz.
The film was shot in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. There have been three sequels released Watchers II, Watchers 3 and Watchers Reborn.
Plot
An explosion occurs in a classified research laboratory, causing an intense fire. A mutated monster known as the OXCOM (Outside Experimental Combat Mammal) escapes and chases a golden retriever in the same lab through the surrounding woods. The dog outruns it and hides in a barn. In the barn, Travis Cornell (Corey Haim) is with his girlfriend Tracey (Lala Sloatman). Thinking it is her father, Travis leaves. Tracey discovers the beast and screams, summoning her father who is attacked. Meanwhile, Travis finds the dog in the back of his car and a military/police force is sweeping the area for the escapees. Travis starts to realize the dog is extraordinary and decides to keep it. Meanwhile, an NSO agent named Johnson (Michael Ironside) is dispatched by the corporation to retrieve the animals.

Lubrication theory
In fluid dynamics, lubrication theory describes the flow of fluids (liquids or gases) in a geometry in which one dimension is significantly smaller than the others. An example is the flow above air hockey tables, where the thickness of the air layer beneath the puck is much smaller than the dimensions of the puck itself.
Internal flows are those where the fluid is fully bounded. Internal flow lubrication theory has many industrial applications because of its role in the design of fluid bearings. Here a key goal of lubrication theory is to determine the pressure distribution in the fluid volume, and hence the forces on the bearing components. The working fluid in this case is often termed a lubricant.
Free film lubrication theory is concerned with the case in which one of the surfaces containing the fluid is a free surface. In that case the position of the free surface is itself unknown, and one goal of lubrication theory is then to determine this. Surface tension may then be significant, or even dominant. Issues of wetting and dewetting then arise. For very thin films (thickness less than one micrometre), additional intermolecular forces, such as Van der Waals forces or disjoining forces, may become significant.

Watcher (comics)
The Watchers are a race of fictional extraterrestrials appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. Created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, the first Watcher - named Uatu - appears in Fantastic Four #13 (April 1963).
Fictional history
The Watchers are one of the oldest species in the universe and are committed to observing and compiling knowledge on all aspects of the universe. This policy of total non-interference came into existence due to a former, well-meant attempt by the Watchers to bestow advanced knowledge on the Prosilicans, who used the nuclear technology gained to create weapons and destroy themselves. When the Watchers returned to Prosilicus, the survivors blamed them for causing the catastrophe by giving the Prosilicans nuclear technology before they were ready for it. The Watchers then took a vow never to interfere with other civilizations.

Watchers (novel)
Watchers is a 1987 suspense novel by American author, Dean Koontz. Along with Strangers, Lightning, and Midnight, Watchers is credited with establishing Koontz's status as a best-selling author.
Plot summary
The story begins in Orange, California. Travis Cornell, a former Delta Force operative, feels that his life has become pointless, and is exploring a canyon near his home when he encounters two genetically engineered creatures that have escaped from a top-secret government lab. One, a golden retriever with enhanced intelligence, befriends Travis; the other, a creature known as the Outsider, appears to be trying to kill the dog. After eluding the Outsider, Travis takes the dog home. On discovering the dog's exceptional intelligence, he names him Einstein.
Later, he and Einstein find and rescue Nora Devon in a park, who was being pestered by a sexually offensive man, Arthur Streck. Together they form a trio.
Travis, Nora, and Einstein are soon on the run not only from the Outsider, but from federal agents, determined to track down the lab escapees, and Vince Nasco, a ruthless professional assassin, hired by Soviets to kill several human targets to cover up the conspiracy of the two genetically engineered creatures. He wants the dog to trade for a great sum of cash, alone, without any knowledge from the Soviets or others.

Coming to America (1988) in 10 Minutes of Reaction Shots
John Landis sure does like reaction shots. His 1988 film, Coming to America, contains nearly 10 minutes of them-- characters looking at each other, characters looking at the camera, dogs doing double-takes (shots that take just as much time to stage, light, focus, etc, but are basically just characters listening to the characters who are actually doing the things in the scene). Here they all are in one custom edit, with all audio replaced to smooth things out. Curiously, it's not hard to follow the original story, even though literally nothing happens in this version.

Do you ever wonder what the future holds? What could your day-to-day life theoretically look like in 10, 50 or even 100 years? The further out the future, the harder it is to predict what normal life will look like, but that doesn't stop futurists trying to predict transport, fashion, technology or general aesthetic styling.
#Retrofuturism is a vision of the future, from the past. The film and gaming industry has a long history of showcasing their depictions of the future, and that's what we're going to take a look at today. What I'm particularly interested in, for this short video at least, are visions of the future beginning from the late 60s, right up until the late 80s as depicted in cinema. Then, let's have a look at how various video games share their versions of the future - with some examples notably taking inspiration from the film's discussed prior, and one game, unfortunately unlikely to see the light of day.
Alien is synonymous with #retrofuturism, particularly, cassette futurism. In this universe, humans are a spacefaring species, capable of travelling many light years to other stars, yet the user interfaces used throughout feel very much like a strange mix of digital and analogue, crews seemingly dependent on physical storage mediums, like cassettes, with feedback served though monochrome, vector style graphics on CRT displays.
Using CRT displays, with all their limitations and curves, wasn't a choice out of limitation but rather an aesthetic choice made to coincide with the industrial setting of the mining-ship Nostromo. It's worth pointing out that Kubrick's 2001 came out 11 years earlier, and imagines that individuals in the future will have access to completely flat, high resolution panels. But we'll move on to that shortly.
Finally, let's talk about the use of iconography throughout Alien - influential iconography, designed by the legendary set designer, Ron Cobb. Cobb would design what's known as the semiotic standard - a series of icons specifically for the film, referring to features such as pressurised area, bulk-head, laser and my favourite, coffee.
Honestly, I could easily spend a whole 10-minute video talking about how cool these icons are.
Did you know science fiction writer, and futurist, Arthur C Clarke predicted that geostationary satellites would become an integral part of telecommunications? Or that he predicted the internet in 1964? Of course, there are many predictions that he made that didn't see the light of day, but those that he did get correct, are hugely important to the continued technological progress of our species.
Clarke co-wrote the screenplay for the classic film, 2001 A Space Odyssey, which he concurrently wrote the novel as well.
The film is noted for its depiction of space travel in the future, as well as the design language used throughout and unique, certainly in 1968, dedication to minimalist aesthetics. A fine introduction to #retrofuturism, courtesy of Clark and Kubrick's unrelenting dedication to visual superiority.
Focus on UI etc, IBM displays. What did typical displays, computers look like at the time? Mention tablets etc in 2001. Use of colour, particularly red. Combination of monochrome displays and tactile buttons.
Like Alien that preceded it, Akira is another example of Cassette Futurism. Released in 1988 in Japan, Akira showcases a wonderful collection of hand drawn digital user interfaces throughout. A number of which resemble the user-interfaces used in 2001 A Space Odyssey. Without any real life constraints, they’re obviously user-interfaces for the sake of user-interfaces, drawn more for their aesthetic qualities, with little evidence to suggest that they’re useful in any way. However, that can be often said for a lot of retro-futuristic ideas and visuals, and it should be remembered that these visuals aid the tone, and atmosphere, that the director wants to illustrate.
One particularly effective example is a holographic interface that shows the viewer the amount of energy the titular Akira is generating. We can see subtle, low level movements when we first see this interface, which eventually shifts to show Akira’s true power.

His 1988 film, Coming to America, contains nearly 10 minutes of them-- characters looking at each other, characters looking at the camera, dogs doing double-takes (shots that take just as much time to stage, light, focus, etc, but are basically just characters listening to the characters who are actually doing the things in the scene). Here they all are in one custom edit, with all audio replaced to smooth things out. Curiously, it's not hard to follow the original story, even though literally nothing happens in this version.

His 1988 film, Coming to America, contains nearly 10 minutes of them-- characters looking at each other, characters looking at the camera, dogs doing double-takes (shots that take just as much time to stage, light, focus, etc, but are basically just characters listening to the characters who are actually doing the things in the scene). خلاصه داستان#
در آخرین دقایق زندگی پدری تلاش میکند با دختر خود تماس بگیرد، ولی ناتوان از این تماس از دنیا میرود. زمانی که دختر به به همراه برادر خود به منزل پدر میرسند، خیلی دیر شده است. وصیتنامه پدر نواختن موسیقی در زمان مراسم تشییع پیکرش است زیرا که او به خانم همسایه قول داده بود تا در تولدش برایش موسیقی بنوازد.

خلاصه داستان#
در آخرین دقایق زندگی پدری تلاش میکند با دختر خود تماس بگیرد، ولی ناتوان از این تماس از دنیا میرود. زمانی که دختر به به همراه برادر خود به منزل پدر میرسند، خیلی دیر شده است. وصیتنامه پدر نواختن موسیقی در زمان مراسم تشییع پیکرش است زیرا که او به خانم همسایه قول داده بود تا در تولدش برایش موسیقی بنوازد.

زن روز مجلهای از گروه نشریات روزنامه کیهان است دربارهٔ مدلهای لباس زنانه، اخبار زنان، پزشکی، عکس، سرگرمی، کودکان، هنرپیشهها، تاریخچهٔ لباس که در ایران منتشر میشود.این نشریه در اوایل دهه ۱۳۴۰ شمسی توسط مرحوم مجید دوامی بنیانگذاری شد. دوامی معتقد به روزنامهنگاری جنجالی بود. وی در بازگشت از سفر به امریکا که بهمنظور یک دورهٔ مطالعاتی بود، با خود طرحی به همراه داشت که توانست با موافقت دکتر مصباحزاده در کیهان آن را به اجرا درآورد. که نتیجه آن در سال ۱۳۴۳ شمسی (۱۹۶۵ میلادی) انتشار پر تیراژ ترین مجلهٔ تاریخ ایران یعنی هفتهنامه زن روز با مدیریت فروغ مصباحزاده و سردبیری تامالاختیار مجید دوامی بود.زن روز قبل از انقلاب ۱۳۵۷ ایران و بعد از اصلاحات مشهور به انقلاب شاه و ملت عملاً پرچمدار مدرنیزم و فمینیسم در ایران بود.در این مجله برای سلیقه های مختلف مطلب وجود داشت.از جمله طرحهای جنبی و جنجالی مجله زن روز برپایی مسابقاتی با عنوان دختر شایسته ایران بود که در زمرهٔ مسابقات جهانی قرار داشت و یک بار منتخب ایرانی این مسابقه موفق شد که در مسابقات جهانی برگزیده شود. این طرح از بدو شروع با مخالفت محافل سنتی و مذهبی مواجه گردید.انتشار این نشریه در حال حاضر نیز ادامه دارد و این نشریه هنوز زیرمجموعهٔ مؤسسه کیهان است.

Watchers (film)
Watchers is a 1988 horror film starring Corey Haim, Michael Ironside, Barbara Williams and Lala Sloatman. It is loosely based on the novel Watchers by Dean R. Koontz.
The film was shot in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. There have been three sequels released Watchers II, Watchers 3 and Watchers Reborn.
Plot
An explosion occurs in a classified research laboratory, causing an intense fire. A mutated monster known as the OXCOM (Outside Experimental Combat Mammal) escapes and chases a golden retriever in the same lab through the surrounding woods. The dog outruns it and hides in a barn. In the barn, Travis Cornell (Corey Haim) is with his girlfriend Tracey (Lala Sloatman). Thinking it is her father, Travis leaves. Tracey discovers the beast and screams, summoning her father who is attacked. Meanwhile, Travis finds the dog in the back of his car and a military/police force is sweeping the area for the escapees. Travis starts to realize the dog is extraordinary and decides to keep it. Meanwhile, an NSO agent named Johnson (Michael Ironside) is dispatched by the corporation to retrieve the animals.

Heathers is a 1989 American black comedy film written by Daniel Waters and directed by Michael Lehmann, in both of their respective film debuts. The film stars Winona Ryder, Christian Slater, Shannen Doherty, Lisanne Falk, Kim Walker, and Penelope Milford. Its plot portrays four teenage girls—three of whom are named Heather—in a clique at an Ohio high school, one of whose lives is disrupted by the arrival of a misanthrope intent on murdering the popular students and staging their deaths as suicides.
Waters wrote Heathers as a spec script and originally wanted Stanley Kubrick to direct the film, out of admiration for Kubrick's own black comedy film Dr. Strangelove. Waters intended for the film to contrast the more optimistic teen movies of the era, particularly those written by John Hughes, by presenting a cynical depiction of high school imbued with dark satire.
Factoid: The song "Teenage Suicide (Don't Do It)" by the fictional band Big Fun was written and produced for the film by musician Don Dixon, and performed by the ad hoc group "Big Fun", which consisted of Dixon, Mitch Easter, Angie Carlson, and Marti Jones. Do you ever wonder what the future holds? What could your day-to-day life theoretically look like in 10, 50 or even 100 years? The further out the future, the harder it is to predict what normal life will look like, but that doesn't stop futurists trying to predict transport, fashion, technology or general aesthetic styling.
#Retrofuturism is a vision of the future, from the past. The film and gaming industry has a long history of showcasing their depictions of the future, and that's what we're going to take a look at today. What I'm particularly interested in, for this short video at least, are visions of the future beginning from the late 60s, right up until the late 80s as depicted in cinema. Then, let's have a look at how various video games share their versions of the future - with some examples notably taking inspiration from the film's discussed prior, and one game, unfortunately unlikely to see the light of day.
Alien is synonymous with #retrofuturism, particularly, cassette futurism. In this universe, humans are a spacefaring species, capable of travelling many light years to other stars, yet the user interfaces used throughout feel very much like a strange mix of digital and analogue, crews seemingly dependent on physical storage mediums, like cassettes, with feedback served though monochrome, vector style graphics on CRT displays.
Using CRT displays, with all their limitations and curves, wasn't a choice out of limitation but rather an aesthetic choice made to coincide with the industrial setting of the mining-ship Nostromo. It's worth pointing out that Kubrick's 2001 came out 11 years earlier, and imagines that individuals in the future will have access to completely flat, high resolution panels. But we'll move on to that shortly.
Finally, let's talk about the use of iconography throughout Alien - influential iconography, designed by the legendary set designer, Ron Cobb. Cobb would design what's known as the semiotic standard - a series of icons specifically for the film, referring to features such as pressurised area, bulk-head, laser and my favourite, coffee.
Honestly, I could easily spend a whole 10-minute video talking about how cool these icons are.
Did you know science fiction writer, and futurist, Arthur C Clarke predicted that geostationary satellites would become an integral part of telecommunications? Or that he predicted the internet in 1964? Of course, there are many predictions that he made that didn't see the light of day, but those that he did get correct, are hugely important to the continued technological progress of our species.
Clarke co-wrote the screenplay for the classic film, 2001 A Space Odyssey, which he concurrently wrote the novel as well.
The film is noted for its depiction of space travel in the future, as well as the design language used throughout and unique, certainly in 1968, dedication to minimalist aesthetics. A fine introduction to #retrofuturism, courtesy of Clark and Kubrick's unrelenting dedication to visual superiority.
Focus on UI etc, IBM displays. What did typical displays, computers look like at the time? Mention tablets etc in 2001. Use of colour, particularly red. Combination of monochrome displays and tactile buttons.
Like Alien that preceded it, Akira is another example of Cassette Futurism. Released in 1988 in Japan, Akira showcases a wonderful collection of hand drawn digital user interfaces throughout. A number of which resemble the user-interfaces used in 2001 A Space Odyssey. Without any real life constraints, they’re obviously user-interfaces for the sake of user-interfaces, drawn more for their aesthetic qualities, with little evidence to suggest that they’re useful in any way. However, that can be often said for a lot of retro-futuristic ideas and visuals, and it should be remembered that these visuals aid the tone, and atmosphere, that the director wants to illustrate.
One particularly effective example is a holographic interface that shows the viewer the amount of energy the titular Akira is generating. We can see subtle, low level movements when we first see this interface, which eventually shifts to show Akira’s true power.

John Landis sure does like reaction shots. His 1988 film, Coming to America, contains nearly 10 minutes of them-- characters looking at each other, characters looking at the camera, dogs doing double-takes (shots that take just as much time to stage, light, focus, etc, but are basically just characters listening to the characters who are actually doing the things in the scene). Here they all are in one custom edit, with all audio replaced to smooth things out. Curiously, it's not hard to follow the original story, even though literally nothing happens in this version.

خلاصه داستان#
در آخرین دقایق زندگی پدری تلاش میکند با دختر خود تماس بگیرد، ولی ناتوان از این تماس از دنیا میرود. زمانی که دختر به به همراه برادر خود به منزل پدر میرسند، خیلی دیر شده است. وصیتنامه پدر نواختن موسیقی در زمان مراسم تشییع پیکرش است زیرا که او به خانم همسایه قول داده بود تا در تولدش برایش موسیقی بنوازد.

زن روز مجلهای از گروه نشریات روزنامه کیهان است دربارهٔ مدلهای لباس زنانه، اخبار زنان، پزشکی، عکس، سرگرمی، کودکان، هنرپیشهها، تاریخچهٔ لباس که در ایران منتشر میشود.این نشریه در اوایل دهه ۱۳۴۰ شمسی توسط مرحوم مجید دوامی بنیانگذاری شد. دوامی معتقد به روزنامهنگاری جنجالی بود. وی در بازگشت از سفر به امریکا که بهمنظور یک دورهٔ مطالعاتی بود، با خود طرحی به همراه داشت که توانست با موافقت دکتر مصباحزاده در کیهان آن را به اجرا درآورد. که نتیجه آن در سال ۱۳۴۳ شمسی (۱۹۶۵ میلادی) انتشار پر تیراژ ترین مجلهٔ تاریخ ایران یعنی هفتهنامه زن روز با مدیریت فروغ مصباحزاده و سردبیری تامالاختیار مجید دوامی بود.زن روز قبل از انقلاب ۱۳۵۷ ایران و بعد از اصلاحات مشهور به انقلاب شاه و ملت عملاً پرچمدار مدرنیزم و فمینیسم در ایران بود.در این مجله برای سلیقه های مختلف مطلب وجود داشت.از جمله طرحهای جنبی و جنجالی مجله زن روز برپایی مسابقاتی با عنوان دختر شایسته ایران بود که در زمرهٔ مسابقات جهانی قرار داشت و یک بار منتخب ایرانی این مسابقه موفق شد که در مسابقات جهانی برگزیده شود. این طرح از بدو شروع با مخالفت محافل سنتی و مذهبی مواجه گردید.انتشار این نشریه در حال حاضر نیز ادامه دارد و این نشریه هنوز زیرمجموعهٔ مؤسسه کیهان است.
