Sugo

Sugo or The Chosen One (International title) is a fantasy Philippine drama produced by GMA Network. Directed by Dominic Zapata and Lore Reyes, the series premiered July 4, 2005 and ended February 10, 2006. The series featured Richard Gutierrez in the title role, with Isabel Oli, Chynna Ortaleza, Lorna Tolentino and Gardo Versoza.

Overview

Sugo dwells on the topic of good versus evil. The good side is represented by the karag-ayan tribe and the darker side is binhi-lan. The battle between these forces starts during the Spanish era when Apo Abukay (Gardo Versoza), a chieftain who wants to gain powers and use it dominate the world, exchanges his soul with the anito (spirit god) but is killed by Conde Vergonze. After his death, his cursed soul remains. Many years later, during the 1980s, Karag-ayan Amelia (Lorna Tolentino) and the Binhi-lan Rodolfo (Jestoni Alarcon) fall in love with each other. Amelia gives birth to twin boys. The two are raised separately, not knowing that the other exists. Miguel (the son of light) is kind, good-hearted and lives a modest life; the other, Amante (the seed of darkness) is raised with hate and rage but with riches and power.

Geography

Sighetu Marmației is situated along the Tisa river on the border with Ukraine, across from the Ukrainian town of Solotvyno. Neighboring communities include: Sarasău, Săpânța, Câmpulung la Tisa, Ocna Șugatag, Giulești, Vadu Izei, Rona de Jos and Bocicoiu Mare communities in Romania, Bila Cerkva community and the Solotvyno township in Ukraine (Zakarpattia Oblast). The city administers five villages: Iapa (Kabolapatak), Lazu Baciului (Bácsiláz), Șugău (Sugó), Valea Cufundoasă (Mélypatak) and Valea Hotarului (Határvölgy).

The city's name derives from the traco-dacian word "zeget" which means castle or Hungarian name which means "island in Máramaros".

Forty Thieves forms the basis for several variant games, most of which have been made easier to win. Common variations are dealing the aces to the foundations at the start of the game, having the tableaus build down by alternating colour rather than by suit, and allowing cards built down on top of a tableau to be moved together.
