The Scottish Parliament (Scottish Gaelic: Pàrlamaid na h-Alba; Scots: The Scots Pairliament) is the devolved national, unicameral legislature of Scotland, located in the Holyrood area of the capital, Edinburgh. The Parliament, informally referred to as "Holyrood", is a democratically elected body comprising 129 members known as Members of the Scottish Parliament (MSPs). Members are elected for four-year terms under the mixed member proportional representation system. As a result, 73 MSPs represent individual geographical constituencies elected by the plurality ("first past the post") system, with a further 56 returned from eight additional member regions, each electing seven MSPs. The most recent general election to the Parliament was held on 5 May 2011.
The original Parliament of Scotland (or "Estates of Scotland") was the national legislature of the independent Kingdom of Scotland, and existed from the early 13th century until the Kingdom of Scotland merged with the Kingdom of England under the Acts of Union 1707 to form the Kingdom of Great Britain. As a consequence, the Parliament of Scotland merged with the Parliament of England to form the Parliament of Great Britain, which sat at Westminster in London.

Donald John Trump, Sr. (born June 14, 1946) is an American business magnate, television personality and author. He is the chairman and president of The Trump Organization and the founder of Trump Entertainment Resorts. Trump's extravagant lifestyle, outspoken manner and role on the NBC reality show The Apprentice have made him a well-known celebrity who was No. 17 on the 2011 Forbes Celebrity 100 list. He is well-known as a real-estate developer who amassed vast hotel, casino, and other real-estate properties, in the New York City area and around the world.
Trump is the son of Fred Trump, a wealthy New York City real-estate developer. He worked for his father's firm, Elizabeth Trump & Son, while attending the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, and in 1968 officially joined the company. He was given control of the company in 1971 and renamed it The Trump Organization.
In 2010, Trump expressed an interest in becoming a candidate for President of the United States in the 2012 election. In May 2011, he announced he would not be a candidate, but a few weeks later he said he had not completely ruled out the possibility. In December 2011, Trump was suggested as a possible Vice Presidential selection by Michele Bachmann. Bachmann has since suspended her presidential campaign.

American business tycoon Donald Trump told the Economy, Energy and Tourism Committee he had been "lured" into building a £1bn golf resort in Scotland with assurances that a nearby wind farm would not go ahead, on 25 April 2012.
Mr Trump said he was assured by the then first minister Jack McConnell, and by Alex Salmond, that the project would not happen.He said "What they did is they lured me in. I spent this money, and now I might regret it."Lord McConnell and Mr Salmond have denied the claims.
Mr Trump said Mr Salmond, who became First Minister in May 2007, had "poo-pooed" the wind farm development, saying there was an MoD problem and "all sorts of shipping lane problems".
He added: "After I've invested this tremendous amount of money, all of a sudden this really obnoxious and ugly wind farm appears - which is worse than a wind farm because there is going to be all these different looking windmills." He said he "felt betrayed" as he had invested his money because of statements that had been made to him. SNP MSP Chic Brodie told Mr Trump there had been a 9% increase in tourism visits to Scotland last year and pointed to research by VisitScotland in which 80% of people in the UK said the presence of a wind farm would not affect their decision about where to stay when on a holiday or short break in Britain.
The South of Scotland MSP asked the US tycoon what analysis he had that "supports the assertions you have made against wind" But Mr Trump replied: "I am the evidence. I am an expert in tourism, I am considered a world-class expert in tourism, so when you say where is the evidence, I am the evidence."
Scottish Conservative MSP and convener of the committee Murdo Fraser pressed Mr Trump on why he had not sought more than just verbal assurances, given the importance of the development. Mr Trump said he "didn't think it was necessary".
Mr Fraser went on to ask Mr Trump about claims that he was looking to withdraw from the site and was conducting a "face-saving exercise". Mr Trump replied: "I am looking forward to proceeding with the job and I want to build a hotel, I want to build further, I don't want to stop."
Green MSP Patrick Harvie quizzed Mr Trump on the details of the purchase of the land for his development and the circumstances surrounding the alleged assurances on the wind farm proposals.Scottish Labour MSP Claire Baker pointed out to the American businessman that it was not just wind turbines that aged and became obsolete but that this was a challenge for all energy sectors.Also giving evidence were George Sorial from the Trump Organisation; J Mark Gibson and Graham Lang from Communities Against Turbines Scotland.

It is the medium for some of the country's best loved poems and songs and is still spoken today by people throughout the Lowlands and Northern Isles. Scots like Gaelic is recognised by the European Charter for Regional or Minority Languages. Scots is one of our great cultural treasures, it has been with us for hundreds of years and we encounter it everyday in names like Kirk Brae, Trongate and Holyrood.
Scots is sometimes known by local names. People in the North East often call it Doric while in Dundee it's known as Dundonian and in Shetland it is usually referred to as Shetland dialect. In its literary form it can be called Lallans -- Hugh Macdiarmid is the best known of the Lallans poets. His epic poem, A Drunk Man Looks at the Thistle is written in Scots. Older generations usually called the language Scotch or 'braid Scots'.
In this interview with Dr Dauvit Horsbroch of the Scots Language Centre, First Minister, Alex Salmond, talks about his encounters with the language as a boy growing up in Linlithgow and then later in the North East where his constituency, Gordon, is located. The First Minster describes his use of Scots words and phrases in parliamentary debates and explains why he has a particular fondness for the expressive qualities of the language. The interview also looks at the Scots question in the 2011 census and considers the future health and status of the language. Mr Salmond reveals his great admiration for the work of Robert Burns and recites an example of the bard's verse. The whole interview is available to watch online.

Polls opened at 7 a.m. (0600 GMT), with voting across Scotland from populous Glasgow to the scattered Orkney Islands.
Early voters on the streets of Edinburgh were all in favour of a Scottish Parliament.

These are my top five things to do in Edinburgh, Scotland! Obviously there is more than five things to do (including Holyrood Palace and the Scottish Parliament Building, which are both great) but these are my personal favourites. Enjoy!
1) Arthurs Seat - Situated on top of the remains of an extinct volcano, known as the castle rock, Edinburgh castle is one of Scotland's most iconic sites. The castle has been under siege on 26 occasions and researchers claim it is "the most besieged place in Great Britain and one of the most attacked in the world".
2) The Royal Mile - Stretching one Scots mile, roughly 1.8km, between Edinburgh Castle and Holyrood palace, the royal mile is the busiest street in Edinburgh. Along the mile, you can visit St Giles, a 14th century cathedral which acts as the principal place of worship for the Church of Scotland in Edinburgh, and is refereed to as the "Mother Church of Presbyterianism".
3)Visible for miles around Edinburgh, Arthur's seat rises 822 feet above Edinburgh, and provides excellent panoramic views of the city. Its name comes from the mythology surrounding it, as it is often mentioned as one of the possible locations of Camelot, the legendary castle of King Arthur. The crags, which are found right next to Arthurs seat, provide the best views of the hill itself.
4) Found at the east end of princes street, Calton hill is part of Edinburgh's UNESCO world heritage site. The hill itself is home to a number of iconic buildings, such as the city observatory and national monument, which was based on the pantheon in Athens, and gave rise to one of Edinburgh's nicknames, "the athens of the north". My favourite thing about Calton Hill, however, is the view over the centre of Edinburgh, where you can see St Giles cathedral, Scott monument, the castle, north bridge, the Balmoral hotel, the Dugald Stewart monument, and the Pentland hills all the way in the background.
5) Scott Monument - Affectionately referred to as the "Gothic Rocket" by Edinburgh residents, the Scott monument was built as a memorial to Scottish author Sir Walter Scott. It is possible to climb up for a fee of around £4, and the highest platform is 287 steps up.
