Francesco Barsanti came to London in 1714, where he performed in the London orchestras. He married a Scotswoman and got to know the folk music of the North, which resulted in some of the most beautiful settings of these tunes.
Lochaber, in the north-west of Scotland, is a wild and rugged place of mountain and moorland, running from the Great Glen to Knoydart on the coast. There are versions of this tune called King James March to Ireland dating from the 17th century. It is known in Ireland as Limerick's Lament.

In this months packed show, we head west to the magnificent area of Lochaber in the West Highlands of Scotland. Famous for the Raising of the Standard at Glenfinnan during the Jacobite rebellion, and not to forget the stunning scenery, Lochaber is sadly often overlooked by the fishing community. In view of this we head out on the water to shed light on why Lochaber should be on every anglers bucket list.
In the first on our Lochaber series, we meet up with fishing guide, writer and all round trout guru, Stan Headley and resident ghillie Mark Hirst, where we head out on to Loch Arkaig to see exactly why Arkaig is a location that stands out among others.
We also, take a look at the high standard accommodation that is available for visiting anglers to the area, and meet up with the Lochaber Fisheries Trust, to discuss the new initiatives that have been put into action to re-establish area as a first class destination for fishing in Scotland.

Lochaber
Lochaber (/lɒxˈɑːbər/) (Scottish Gaelic Loch Abar) is one of the 16 ward management areas of the Highland Council of Scotland and one of eight former local government districts of the two-tier Highland region. There are also earlier senses of Lochaber as a district, and Parish, within the county of Inverness (Inverness-shire), and the county of Argyll - north of Loch Eil - and as simply a district of Scotland. All senses of Lochaber refer to an area in the west of the Scottish Highlands
The ward management area is one of five comprising the Highland Council's Ross, Skye and Lochaber corporate management area, which is one of three Highland Council corporate management areas. The Ross, Skye and Lochaber area consists of six out of the 22 wards of the council area and the Lochaber area consists of two wards, the Caol and Mallaig ward, which elects three councillors, and the Fort William and Ardnamurchan ward, which elects four councillors. Each of the other wards of the corporate area is a separate ward management area.
