LADOT Transit’s Bus Operations and Maintenance Facility Groundbreaking Ceremony

LADOT is constructing first Bus Operations and Maintenance Facility, which includes a CNG fueling station on a 2.5 acre lot in the Downtown LA area at 454-518 E Commercial Street and 459-535 E Ducommun Street and bounded by Garey Street to the east. All previous facilities like this have been leased by the contractors that operate LADOT’s transit services. The facility will be completed in the 4th quarter of 2018. The cost of entire project, including parcel acquisition, design and construction is $42 million, of which Federal Transit Administration is contributing 80% and the City’s local match is 20%. The purpose of the facility is two-fold: increase mobility and efficiency by housing up to 70 DASH buses and improve air quality. The new facility will reduce greenhouse gases by fueling CNG buses using RNG fuel (renewable natural gas) as well as expand the charging infrastructure capability for electric vehicles in the LADOT Transit DASH Downtown fleet. By utilizing green building approaches & materials, the facility will be energy efficient and also qualify for an LEED (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design) Gold Level certification. LEED is a national green building certification program that recognizes best-in-class building strategies and practices. The approaches and materials that meet the Gold level award are: Building products & materials with a low emissivity rating &/or are certified as Environmentally Preferable Products Utilization of solar panels Cool roofs/green roofs on at least 75% of the roof structure to reduce heating load on the building Interior spaces designed to take advantage of maximum amount of daylight with an automatic control system to reduce or turn off lighting when natural light is sufficient Landscaping includes shrubs and trees Produced by Medgar Parrish and the LADOT Communications Team
