How to acquire and use a Sun
Stone.
It's a bit rough as it's my first real video.
Commentary.
This commentary is provided so that non english speakers can use a translate
program to understand my speach on the video, breaks are provided so you can
pause the video to read the commentary and restart when you are ready.
PART 1.
This is about
Viking Sun
Stones, how to use them, what stones to use and where
to get them
...... This is a piece of Optical Calcite from
Hunan Provence in
China; the
Vikings used
Icelandic Spar but you can''t get it any more, the
Spar
Fields are protected
. ...... This piece is 50mm x 50mm x 25mm, any smaller
than that is too difficult to use.
PART 2.
Sunrise, I am going to test an Icelandic Spar crystal to see how they work as a
Sun Stone. I have to get out of the sun because it will effect the crystal.
Up on the upper right hand side you will see two dots (a single dot of paint
has been placed on the upper surface of the crystal). Now this side here will
point directly to the sun at sunrise when we align to it(touches crystal).
You will see 2 dots, as we come around to the
East 1 will fade and come back
then the other will fade and come back; the referrence side is now pointing
South. Between the 2 fade outs where the 2 dots are equal that points directly
to the sun, that referrence edge points directly to the sun rise.
PART 3.
All the gemstone mentioned on this video can be bought on ebay for a fairly
reasonable price.
PART 4.
There were 2 other gemstones in common use in
Europe, brown schorl from around
the Drava river in
Austria and
Slovenia (dravite tourmaline), its also found in
Saxony in the Ore hills there.
The other is Iolite, there is not much Iolite
left in Europe, she's mined out, it works well. I have got a necklace, a
Thor's
Hammer, the stone in that is Iolite, I will show you how to use it later.
PART 5.
This is brown schorl from the Drava river in Austria and Slovenia, the crystal
is orriented
North - South; as I turn to the rising sun that crystal will darken
because it's a sun stone. We'll go right the way round until it is pointing
North - South again. The sun is at 30 degrees and that is about the limit that
these things are capable of working at, if you go higher than 30 degrees the sun
stone
function stops working. I had to wait this long because this little
camera phone won't pick up the subtleties of colour that the human eye will pick
up; any way I think it has shown it.
PART 6.
See it change colour?
Purple ....... a yellow colour, that's Iolite picking up
the sun over the horizon, it;s a sun stone.
PART 7.
That's my
Thor's Hammer and mounted up the front of it is an Iolite crystal; at
the moment that crystal is orriented North - South,
I'll now turn it to face the
rising sun. It will darken. Now we will turn it back North - South again, it
lightens up. Now how do you use these things?
Watch this. (Walks over to table)
There's the rising sun, there is the Thor's Hammer pointing straight to it, see
those little marks on the side? I put them there at the
Equinox. If you line up
that mark at the point with that mark on the side that gives you the bearing of
the
Celestial North. That is how they use it.
