Twelve people were arrested, and three people were stabbed, including one man possibly stabbed with a Confederate flag, when the Ku Klux Klan held a rally at an Anaheim, California park.
The event did not go well for the Klan on Saturday, February 27th. A handful of Klan members were confronted by a much larger group of counter protesters, and several fights erupted.
Bloodied Klan members were literally chased out of the neighborhood by angry and violent protesters.
Seven protesters were arrested along with five KKK members.
The man stabbed with the flag was taken to the hospital in critical condition, but is expected to survive.
ANAHEIM, CALIFORNIA — Freedom of Speech includes letting the Ku Klux Klan hold peaceful rallies, even if what they are advocating is abhorrent. This bit of hard truth was lost, however, on a mob in Anaheim, California that began beating up KKK and other affiliated groups' members on Saturday, February 27, 2016.
The scuffles started Saturday morning after the KKK began an anti-Muslim, anti-illegal immigrant, "White Lives Matter" at Pearson Park in Anaheim, California.
Reuters reports Klan members were quickly outnumbered by counter-demonstrators who initially remained peaceful. But, when a black SUV arrived carrying more Klansmen holding more hate-filled signs, something snapped and as many as 50 counter-protesters started getting violent.
As fights broke out, four people were stabbed. One counter-protester is reportedly in critical condition after being stabbed by the spear finial end of a flagpole.
The LA Times reports that Brian Levin, the director of Cal State San Bernardino's Center for the Study of Hate and Extremism and a man of Jewish heritage, pushed William Quigg, the Klan leader he was interviewing, out of harm's way as the mob approached.
Asked later about being saved by a Jew, Quigg was gracious enough to thank Levin.
Thirteen people were arrested, including the Klansman flag pole stabber.
Many expressed dismay that violence occurred. Local resident Dion Garcia told Reuters: "It was crazy. A lot of us were trying to break it up. This was not necessary, they should have just let the Klan protest. This is America, we have free speech."

Disneyland Park, originally Disneyland, is the first of two theme parks built at the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, California, opened on July 17, 1955. It is the only theme park designed and built under the direct supervision of Walt Disney. It was originally the only attraction on the property; its name was changed to Disneyland Park to distinguish it from the expanding complex in the 1990s.
Walt Disney came up with the concept of Disneyland after visiting various amusement parks with his daughters in the 1930s and 1940s. He initially envisioned building a tourist attraction adjacent to his studios in Burbank to entertain fans who wished to visit; however, he soon realized that the proposed site was too small. After hiring a consultant to help him determine an appropriate site for his project, Walt bought a 160-acre (65 ha) site near Anaheim in 1953. Construction began in 1954 and the park was unveiled during a special televised press event on the ABC Television Network on July 17, 1955.
Since its opening, Disneyland has undergone a number of expansions and major renovations, including the addition of New Orleans Square in 1966, Bear Country (now Critter Country) in 1972, and Mickey's Toontown in 1993. Opened in 2001, Disney California Adventure Park was built on the site of Disneyland's original parking lot.
Disneyland has a larger cumulative attendance than any other theme park in the world, with over 650 million guests since it opened. In 2013 the park hosted approximately 16.2 million guests, making it the third most visited park in the world that calendar year.[2] According to a March 2005 Disney Company report 65,700 jobs are supported by the Disneyland Resort, including about 20,000 direct Disney employees and 3,800 third-party employees (independent contractors or their employees).

Anaheim (pronounced /ˈænəhaɪm/) is a city in Orange County, California. As of the 2010 United States Census, the city population was 336,265, making it the most populated city in Orange County, the 10th most-populated city in California, and ranked 54th in the United States. The city anticipates that the population will surpass 400,000 by 2014 because of rapid development in its Platinum Triangle area as well as in Anaheim Hills. The Platinum Triangle is the fastest growing area in Orange County. Anaheim is the second largest city in Orange County in terms of land area (after Irvine), and is known for its theme parks, sports teams and convention center.
Founded by fifty German families in 1857 and incorporated as the second city in Los Angeles County on February 10, 1870, Anaheim developed into an industrial center, producing electronics, aircraft parts and canned fruit. It is the site of the Disneyland Resort, a world-famous grouping of theme parks and hotels which opened in 1955, Angel Stadium of Anaheim, Honda Center and Anaheim Convention Center, the largest convention center on the West Coast. Its name is a blend of "Ana", after the nearby Santa Ana River, and "heim", a common German place name compound originally meaning "home".

The event did not go well for the Klan on Saturday, February 27th. A handful of Klan members were confronted by a much larger group of counter protesters, and several fights erupted. Dozens of protesters brawled with Ku Klux Klan members after hearing about a planned KKK rally by a park near Disneyland. This bit of hard truth was lost, however, on a mob in Anaheim, California that began beating up KKK and other affiliated groups' members on Saturday, February 27, 2016.
The scuffles started Saturday morning after the KKK began an anti-Muslim, anti-illegal immigrant, "White Lives Matter" at Pearson Park in Anaheim, California.
Reuters reports Klan members were quickly outnumbered by counter-demonstrators who initially remained peaceful. But, when a black SUV arrived carrying more Klansmen holding more hate-filled signs, something snapped and as many as 50 counter-protesters started getting violent.
As fights broke out, four people were stabbed. One counter-protester is reportedly in critical condition after being stabbed by the spear finial end of a flagpole.
The LA Times reports that Brian Levin, the director of Cal State San Bernardino's Center for the Study of Hate and Extremism and a man of Jewish heritage, pushed William Quigg, the Klan leader he was interviewing, out of harm's way as the mob approached.
Asked later about being saved by a Jew, Quigg was gracious enough to thank Levin.
Thirteen people were arrested, including the Klansman flag pole stabber.

ANAHEIM, CALIFORNIA — Freedom of Speech includes letting the Ku Klux Klan hold peaceful rallies, even if what they are advocating is abhorrent. This bit of hard truth was lost, however, on a mob in Anaheim, California that began beating up KKK and other affiliated groups' members on Saturday, February 27, 2016.
The scuffles started Saturday morning after the KKK began an anti-Muslim, anti-illegal immigrant, "White Lives Matter" at Pearson Park in Anaheim, California.
Reuters reports Klan members were quickly outnumbered by counter-demonstrators who initially remained peaceful. But, when a black SUV arrived carrying more Klansmen holding more hate-filled signs, something snapped and as many as 50 counter-protesters started getting violent.
As fights broke out, four people were stabbed. One counter-protester is reportedly in critical condition after being stabbed by the spear finial end of a flagpole.
The LA Times reports that Brian Levin, the director of Cal State San Bernardino's Center for the Study of Hate and Extremism and a man of Jewish heritage, pushed William Quigg, the Klan leader he was interviewing, out of harm's way as the mob approached.
Asked later about being saved by a Jew, Quigg was gracious enough to thank Levin.
Thirteen people were arrested, including the Klansman flag pole stabber.
