This is an underrated gem of a movie released in 1992,
the same year as 'The Player'.Even though i like 'The Player'
and have been an ardent fan of Robert Altman, i have
to say this movie is more honest to its subject matter.
If not for anything, watch this for Martin Landau's performance.
I loved him in everyone of his scenes. Made by Barry Primus on
a shoestring budget despite powerful names - Robert Deniro,
Eli Wallach, Martin Landau and a cameo by Chris Walken.

Helen (Virginia Madsen) is seduced by Candyman (Tony Todd) while inspecting his lair.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Bernard Rose followed his moody fantasy-thriller Paperhouse (1988) with this modern horror tale, based on Clive Barker's short story "The Forbidden". Compiling a thesis on urban legends, University of Illinois in Chicago graduate student Helen Lyle (Virginia Madsen) becomes aware of the prevalent superstition surrounding the legend of "Candyman" (Tony Todd)--a hook-wielding phantom who will appear if his name is recited five times into a mirror--among the tenants of Chicago's Cabrini Green project. A senior professor, hearing of Helen's research, explains the historical basis for the legend, detailing how Candyman is believed to be the vengeful spirit of a former slave who, though initially respected in academia, was set upon and mutilated by an angry mob when accused of taking a white mistress. When the clinically-detached Helen flaunts her intellectual confidence by reciting Candyman's name five times, she sets in motion an inevitable series of supernatural events -- culminating in a series of grisly killings, after which Helen is invariably found holding the bloody murder weapon. Though she is captured by the police, it becomes evident to Helen that Candyman is guiding her fate every step of the way.

Mistress is a 1992 comedy-drama film starring Robert de Niro, Danny Aiello, Eli Wallach, Robert Wuhl and Martin Landau. It was written by Barry Primus and J.F. Lawton and directed by Primus.
A down-and-out Hollywood screenwriter and director named Marvin Landisman (Robert Wuhl) is working on cheaply made instructional videos when his years-old script is read by Jack Roth (Martin Landau), a desperate has-been producer who offers to help poor Marvin find investors for his movie.
Men willing to put up the money are found, including the ruthless businessman Evan (Robert DeNiro), the disturbed war veteran Carmine (Danny Aiello) and the eccentric millionaire George (Eli Wallach). But each has a mistress he insists be cast in the film. They are the demanding diva Beverly (Sheryl Lee Ralph), the alcoholic flight attendant Patricia (Jean Smart) and the perky blonde Peggy (Tuesday Knight).
Marvin repeatedly is asked to compromise his standards and change his script to accommodate these backers until he finally sees no semblance of his original ideas. The project also puts a strain on the marriage of Marvin and his long-patient wife Rachel (Laurie Metcalf).

Bernard Rose followed his moody fantasy-thriller Paperhouse (1988) with this modern horror tale, based on Clive Barker's short story "The Forbidden". Compiling a thesis on urban legends, University of Illinois in Chicago graduate student Helen Lyle (Virginia Madsen) becomes aware of the prevalent superstition surrounding the legend of "Candyman" (Tony Todd)--a hook-wielding phantom who will appear if his name is recited five times into a mirror--among the tenants of Chicago's Cabrini Green project. A senior professor, hearing of Helen's research, explains the historical basis for the legend, detailing how Candyman is believed to be the vengeful spirit of a former slave who, though initially respected in academia, was set upon and mutilated by an angry mob when accused of taking a white mistress. Off the Ground is an album by Paul McCartney, released in 1993. As his first studio album of the 1990s, it is also the follow-up to the acclaimed Flowers in the Dirt from 1989, and bears many similarities with its predecessor.
Recording and structure
When the sessions for the album began in the fall of 1991, McCartney decided to use his current touring band as session musicians, most of whom had already appeared on Flowers In The Dirt.[citation needed] In addition, "Mistress And Maid" and "The Lovers That Never Were", which emerged from his songwriting collaboration with Elvis Costello, made their appearance on this album. Unlike Flowers In The Dirt, however, Costello would not appear on Off the Ground.
One of the main differences between Flowers In The Dirt and Off The Ground is the leaner, more direct sound. With the musicians sounding less studied than they had on the previous release, Off The Ground has a relaxed, natural feel by comparison. Another change is McCartney's increased interest in social issues, be it the scathing anti-animal cruelty rocker "Looking For Changes" (McCartney and his wife Linda long-time vegetarians by this time) or paeans for a better world ("Hope Of Deliverance" and "C'Mon People").
Release
The lead single, "Hope Of Deliverance", was released in the last week of December 1992 and the album followed in February 1993. While Off The Ground hit #5 in the UK and reached #17 in the US, where it eventually went gold, it was the first Paul McCartney album to not contain a sizeable US hit single since Wings' Wild Life in 1971. While "Hope of Deliverance" floundered there, it managed to reach #18 in the UK, where "C'Mon People" would become a minor hit as well. Worldwide positions for the album were generally good but that was mainly because Off the Ground was released during the very poorly competitive post-Christmas season. The album spent only 6 weeks inside the Top 100 in the UK, eventually reaching #5 there. In Germany, the album was particularly successful and certified platinum with "Hope of Deliverance" reaching #3 on the singles chart and the album spending four weeks at #2.
Some weeks after its release, McCartney launched "The New World Tour", taking in many successful shows across the globe during the summer months. These gigs were documented on the album Paul Is Live, which followed at the end of 1993.
Although generally considered a slightly weaker successor to Flowers In The Dirt and now somewhat overlooked, Off The Ground is prized by many McCartney followers.
The feet on the album cover are actually of McCartney, his wife Linda and his touring band.

Also, when the iTunes store added his catalog of music in 2007, they included "I Can't Imagine" as an exclusive bonus track on the album.

The scandal included adultery,
holding concerts for Soong in Vienna and Sydney
with taxpayers' money, paying for her opera flings
with Navy expenditures,
and building the RMB3 billion National Grand Theatre,
just to please Soong.
Commentator Zhuang Tianliang said,
Lu Jiaping revealed two major problems of Jiang:
his forged resume and his scandal with Soong.
Afterwards Lu disappeared for a few days.
It is said that he was taken away.
He returned safe and sound.
Someone high up in CCP's must have protected him,
as this involves an internal power struggle
amongst CCP's elite.

Authorities continue promoting "red songs" in China
to celebrate the Chinese Communist Party's
90-year anniversary. On May 8, Song Zuying,
known as "mother of communist China,"
sang red songs in Taipei Arena stadium.
Song, with the rank of a major-general in the army,
is also the rumored mistress of
former CCP leader Jiang Zemin.
The organizers said Soong's concert
costs an estimated NT$ 100 million,
estimations were based on sponsorships
from 2-3 companies including Shanxi Coals.
Taiwan Evergreen Marine and EVA Air
sponsored tickets and container transportation.
One of Soong's four customized dresses
was embroidered with 10,000 diamonds
valued at NT$ 1.84 million.
"Fudge Master" Zhao Benshan arrived to support.
Xinhua website published Soong's program
with 22 songs in total. People's Daily overseas
commented that this program was designed
for the United Front and its theme was
