Under Five Emperors of 150 years' constructing, Yuanming Yuan (The Old Summer Palace) became the largest and most luxurious royal garden in Qing Dynasty (1644-1912 AD), which was regarded as the "real garden of all gardens". In 1860, the Anglo-France joint force burned the Yuanming Yuan after their three days plundering during the second Opium War. The Yuanming Yuan was totally destroyed by Eight-Nation Alliance in the summer of 1900. This documentary is based on narration of the royal painter Giuseppe Castiglione (Lang Shining) (a former Italian missionary) and plenty of mails and diaries written by British and French missionaries and soldiers.
The Old Summer Palace in Beijing was a vast complex of palaces and gardens built in the 18th and 19th century during the Qing Dynasty. It will always be remembered for the infamous looting and destruction by English and French forces during the Opium Wars.

In 1860 during the Second Opium War, two British envoys, a journalist for The Times and their small escort of British and Indian troopers met with the Royal Prince to negotiate. They were imprisoned and tortured, resulting in twenty deaths.The British High Commissioner to China, Lord Elgin, retaliated by ordering the destruction of the palace, which was then carried out by British and French troops.

Li Zhihui is a well-known New Age (new century) musician from Beijing, China. He holds the title of The Kitarō of China based on his great contributions to Chinese New Age music. The song The Forbidden Garden is one of his most famous pieces of music. It has two versions, and this is the second version from his album Our Gone Home II issued in June 2008.

The Summer Palace (simplified Chinese: 颐和园; traditional Chinese: 頤和園; pinyin: Yíhé Yuán; literally "Gardens of Nurtured Harmony") is a palace in Beijing, China. The Summer Palace is mainly dominated by Longevity Hill (60 meters high) and the Kunming Lake. It covers an expanse of 2.9 square kilometers, three quarters of which is water.
Longevity Hill is about 60 meters (196.9 feet) high and houses many buildings positioned in sequence. The front hill is rich in the splendid halls and pavilions, while the back hill, in sharp contrast, is quiet with natural beauty
The central Kunming Lake covering 2.2 square kilometers was entirely man made and the excavated soil was used to build Longevity Hill. In the Summer Palace, one finds a variety of palaces, gardens, and other classical-style architectural structures.
In December 1998, UNESCO included the Summer Palace on its World Heritage List. It declared the Summer Palace "a masterpiece of Chinese landscape garden design. The natural landscape of hills and open water is combined with artificial features such as pavilions, halls, palaces, temples and bridges to form a harmonious ensemble of outstanding aesthetic value." It is a popular tourist destination but also serves as a recreational park.

In 1860 during the Second Opium War, two British envoys, a journalist for The Times and their small escort of British and Indian troopers met with the Royal Prince to negotiate. They were imprisoned and tortured, resulting in twenty deaths.The British High Commissioner to China, Lord Elgin, retaliated by ordering the destruction of the palace, which was then carried out by British and French troops.

Li Zhihui is a well-known New Age (new century) musician from Beijing, China. He holds the title of The Kitarō of China based on his great contributions to Chinese New Age music. The song The Forbidden Garden is one of his most famous pieces of music. It has two versions, and this is the second version from his album Our Gone Home II issued in June 2008.

At the beginning of a valley, São Vicente lies hidden beyond the steep slopes of the northern coastline. The tastefully restored centre of the village contains a seventeenth century church with a Baroque interior. There are gilded carvings, tile pictures and paintings on the altar. At an amazing acute angle, the gondola from the mountain station below the village of Achadas Da Cruz travels three hundred metres down to the coast and back. This most beautiful Baroque church on the north coast was established in São Jorge. Its external simplicity gives little hint of its internal beauty: gilded wood carvings and illusionist paintings adorn the church and its altar. To the east of Madeira is the natural bay of Machico, the oldest settlement on the island. Today, Madeira’s third largest city extends from the coast to the hills of the wide and fertile valley of the Machico River whose inhabitants live from the cultivation of fruit, vineyards and fishing. Funchal is the capital of the Atlantic island of Madeira and is situated in a natural, picturesque bay, surrounded by steep mountain slopes. With churches, palaces, mansions, museums and magnificent gardens, it is a city of both character and history. The Museum Of Religious Art is to be found in the former bishop’s palace. The sugar trade with Antwerp meant that paintings and other works of art could be used as payment. Madeira has long been famous for its wine, stored in wooden barrels to mature and then exported all over the world. In the old rooms of a former monastery, it is pressed, matured and celebrated. At the beginning of a valley, São Vicente lies hidden beyond the steep slopes of the northern coastline. The tastefully restored centre of the village contains a seventeenth century church with a Baroque interior. There are gilded carvings, tile pictures and paintings on the altar. At an amazing acute angle, the gondola from the mountain station below the village of Achadas Da Cruz travels three hundred metres down to the coast and back. This most beautiful Baroque church on the north coast was established in São Jorge. Its external simplicity gives little hint of its internal beauty: gilded wood carvings and illusionist paintings adorn the church and its altar. To the east of Madeira is the natural bay of Machico, the oldest settlement on the island. Today, Madeira’s third largest city extends from the coast to the hills of the wide and fertile valley of the Machico River whose inhabitants live from the cultivation of fruit, vineyards and fishing. Well, welcome to Luxembourg! The only Grand Duchy in the world. Over the next few days we're going to be exploring the capital of Luxembourg City and this is going to be a little city guide to show you some of the highlights.
Located smack dab in between Germany, France, and Belgium, the little Grand Duchy of Luxembourg can be easy to miss if you're not looking carefully, however, we're of the opinion that this is a beautiful destination that you'll definitely want to make time for. From picturesque neighbourhoods with cream coloured walls, to dazzling views of blue rooftops in the Old Town below, Luxembourg City is a charming destination that you'll want to add to your European itinerary.
So this hear is the Corniche and it is a pedestrian promenade which has been called the most beautiful balcony in all of Europe because it gets some spectacular views of the old town.
So we are now entering the Bock Casemates and apparently this was the old fortification of Luxemborg and it was known as the Gibraltar of the north.
This was once one of the most envied fortresses in all of Europe and stretched out like a web for several kilometers across the city.
Right now we're visiting the Three Towers which are remnants of an old fortress.
We've been walking around a neighborhood called the Grund which is directly below the city center. And it is really picturesque and without tourists. No one is wandering around these little lanes and streets.
So behind me we have Saint Michael's church which is the oldest church in Luxembourg. The first church to be built on this spot dates back to the year 987, however, the church was destroyed, rebuilt, and renovated many times over the centuries.
The Palace houses the Grand Duke's office and during the summer months you can even gain access to the building if you pre-book a guided tour.
There is no shortage of museums in Luxembourg City, so we took some time to visit the National Museum of Art and History.
Luxembourg offers a nice network of pedestrian streets where you can shop and even do a little bit of people watching.
We are now looking at the Passerelle which is Luxembourg's very own viaduct.
So we are now standing in William Square which is a really popular spot on Sundays and Wednesdays because local vendors setup shop and they sell all kinds of things from fresh produce, to flowers, street snacks.
So final thoughts of Luxembourg. Alright, to wrap things up here it was a really cool city. It is the type of city that you can explore in just one or two days. A weekend type of destination because a lot of the attractions are nearby one another. And we just found it a very easy city to get around in on foot.
So as a little travel tip if you're planning on being in the city for a few days we really recommend the Luxembourg Card. This is what we used while we were here and it is really good for public transportation across the city. Across the country actually and you also get access to seventy different galleries, museums, historic attractions and it is not that expensive. I mean it depends on whether you get a family or an individual card but we really recommend it because we made a lot of use of it.

Let us not forget about the gastronomical part of China, since the country’s cuisine is one of the best on Earth. From Beijing we can travel to the old capital, Xian, where the famous clay soldiers can be seen. The Ming Dinasty Tombs are only 50 kilometres far from Beijing, but the Great Wall of China is not far either.

It has been such a pleasant surprise and unlike any part of Europe we've traveled in so far. So yeah, this week we're going to be highlighting 25 things to do around the city and we're excited to show you what it is all about.
We came to Warsaw with little to no expectations and the city completely surprised us. Our week in the capital was spent sampling Polish cuisine, learning about the city's past through museums and historical tours, and also dabbling in a bit of the nightlife. Warsaw is quickly rising through the ranks and we think it won't be long before travellers are flocking en masse. So if you're planning a trip to Poland, don't skip over the capital because there is more to Warsaw than meets the eye.

Well hello and welcome to Warszawa. This week we are exploring the Polish capital. We've already been here a few days and it has been amazing. It has been such a pleasant surprise and unlike any part of Europe we've traveled in so far. So yeah, this week we're going to be highlighting 25 things to do around the city and we're excited to show you what it is all about.
We came to Warsaw with little to no expectations and the city completely surprised us. Our week in the capital was spent sampling Polish cuisine, learning about the city's past through museums and historical tours, and also dabbling in a bit of the nightlife. Warsaw is quickly rising through the ranks and we think it won't be long before travellers are flocking en masse. So if you're planning a trip to Poland, don't skip over the capital because there is more to Warsaw than meets the eye.
