The Lab LA is our weekly post-work party where we stream the finest American and international DJs from the terrace of Mixmag’s Hollywood office. This Friday we bring you KiNK and Ricoshëi.
KiNK is a widely-respected producer currently working in house music. His live sets and productions have captured fans and led him on multiple world tours, cementing his place as one of the most in-demand artists of the moment. This special DJ set in the Lab: LA comes ahead of a KiNK's North American tour.
He will be joined by LA-based lush house duo Ricoshëi. Nikko Gibler and Jake Patrick are well known for their ability to step it up and keep a crowd going and have plied their trade at the biggest clubs and festivals in the US including Coachella, SXSW and Lollapalooza, where they headlined the Palladia Stage. The boys have been climbing the ranks rapidly in 2014 and hit club charts with their single 'Perfect Like You', released on DJ Koze’s Pampa Records.

Here im using the Roland MX-1 digital mixer with analog gear, MFB 522 for drums and the rare Russian analog poly synth Tom 1501. The keyboard doesnt have any sequencing functions, memory or effects, so I`m animating the sound entirely with the MX-1. In order to have sustained sounds, I stick the keys with tape or just play them by hands. The slicing / pitching pattern in MX-1 was programmed before shooting the video. I didn`t programmed it during the session, just because I got that groove going, before i press record. I liked it so much and I decided to keep it for the video. I hope you like it too

I use Scooper as looper / sampler, I trigger Scooper`s sample start and Torcido`s LFO reset with TR-8`s rim shot. Rhodes piano as a sound source, drums - TR-8. KiNK's performances are a middle finger to live dance music's naysayers. The Bulgarian house artist shows the broad possibilities of the form by playing his assorted setup with the skill of a seasoned musician. Strahil Velchev's style blends DJ tricks with keyboard and controller manipulation. He also likes to involve the crowd, encouraging dancers in the front row to smash out patterns on his Novation Launchpad. It's one of the reasons he's been a permanent fixture in our best live acts poll in recent years. Velchev has a deep well of killer club tracks—"Bitter Sweet," "Detunator," "E79," "Express" etc—but when he stopped by RA's London HQ he combined "Source Of Uncertainty," a new track from his forthcoming debut album, with a stretch of improvisation. The resulting Session showed Velchev deep in his element.

KiNK with Roland MX-1, MFB 522 and Tom 1501
Here im using the Roland MX-1 digital mixer with analog gear, MFB 522 for drums and the rare Russian analog poly synth Tom 1501. The keyboard doesnt have any sequencing functions, memory or effects, so I`m animating the sound entirely with the MX-1. In order to have sustained sounds, I stick the keys with tape or just play them by hands. The slicing / pitching pattern in MX-1 was programmed before shooting the video. I didn`t programmed it during the session, just because I got that groove going, before i press record. I liked it so much and I decided to keep it for the video. I hope you like it too -

KiNK session with Roland AIRA modular (Torcido, Scooper), TR-8 and a Rhodes piano. I use Torcido as a preamp and tremollo effect on the Rhodes, also as a modulation source for Scooper. I use Scooper as looper / sampler, I trigger Scooper`s sample start and Torcido`s LFO reset with TR-8`s rim shot. Rhodes piano as a sound source, drums - TR-8. Here im using the Roland MX-1 digital mixer with analog gear, MFB 522 for drums and the rare Russian analog poly synth Tom 1501. The keyboard doesnt have any sequencing functions, memory or effects, so I`m animating the sound entirely with the MX-1. In order to have sustained sounds, I stick the keys with tape or just play them by hands. The slicing / pitching pattern in MX-1 was programmed before shooting the video. I didn`t programmed it during the session, just because I got that groove going, before i press record. I liked it so much and I decided to keep it for the video. I hope you like it too

The Bulgarian house artist shows the broad possibilities of the form by playing his assorted setup with the skill of a seasoned musician. Strahil Velchev's style blends DJ tricks with keyboard and controller manipulation. He also likes to involve the crowd, encouraging dancers in the front row to smash out patterns on his Novation Launchpad. It's one of the reasons he's been a permanent fixture in our best live acts poll in recent years. Velchev has a deep well of killer club tracks—"Bitter Sweet," "Detunator," "E79," "Express" etc—but when he stopped by RA's London HQ he combined "Source Of Uncertainty," a new track from his forthcoming debut album, with a stretch of improvisation. The resulting Session showed Velchev deep in his element.

If FACT TV has taught us one thing, its that our readers (or, erm, viewers) like to see how musicians make things.
Egyptian Lover playing his Roland TR-808 live through a hotel alarm clock is the most popular episode we've uploaded since our relaunch, while MPC demonstrations from AraabMUZIK and FunkinEven and a remix tutorial with MK aren't far behind. This prompted us to launch a new series, Against the Clock. The rules are very simple: in each episode, we'll take one of our favourite artists, and get them to make something there and then. They have 10 minutes to do so.
Against the Clock's third episode, following sessions with xxxy and Thefft, features KiNK. The Bulgarian producer has been breathing new life into classic dance music forms -- piano house, acid, loop techno -- for several years now, both in the studio and with his live set-up, and with him scheduled to play secretsundaze's Bank Holiday event this weekend, we asked him about taking on the challenge. Of course, KiNK being KiNK, he did things a little differently: he sent us a video, filmed by Boris Katzounov, of him using vinyl acapellas and his armoury of studio gear to show off what he does for his live show in five minutes -- because why bother with 10 when you're this smooth, right?

SEOUL. North Korea threatened "indiscriminate" nuclear strikes against South Korea and the US mainland if the two allies push ahead with joint military drills scheduled to begin today.
