Devil (Islam)

In Islam, the Devil is known as Iblīs (Arabic: إبليس‎, plural: ابالسة abālisah), Shayṭān (Arabic: شيطان‎, plural: شياطين shayāṭīn) or Shaitan. In Islam, Iblis is a jinn who refused to bow to Adam.

The primary characteristic of the Devil is hubris. His primary activity is to incite humans and jinn to commit evil through deception, which is referred to as "whispering into the hearts". The Quran mentions that Satans are the assistants of those who disbelieve in God: "We have made the evil ones friends to those without faith."

Namings and etymology

The term Iblis (Arabic: إِبْلِيس‎) is probably altered from Ancient Greek διάβολος (diábolos), also the ultimate source of English devil. Islamic tradition derives it from the Arabic verbal root بَلَسَ (balasa, "he despaired"). The term Shaytan (Arabic: شَيْطَان‎) has the same origin as Hebrew שָׂטָן (Sātān), source of the English Satan.

In popular Islamic culture, "Shaytan" (Arabic: شيطان‎), is often simply translated as "the Devil", but the term can refer to any of the jinn who disobey God and follow Iblīs. Some scholars are of the view that Iblīs is the father of all of the jinn, just as Adam is the father of all of humanity as mentioned in the Quran (sura 18, Al-Kahf), "Will you then take him and his progeny as protectors rather than Me? And they are enemies to you!"

Devil (Spanish: Diablo) is a 2011 Argentine drama film directed by Nicanor Loreti. The film won the award for Best Film in the Argentine Competition at the 2011 Mar del Plata Film Festival.

Characters

Players can choose from a diverse cast that hails from a variety of ethnic backgrounds and fighting styles. A few characters have supernatural origin, such as Devil and Ogre, while animal characters like Kuma the bear provide comic relief. In the story mode of the game, each character generally has their own personal reasons for entering the tournament and competing for the prize.

Only four characters have appeared as playable characters in all seven main Tekken installments to date: Heihachi Mishima, Yoshimitsu, Nina Williams, and Paul Phoenix. King have appeared in all seven main Tekken games with two different characters.

Two characters: Kazuya Mishima and Marshall Law also come close having appeared in six installments. Kuma have appeared as playable in six installments with two different characters, and Jack with six (Jack, Jack-2, Gun Jack, Jack-5, Jack-6 and Jack-7).

Hugo (game show)

Hugo (Danish: Skærmtrolden Hugo) was an interactive television show created by the Danish company Interactive Television Entertainment (ITE) in 1990. Since its premiere in TV2, this popular "live one-player multi platform interactive game show" has aired in more than 40 other countries and has seen multiple video games and other media and merchandise in its extended franchise.

Original program

Hugo was first aired on Danish national television TV2 in the program Eleva2ren in 1990, featuring a video game that was played by the audience via telephone connection. A player would call the show, then be prompted by a human host to control a cartoon character on the TV screen in several scenarios by pressing the number keys on the phone, assorted to the character controls. The show has been aired continuously for five years.

ITE developed a designated, custom-built computer hardware system called ITE 3000 that would convert telephone signals into remotely control the characters in the game and allow the interaction of the audience and the TV action without delay. The system was based on two Amiga 3000 computers plus a new audio control system MIDI sampler, the DTMF system and some other extra hardware, and reportedly costed $100,000 to make. ITE 3000 was later replaced by the PC-based ITE 4000, which used a real time motion capture system Animation Mask System (AMS) invented by Bjarne Sølvason (father of the ITE founder Ivan Sølvason) to transfer an actor's body/head/eye movements and facial expressions to Hugo's character on screen. The actor providing the voice of Hugo wore the helmet which contained sensors that could capture his facial expressions and translate them to the character, but all of the characters' body movements were pre-rendered. In 1996, ITE created new, 3D graphics for Hugo using Silicon Graphics machines. A new technology allowing the real-time 3D animation of Hugo was unveiled in 2006.

Hugo (film)

Hugo is a 2011 British-American-French 3D historical adventure drama film directed and co-produced by Martin Scorsese and adapted for the screen by John Logan. Based on Brian Selznick's novel The Invention of Hugo Cabret, it is about a boy who lives alone in the Gare Montparnasse railway station in Paris in the 1930s. A co-production between Graham King's GK Films and Johnny Depp's Infinitum Nihil, the film stars Ben Kingsley, Sacha Baron Cohen, Asa Butterfield, Chloë Grace Moretz, Ray Winstone, Emily Mortimer, Jude Law, Helen McCrory, and Christopher Lee.

Hugo is Scorsese's first film shot in 3D, of which the filmmaker remarked: "I found 3D to be really interesting, because the actors were more upfront emotionally. Their slightest move, their slightest intention is picked up much more precisely." The film was released in the United States on November 23, 2011.

Hugo grossed $185 million at the box office against a budget of $150 - $170 million. Hugo received eleven Academy Award nominations (including Best Picture), more than any other film that year, and won five awards: Best Cinematography, Best Art Direction, Best Sound Mixing, Best Sound Editing and Best Visual Effects. It was also nominated for eight BAFTAs, winning two, and was nominated for three Golden Globe Awards, earning Scorsese his third Golden Globe for Best Director.
