You see it's not really plain----but it's on the plains..... It's a place with, well....quite a history, but certainly not a place that's almost history,
but at first glance you're likely to overlook it if you blink just long enough. But, If you're paying attention, you'd see it ---- --between Dallas and Denver if you're driving a truck...maybe on a family vacation or on business
Look west on a clear day and you'd see the Rocky Mountains—just about 120 miles away. You'd already be over 5000 feet high, but the plains seem to stretch out forever.
You'd be on US Highways 287 /40 just about 14 miles south of the intersection with Interstate 70.
The highway runs parallel to the Union Pacific Railroad, typically hauling grain from farms near small towns like this one—taking wheat, corn and sunflower oil to market, across those endless plains to feed people who live a much faster, hectic life in larger cities—
---those who may never discover what 732 residents and retirees plus countless farmers and ranchers and their families nearby know about HUGO, Colorado—the Lincoln County Seat.
287 / 40 run right through downtown --all 10 blocks of it -- bordered on one side by a city park with a parallel parking lot big enough to share space several 18-wheelers, RVs, or the family SUVs and give you a chance for a cat nap, a potti break, a stretch or a place to enjoy a picnic lunch.---Even explore main street!
Across from the park you'll conveniently find the bank with an ATM
There's a restaurant, with more than a taste of local hospitality,
You'll find two of the four specialty antique and collectible shops in town,
There's a fully stocked local grocery store with nice people and an equally nice selection of fresh produce, and you'll find the local flavors of the town tavern, too.
Also on main street you'll find the lumber yard and hardware store a bit closer to the road than the grain elevator,
and just north of the park and west of the tracks, you'll see an old brick roundhouse---one of only two brick Union Pacific examples in Colorado---it's under renovation and will soon house an event center and a museum.
On one end of town, you'll notice the school—that just received a grant to expand into a 10-million dollar regional educational complex. It's just a block north of the only hotel get there early if you plan to get a room—(end of chuckle)-they go fast out here.
The County Fair Grounds is right there on the south-east end of town. It's home of the Colorado Championship Ranch Rodeo, The Lincoln County Fair, and other events throughout the year.
In between there and the school, you'll see the phone company offices and the city pool—you can't miss it--it's a blue and white art deco-style building, open to residents as well as visitors just-passin' through --you might just enjoy a refreshing dip
There's an old Union Pacific Passenger Depot that has been restored and moved and another city park built alongside just for kids---you'll see them both on the Northeast side of the highway.
Unless you do a little exploring, you're likely to miss the first class, regional medical facility with it's own heliport, plus the nearby assisted living facility.
Community churches dot the town and the neighborhoods hold some real gems
Lincoln County Court House and correctional complex----rounds out what at first seems like a quiet little town---- one that over two million cars and trucks pass through annually.

Residents of the small farming community of Hugo, Colorado have been warned to avoid drinking the town’s water. According to Reuters, authorities said on Thursday that THC, the psychoactive agent in marijuana, was found in one of its feeder wells. A public works employee detected the chemical and health officials believe it is “marijuana THC-related,” The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office said in a Facebook posting, “At this time, investigators are assessing the situation with state and federal authorities." Susan Kelly, the county’s public health director, said there were no reports of anyone falling ill or otherwise being affected by the tainted water. Hugo is a town of about 800 people, 90 miles southeast of Denver. Colorado allows both medical and recreational marijuana use. But it was unclear how THC got into the water, as there are no legal marijuana cultivation sites or dispensaries in the area.

Hugo, Colorado
Hugo is the Statutory Town that is the county seat of Lincoln County, Colorado, United States. The town population was 730 at the U.S. Census 2010.
History
In about 1859 the town was developed as a cattle ranching community to supply miners with provisions. The town was also used as a local stage coach stop.
There are two stories as to how the town obtained its name. One version says the town was named by the Kansas Pacific Railroad builders after pioneer stage agent (Overland company), Hugo Richards. Richards later moved to Prescott, Arizona where he became town banker and businessman.Another story says the town was named for Richard Hugo who was a local settler. The town was founded in 1870, and incorporated in 1909.
Geography
Hugo is located at 39°8′1″N 103°28′5″W / 39.13361°N 103.46806°W / 39.13361; -103.46806 (39.133520, -103.468089).
According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 1.0 square mile (2.6 km2), all of which is land. Hugo's elevation is 5,039 ft.

Colorado (
i/kɒləˈrædoʊ/, or /kɒləˈrɑːdoʊ/) (Spanish for "ruddy") is a state in the United States encompassing most of the Southern Rocky Mountains as well as the northeastern portion of the Colorado Plateau and the western edge of the Great Plains. Colorado is part of the Western United States, the Southwestern United States, and the Mountain States. Colorado is the 8th most extensive and the 22nd most populous of the 50 United States. County Fair
"County Fair" is a song written by Brian Wilson and Gary Usher for the American rock band The Beach Boys. It was originally released as the second track on their 1962 album Surfin' Safari. On November 26 of that year, it was released as the B-side to The Beach Boys' third single, "Ten Little Indians". The same single was released in the UK in January 1963.
The melody of "County Fair" was later recycled into the song "I Do".
Composition
"County Fair" was the second song Brian Wilson and Gary Usher wrote together. In the song, the singer takes his girlfriend to the county fair, where she leaves him for a stronger man; one who can ring the bell on a high striker game. The song culminates in the tag, as the girl leaves the singer, calling him a loser. The song is in verse-chorus form, though the choruses consist of spoken-word narration of the girlfriend and a carnival barker over an organ melody.
Recording
"County Fair" was recorded by The Beach Boys on September 6, 1962, during the last recording session for their first album, Surfin' Safari. Nik Venet produced the session at Capitol Studios.

but at first glance you're likely to overlook it if you blink just long enough. But, If you're paying attention, you'd see it ---- --between Dallas and Denver if you're driving a truck...maybe on a family vacation or on business
Look west on a clear day and you'd see the Rocky Mountains—just about 120 miles away. You'd already be over 5000 feet high, but the plains seem to stretch out forever.
You'd be on US Highways 287 /40 just about 14 miles south of the intersection with Interstate 70.
The highway runs parallel to the Union Pacific Railroad, typically hauling grain from farms near small towns like this one—taking wheat, corn and sunflower oil to market, across those endless plains to feed people who live a much faster, hectic life in larger cities—
---those who may never discover what 732 residents and retirees plus countless farmers and ranchers and their families nearby know about HUGO, Colorado—the Lincoln County Seat.
287 / 40 run right through downtown --all 10 blocks of it -- bordered on one side by a city park with a parallel parking lot big enough to share space several 18-wheelers, RVs, or the family SUVs and give you a chance for a cat nap, a potti break, a stretch or a place to enjoy a picnic lunch.---Even explore main street!
Across from the park you'll conveniently find the bank with an ATM
There's a restaurant, with more than a taste of local hospitality,
You'll find two of the four specialty antique and collectible shops in town,
There's a fully stocked local grocery store with nice people and an equally nice selection of fresh produce, and you'll find the local flavors of the town tavern, too.
Also on main street you'll find the lumber yard and hardware store a bit closer to the road than the grain elevator,
and just north of the park and west of the tracks, you'll see an old brick roundhouse---one of only two brick Union Pacific examples in Colorado---it's under renovation and will soon house an event center and a museum.
On one end of town, you'll notice the school—that just received a grant to expand into a 10-million dollar regional educational complex. It's just a block north of the only hotel get there early if you plan to get a room—(end of chuckle)-they go fast out here.
The County Fair Grounds is right there on the south-east end of town. It's home of the Colorado Championship Ranch Rodeo, The Lincoln County Fair, and other events throughout the year.
In between there and the school, you'll see the phone company offices and the city pool—you can't miss it--it's a blue and white art deco-style building, open to residents as well as visitors just-passin' through --you might just enjoy a refreshing dip
There's an old Union Pacific Passenger Depot that has been restored and moved and another city park built alongside just for kids---you'll see them both on the Northeast side of the highway.
Unless you do a little exploring, you're likely to miss the first class, regional medical facility with it's own heliport, plus the nearby assisted living facility.
Community churches dot the town and the neighborhoods hold some real gems

Our Story
Life is crazy! The tide smashes even the best-laid plans to sand… and so it goes!
This is a story about two people, who met by chance, were bound by fate and who continue to let the quirky side of life guide their paths! How else could a young man from a tiny town in Albania and a farm girl from the mountains of Montana meet in the middle, with a life guided by adventure?
We met in Rome. Engjell was a waiter in a little Roman restaurant down by Trevi Fountain and I was a student abroad, spending a year in the Eternal City. There are some pretty cheesy movies about the giggly American girl meeting the handsome foreigner abroad, who then spend all their time bombing around ancient ruins on a shiny moped, hair blowing in the wind and smiles from ear to ear. And yet… serendipity delivers! We did fall in love and he did have a moped…
In 2006, we moved back to the United States. We returned as a family of three, as little Fiona had been born in Rome at FateBeneFratelli, the hospital on an island… where all the Roman babies have been born for centuries! We moved often, looking for the perfect place. In 2010, we found an opportunity to open our own restaurant in Bigfork, Montana. We spent seven years and thousands of hours bringing the flavors of Italy to rural Montana. We were doing well! We were successful and busy and had finally bought our own home… we had a mortgage and car payments and a full-time, ultra-demanding job! We opened a second restaurant! We even added two more family members with the addition of Hugo and Remy!
We were living the dream! Or were we? On the outside, it looked like we had it all… that success had reached out its hand and we had graciously accepted. But in reality, we were working 80-100 hours each per week, we rarely saw our three beautiful kids who knew the nanny better than they did us, and we were burned out… from too much work, from too little time spent together as a family, from life! We had bought into the well-oiled idea of success and were realizing quickly the fatal flaws in our plan.
So we decided, together, to give it all up! We took the giant, terrifying, leap and sold it all to travel on a shoestring budget and let life teach us again, teach us anew, of what it looks like to be a successful human being! We are just beginning on this wonderful adventure! We have been traveling the U.S. for a year as a family in a motorhome. We are every day astounded by the diversity and creativity of both humans and Mother Nature. In July, we will set off for a one year trip around the world!
This time, too, food and wine lead our adventure. We hope to dig deep into every culture as we go, unearthing culinary tradition everywhere we go! We plan to travel to places where we can stage and work in restaurants and vineyards to learn more and to ultimately be able to take what we have learned and start fresh…inspired, changed… wherever we end up.
This trip is about re-defining success! It is about food and wine…about a plate of pasta or a shared bottle of wine, about experiences! It is about family and figuring out how we all fit together and what life’s REAL plan for us is! We invite you to join us in this crazy adventure as we travel the world!

Our Story
Life is crazy! The tide smashes even the best-laid plans to sand… and so it goes!
This is a story about two people, who met by chance, were bound by fate and who continue to let the quirky side of life guide their paths! How else could a young man from a tiny town in Albania and a farm girl from the mountains of Montana meet in the middle, with a life guided by adventure?
We met in Rome. Engjell was a waiter in a little Roman restaurant down by Trevi Fountain and I was a student abroad, spending a year in the Eternal City. There are some pretty cheesy movies about the giggly American girl meeting the handsome foreigner abroad, who then spend all their time bombing around ancient ruins on a shiny moped, hair blowing in the wind and smiles from ear to ear. And yet… serendipity delivers! We did fall in love and he did have a moped…
In 2006, we moved back to the United States. We returned as a family of three, as little Fiona had been born in Rome at FateBeneFratelli, the hospital on an island… where all the Roman babies have been born for centuries! We moved often, looking for the perfect place. In 2010, we found an opportunity to open our own restaurant in Bigfork, Montana. We spent seven years and thousands of hours bringing the flavors of Italy to rural Montana. We were doing well! We were successful and busy and had finally bought our own home… we had a mortgage and car payments and a full-time, ultra-demanding job! We opened a second restaurant! We even added two more family members with the addition of Hugo and Remy!
We were living the dream! Or were we? On the outside, it looked like we had it all… that success had reached out its hand and we had graciously accepted. But in reality, we were working 80-100 hours each per week, we rarely saw our three beautiful kids who knew the nanny better than they did us, and we were burned out… from too much work, from too little time spent together as a family, from life! We had bought into the well-oiled idea of success and were realizing quickly the fatal flaws in our plan.
So we decided, together, to give it all up! We took the giant, terrifying, leap and sold it all to travel on a shoestring budget and let life teach us again, teach us anew, of what it looks like to be a successful human being! We are just beginning on this wonderful adventure! We have been traveling the U.S. for a year as a family in a motorhome. We are every day astounded by the diversity and creativity of both humans and Mother Nature. In July, we will set off for a one year trip around the world!
This time, too, food and wine lead our adventure. We hope to dig deep into every culture as we go, unearthing culinary tradition everywhere we go! We plan to travel to places where we can stage and work in restaurants and vineyards to learn more and to ultimately be able to take what we have learned and start fresh…inspired, changed… wherever we end up.

They had been around during the Proclamation of the Republic and even designed the national flag, but only a few in Brazil are aware of the historical significance of the Positivists – the followers of the doctrine created in the nineteenth century by the French philosopher Auguste Comte.
Brazil, home of samba and football, home of Christ the Redeemer and Candomblé, is the unlikely place where we can find alive the legacy of a thinker who believed in the liberating power of scientific knowledge.
Regarded as the founder of Sociology, Comte believed that the world could only be explained by science and that faith would be replaced by reason.
Comte rejected supernatural deity, but nevertheless saw religion as an important instrument to unite people around a common idea, as well as a moral order, against the anarchy of selfishness.
Based on universal love and his own newly invented concept of "altruism", Comte founded the Religion of Humanity.
In his vision he saw the Temples of Humanity built around the world, but that only happened in Brazil, in the cities of Rio de Janeiro and Porto Alegre.
"The Last Religion" is a documentary that traces Positivism in Brazil since its inception until the present day.
Filmed in Rio de Janeiro and Porto Alegre, "The Last Religion" introduces the ideas and the people who still believe in a world dominated by knowledge and selflessness as means to combat the two of the greatest global problems: religious fundamentalism and capitalism's closed horizons.

Our Story
Life is crazy! The tide smashes even the best-laid plans to sand… and so it goes!
This is a story about two people, who met by chance, were bound by fate and who continue to let the quirky side of life guide their paths! How else could a young man from a tiny town in Albania and a farm girl from the mountains of Montana meet in the middle, with a life guided by adventure?
We met in Rome. Engjell was a waiter in a little Roman restaurant down by Trevi Fountain and I was a student abroad, spending a year in the Eternal City. There are some pretty cheesy movies about the giggly American girl meeting the handsome foreigner abroad, who then spend all their time bombing around ancient ruins on a shiny moped, hair blowing in the wind and smiles from ear to ear. And yet… serendipity delivers! We did fall in love and he did have a moped…
In 2006, we moved back to the United States. We returned as a family of three, as little Fiona had been born in Rome at FateBeneFratelli, the hospital on an island… where all the Roman babies have been born for centuries! We moved often, looking for the perfect place. In 2010, we found an opportunity to open our own restaurant in Bigfork, Montana. We spent seven years and thousands of hours bringing the flavors of Italy to rural Montana. We were doing well! We were successful and busy and had finally bought our own home… we had a mortgage and car payments and a full-time, ultra-demanding job! We opened a second restaurant! We even added two more family members with the addition of Hugo and Remy!
We were living the dream! Or were we? On the outside, it looked like we had it all… that success had reached out its hand and we had graciously accepted. But in reality, we were working 80-100 hours each per week, we rarely saw our three beautiful kids who knew the nanny better than they did us, and we were burned out… from too much work, from too little time spent together as a family, from life! We had bought into the well-oiled idea of success and were realizing quickly the fatal flaws in our plan.
So we decided, together, to give it all up! We took the giant, terrifying, leap and sold it all to travel on a shoestring budget and let life teach us again, teach us anew, of what it looks like to be a successful human being! We are just beginning on this wonderful adventure! We have been traveling the U.S. for a year as a family in a motorhome. We are every day astounded by the diversity and creativity of both humans and Mother Nature. In July, we will set off for a one year trip around the world!
This time, too, food and wine lead our adventure. We hope to dig deep into every culture as we go, unearthing culinary tradition everywhere we go! We plan to travel to places where we can stage and work in restaurants and vineyards to learn more and to ultimately be able to take what we have learned and start fresh…inspired, changed… wherever we end up.
This trip is about re-defining success! It is about food and wine…about a plate of pasta or a shared bottle of wine, about experiences! It is about family and figuring out how we all fit together and what life’s REAL plan for us is! We invite you to join us in this crazy adventure as we travel the world!

Steve Lee, retired from Union Pacific RR December 31, 2010, was the guest presenter at Hugo Roundhouse Restoration meeting in Hugo, Colorado, Sunday, March 13, 2011. His program covered the UP Steam Heritage program which he was involved oversaw during his career. Over 50 folks from around Colorado converged on the eastern prairie town along the former Kansas Pacific line (UP's Limon Subdivision). Constructed in 1909, the Hugo Union Pacific Railroad Roundhouse is one of only three remaining from the original pre-merger Union Pacific Railroad, with this being the only one in Colorado. It's one of only four historic roundhouses left in Colorado and the only one associated with the Union Pacific Railroad. It's also the only surviving brick roundhouse in the state and one of the most significant historical sites on Colorado's Central Plains.
Roundhouse Preservation, Inc. (RPI), a 501(c)(3) located in Lincoln County, Colorado received its non-profit status on March 20, 2002. Its focus is the preservation and restoration of the Union Pacific Railroad roundhouse in Hugo, Colorado. Even though the roundhouse is owned by Lincoln County, RPI has taken the lead in preservation of this historic structure.
To date, RPI has received three State Historical Fund grants to begin restoration of the roundhouse. Along with a grant received by Lincoln County, the roundhouse has been shored up and is no longer in imminent danger of collapse. The exterior masonry work has been completed, the engineering for replacement of the roof is in progress, and once that is completed the latest grant will be used to reconstruct the roof over two of the eight bays on the roundhouse.
At the meeting, members will transact any necessary business, including renewing memberships and electing three members to the R P I Board of Directors. The seat now held by Roxie Devers will be filled for a three-year term, and the seat held by Lian Emmerling will be filled for a one-year term. Both incumbents are candidates for reelection. A third director will be elected for a two-year term to replace Kate Piskorski, who resigned February 7. The only known candidate for the post as of this writing is Dee Ann Blevins, who previously served on the Board for seven years, before resigning in December 2009.
The members of RPI want to thank everyone who has helped us get to this point. We look forward to working with the CDOT staff involved in the project, Nan Rickey with the State Historical Fund, David Wittman with Martin/Martin Engineers, historic architect Merrill Wilson, and the Lincoln County Commissioners in successfully completing this project. On this day, 22 November 1755, Shubal Stearns, Daniel Marshall and fourteen others founded the Sandy Creek Baptist Church in North Carolina.
November 22, 1873, Horatio Spafford's four daughters are drowned in a shipping accident when the French ship Ville du Havre sinks.
Dorothy Fay Davis was appointed to Nazarene missionary service on November 22, 1939. Born in Hugo, Colorado, on March 29, 1912. Raised in a Christian home, she spent the majority of her childhood in Alhambra, California. She graduated from Pasadena College (now Point Loma Nazarene University) in 1934. She got her hands on training at Nazarene the Samaritan Hospital in Nampa, Idaho. She then completed her bachelor of science degree at Northwest Nazarene College, also in Nampa.
