Alanis Nadine Morissette (born June 1, 1974) is a Canadian-Americanalternative rock singer-songwriter, guitarist, record producer, and actress. Morissette began her career in Canada when she signed a two-album recording contract with MCA Records Canada where she released two commercially successful dance-pop albums, Alanis (1991) and Now Is the Time (1992). Following the release of the albums Morissette left MCA Records Canada and was introduced to manager Scott Welch. Morissette began working on new music, after moving from her hometown of Ottawa to Toronto, but did not make much progress until travelling to Los Angeles, where she met Glen Ballard.
Together the pair began creating what would become Jagged Little Pill, and by the spring of 1995, she had signed a deal with Maverick Records. Jagged Little Pill was a departure from Morissette's previous work and featured rock genres. Released in 1995 Jagged Little Pill was a huge success and sold more than 33 million units globally. Her following album, Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie, was released in 1998.
Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie is the fourth studio album and second internationally released album by singer-songwriter Alanis Morissette, released by Maverick Records in the United States on November 3, 1998.
After the massive success of Jagged Little Pill (1995), Morissette was considered one of the biggest music stars in the world, and many fans anxiously awaited a follow-up album. A dark and wandering album, the mystery of Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie began on its cover, with an image of Alanis's mouth while laughing and the following text printed over that image that refers to The Eight Precepts of Buddhism.
Morissette wrote "Thank U" and "Baba" after her trip to India in 1997. The protagonist of "Baba" goes on a spiritual pilgrimage to India where she encounters a guru who, like many spiritual teachers in India, is referred to as "Baba". The word "Baba" means "father" in the Hindi language. Morissette opened most of shows during the Junkie era with the song, and it was featured as an opener during her 2002 tours. It has been seldom played since then. "Baba" opened Morissette's performance on the television show MTV Unplugged in 1999, but it was excluded from the CD release Alanis Unplugged. Another live version of "Baba" was released on the No Boundaries: A Benefit for the Kosovar Refugees CD.
"So Pure" is a rock song written and produced by Alanis Morissette and Glen Ballard for Morissette's fourth album Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie (1998). While it was released in Japan during the spring of 1999 as the second single, it was released internationally as the album's third single on June 14, 1999 (see 1999 in music), and it is uptempo and reminiscent in sound to the dance-pop music Morissette recorded before her third album Jagged Little Pill (1995). One line in the song, "supposed former infatuation junkie", inspired its album's title. The single was released to U.S. radio stations on June 29 and received little play, peaking outside the top twenty on Billboard magazine's Adult Top 40 and Top 40 Mainstream charts. "So Pure" failed to chart on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and performed moderately in the United Kingdom, where it reached the top forty. A special 'radio friendly remix' was featured on US promotional singles and was only commercially released on the Australian domestic single.
"Thank U" is a song by Canadian recording artist and songwriter Alanis Morissette, for her fourth studio album Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie (1998). The song was written by Alanis Morissette and Glen Ballard, who produced her previous album. Morissette wrote the song after she came back from India.
The song received generally positive reviews from music critics and also performed well in the record charts, peaking in the top ten in several countries. An accompanying music video was released for the single, featuring Morissette nude in different streets in Los Angeles. It received generally positive reviews from music critics, but received mild controversy, due to nudity in the video. It was nominated for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance at the 2000 Grammy Awards.
After the massive success of her breakthrough album Jagged Little Pill (1995) (which spawned the worldwide hits, "You Oughta Know", "Ironic", "Head over Feet" and "You Learn"), Morissette was considered one of the biggest music stars in the world, and many fans anxiously awaited a follow-up album. During a trip to India, in 1997, Alanis wrote some songs, including "Thank U". In 1998, Morissette contributed with the song "Uninvited" for the soundtrack of the 1998 film City of Angels.

alanis morissette all i really want from the jagged little pill album
Like anyone would be I am flattered by your fascination with me Like any hot blooded woman I have simply wanted an object to crave But you, youre not allowed Youre uninvited An unfortunate slight Must be strangely exciting To watch the stoic squirm Must be somewhat heartening To watch shepard meet shepard But you, youre not allowed Youre uninvited An unfortunate slight Like any uncharted territory I must seem greatly intriguing You speak of my love like You have experienced love like mine before But this is not allowed Youre uninvited An unfortunate slight I dont think you unworthy I need a moment to deliberate

We have slaughtered
In the garden of beauty
Digging graves instead of planting
Mercy for the crucified
A bitter justice
Begging eternity for love
We're nothing
We're everything
I am nothing
Yet I am everybody
We're nothing
And yet we are
Wisdom lights up life's road
I know you
