According to MIT…Mid-size companies, that’s businesses with 10 to 99 employees… generate 35% of jobs nationally. And…these companies are better at creating middle class jobs in high-skilled areas. But as Simon Thompson reports…New Mexico economic initiatives are NOT focused on supporting the growth of these companies. New Mexico has been one of the states slowest to bounce back from the recession….. That could be because the state’s primary approach to economic growth has been using incentives and tax exemptions to lure big business. NMSU economist Doctor Chris Erickson says the state is moving in the wrong direction. “Economic development is an ocean liner and you are steering the ocean liner and right now Las Cruces and New Mexico is generally I think is steering towards the rocks...

According to the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill about 44 percent of people living with a mental illness have been arrested at least once in their life. With resources lacking to treat mental illness, many wind up in the criminal justice system. According to Doña Ana County Detention Center Director Chris Barela, He estimates that around 33-57% of people in the detention center are suffering from some form of mental illness. He says a lack of mental health resources leads many to end up behind bars. “What we find is that the people that are coming into the jail are coming in in such a disorganized chaotic way,” Barela said. “That we have to stabilize them and get them back to a stability point. That’s occurring because outside the jail before they get to us they are not receiving...

Las Cruces live @ Hi-Tones - San Antonio Music Festival September 2016 San Antonio TX
Hello and welcome to my first video of Cities:Skylines (Las Cruz city). This would be the 4th city I start, I'm aiming for a chaotic, organic design, away from the classical grid. In this episode, however, I'm creating an area of the city that is considered old, in other words, a cluster of unplanned/improvised roads that have developed efficient public transport and pedestrian/bike paths to reduce traffic congestion. Music: Garden Music Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com)
Hello& welcome to the 2nd part of City: Las Cruces. The city is growing quickly and it's time to expand! I did a little bit of landscaping here and there to make sure the expansion looks natural, there are some parts that look a little bit forced. When I was recording I was struggling with the themes and the result... well, let's just say the city has adopted the eclectic style for now. Hello and welcome to Las Cruces part 3. I fixed the themes so the eclectic style shouldn't be a thing anymore. Well, maybe for the low populated areas. Things done in this video: a university and commercial complex, extension of the low pop area, lots of terraforming and the road network for the a next high pop area. The low pop zone development is going smooth (I want to extend it a bit more). Parks, schools, commercial, a small industrial complex, the graveyard and even a train station are all within pedestrian reach thus greatly reducing the need of cars. Hello & welcome to Las Cruces, part 8. In this video I'll be finishing the industrial area that's in between 2 major residential disctricts, expect trucks, tons of trucks. After this I've been thinking about making the railroad network which will be challenging now that the city has been build and is not easy to move things around, but is a must to have once the industrial boom happens. On the rest of the video you'll see the creation of Riverside disctrict, which is all about residential only and a little bit of commercial here and there, this is still not finished since there are many details to be added, as the usual, expect a lot of trees, some rocks and a lot more houses and apartments. That's it for now, I hope you enjoy and thanks for watching! Twitter: @fretaws -----------------...

Live from the Field of Dreams. New Mexico High School Football.
