World Cup 1962 Final - Brazil 3:1 Czechoslovakia
0:1 Josef Masopust (15.) 1:1 Amarildo (17.) 2:1 Zito (68.) 3:1 Vava (77.) The 1962 World Cup Final was contested by Czechoslovakia and Brazil. Brazil won the game 3-1 to record their second consecutive World Cup victory. Santiago's Estadio Nacional served as the venue for the final itself, and after 15 minutes, Brazil again found themselves a goal behind in the World Cup final, as a long ball from Adolf Scherer was latched onto by Josef Masopust: 10 Czechoslovakia. However, just like the previous final four years earlier, Brazil soon hit back, equalising two minutes later through Amarildo after an error by the hitherto flawless Czechoslovak goalkeeper Schrojf. The Brazilians did not stop there and with goals from Zito and Vavá (another Schrojf error) mid-way through the second half, the Czechoslovaks just couldn't get back into the game. The match ended 31 to Brazil, a successful defence of the title for only the second time in the history of the competition in spite of the absence of their star player of 1958, Pelé. www.wikipedia.org

Quotes about the King of Football Pele from Tostao, Facchetti, Pepe, Menotti, Zito, Dino Sani, Didi, Henry Kissinger, John Huston, Gordon Banks, Rattin, Franz Beckenbauer, Carlos Alberto, Mario Zagallo, Carlos Alberto Pareira, Jair, Paulo Cesar Quotes from Wikipedia and FIFA Official Website: www.fifa.com www.fifa.com -Bobby Moore: "Pele was the most complete player I've ever seen, he had everything. Two good feet. Magic in the air. Quick. Powerful. Could beat people with skill. Could outrun people. Only 5ft 8in tall, yet he seemed a giant of an athlete on the pitch. Perfect balance and impossible vision. He was the greatest because he could do anything and everything on a football pitch. I remember Saldhana the coach being asked by a Brazilian journalist who was the best goalkeeper in his squad. He said Pele. The man could play in any position." -Ferenc Puskas: "The greatest player in history was Di Stefano. I refuse to classify Pele as a player. He was above that." -Romario: "Messi has all the conditions to be the best, but first he has to beat Maradona, Romario and then eventually Pele." -Costa Pereira: "I arrived hoping to stop a great man, but I went away convinced I had been undone by someone who was not born on the same planet as the rest of us." -Michel Platini: "There's Pele the man, and then Pele the player. And to play like Pele is to play like God." -Eusebio: "Pele played in an era which had so many great players and in that atmosphere he stood out above the ...
