STORYLINE:
U.S. marines pushed deeper into the strategic Helmand province town of Dahaneh, Afghanistan, for a fourth straight day on Saturday, meeting fierce Taliban resistance as surface-to-surface missiles and Harrier fighter jets pounded insurgent positions in the surrounding hills.
The marines launched a pre-dawn raid against a Taliban position on the southern edge of the town, storming a fortified compound and then blowing up two towers from which insurgents fired rockets and mortars at U.S. troops the day before.
Marines found marijuana plants growing in the courtyard and confiscated trigger plates used to manufacture roadside bombs.
U.S. troops launched an assault on Dahaneh early Wednesday, hoping to disrupt Taliban supply lines in the Now Zad valley and establish Afghan government control over an area held by the Taliban for years.
Footage shot by AP Television embedded with U.S. military showed marines storming the compound as suspected Taliban fled the scene.
Captain Zachary Martin, Commander of the 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marines, Golf Company, said local residents in the area were "upset" at the death of a man who reportedly was killed in the fire fight the night before.
"They said he was killed in a fire fight or crossfire last night, they are very upset," Martin said.
Martin added that the marines offered to go recover the body with the residents, but the latter didn't want the marines to go with them.
"My suspicion is that they don't want us to go with them because they're concerned we'll go with them and find a body with weapons associated with it," Martin said.
A Taliban spokesman claimed responsibility for the explosion.
It was the biggest insurgent attack in Kabul in six months.

STORYLINE
US-backed Iraqi soldiers raided a home in southeastern Baghdad before dawn on Wednesday, killing two men inside and arresting an Iraqi soldier from an intelligence unit, police and a witness said.
The raid took place in Zafaraniyah, a predominantly Shiite district of the capital, a police officer said, speaking on condition of anonymity because he was not authorised to release the information.
A brother of one the men killed said he had no idea what might have prompted the raid, which he called a "crime."
The brother, who only wanted to be identified by his nickname, Abu Mustafa, because of security concerns, lives next door to the house that was targeted. He said the man who was arrested is his cousin.
He said the sound of an explosion woke him around 2 am (2300 GMT on Tuesday) local time and he rushed to his door and saw Iraqi and American troops cordoning off the area. Then he heard shots being fired.
Another grieving relative said that troops "surrounded the house and then blasted it with grenades". She said she did not know who the soldiers were.
The US and Iraqi militaries had no immediate comment on the raid.
According to a US-Iraqi security pact that went into effect January 1, US forces no longer operate freely in Iraq and must coordinate their activities with Iraqi forces.
Although their combat role in Iraq has shrunk, US forces can still take part in raids or patrols alongside their Iraqi counterparts, sometimes in the role of trainers or providing intelligence.

During the late 1960s and early 1970s, New Zealand's economy had declined due to several international developments: a decline in international wool prices in 1966, Britain joining the European Economic Community in 1973 which deprived NZ of a major market for dairy products, and the 1973 oil crisis. This economic downturn led to increased crime, unemployment and other social ailments, which disproportionately affected the Pacific Islander community.

Law enforcement in France has a long history dating back to AD 570, when night watch systems were commonplace. Policing is centralized at the national level. Recently, legislation has allowed local governments to hire their own police officers which are called the "police municipale".
There are two national police forces called "Police nationale" and "Gendarmerie nationale". The Prefecture of Police of Paris which provides policing services directly to Paris as a subdivision of France's Ministry of the Interior. Within these national forces only certain designated police officers have the power to conduct criminal investigations which are supervised by investigative magistrates.

In motion picture terminology, the term tracking shot may refer to a shot in which the camera is mounted on a camera dolly, a wheeled platform that is pushed on rails while the picture is being taken; in this case the shot is also known as a dolly shot or trucking shot. One may dolly in on a stationary subject for emphasis, or dolly out, or dolly beside a moving subject (an action known as "dolly with").
The term may also refer to any shot in which the camera follows a subject within the frame, such as a moving actor or a moving vehicle. When using the term tracking shot in this sense, the camera may be moved in ways not involving a camera dolly, such as via a Steadicam, via handheld camera operator, or by being panned on a tripod.

The raid took place in Zafaraniyah, a predominantly Shiite district of the capital, a police officer said, speaking on condition of anonymity because he was not authorised to release the information. A brother of one the men killed said he had no idea what might have prompted the raid, which he called a "crime." The brother, who only wanted to be identified by his nickname, Abu Mustafa, because of security concerns, lives next door to the house that was targeted. He said the man who was arrested is his cousin. He said the sound of an explosion woke him around 2 am (2300 GMT on Tuesday) local time and he rushed to his door and saw Iraqi and American troops cordoning off the area. Then he heard shots being fired. Another grieving relative said that troops "surrounded the house and then blasted it with grenades". She said she did not know who the soldiers were. The US and Iraqi militaries had no immediate comment on the raid. According to a US-Iraqi security pact that went into effect January 1, US forces no longer operate freely in Iraq and must coordinate their activities with Iraqi forces. U.S. marines pushed deeper into the strategic Helmand province town of Dahaneh, Afghanistan, for a fourth straight day on Saturday, meeting fierce Taliban resistance as surface-to-surface missiles and Harrier fighter jets pounded insurgent positions in the surrounding hills.
The marines launched a pre-dawn raid against a Taliban position on the southern edge of the town, storming a fortified compound and then blowing up two towers from which insurgents fired rockets and mortars at U.S. troops the day before.
Marines found marijuana plants growing in the courtyard and confiscated trigger plates used to manufacture roadside bombs.
U.S. troops launched an assault on Dahaneh early Wednesday, hoping to disrupt Taliban supply lines in the Now Zad valley and establish Afghan government control over an area held by the Taliban for years.
Footage shot by AP Television embedded with U.S. military showed marines storming the compound as suspected Taliban fled the scene.
Captain Zachary Martin, Commander of the 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marines, Golf Company, said local residents in the area were "upset" at the death of a man who reportedly was killed in the fire fight the night before.
"They said he was killed in a fire fight or crossfire last night, they are very upset," Martin said.
Martin added that the marines offered to go recover the body with the residents, but the latter didn't want the marines to go with them.
"My suspicion is that they don't want us to go with them because they're concerned we'll go with them and find a body with weapons associated with it," Martin said.
A Taliban spokesman claimed responsibility for the explosion.
It was the biggest insurgent attack in Kabul in six months.

NATO-led peacekeepers moved to take control of a Serb-run mining complex in the northern part of Kosovo early on Monday amid claims that the mines were polluting the area.
The mines, historically a source of employment for the area, had a record of excluding ethnic Albanians from working there.
The pre-dawn raid is likely to heighten tensions in a region already renowned as the most violence-prone city in Kosovo.
In a pre-dawn raid on Monday, NATO-led peacekeepers moved to take control of a Serb-run mining complex that U-N officials said was polluting the air with lead in the northern part of Kosovo.
British soldiers supporting the U-N mission moved to within metres of the complex before being stopped on a foot bridge leading into the facility.
Many of the NATO-led soldiers wore face masks to battle thick black smoke that belched from the ageing chimney stacks.
Negotiations were underway to take full control of the lead smelter.
Last week, U-N officials stated that the plant was spewing pollution into the air, raising lead levels to 200 times the accepted World Health Organization norms.
However, Kosovo Serb leader Oliver Ivanovic claimed the lead scare was a ruse being used for the United Nations to take over the Zvecan plant.
The smelter is part of the vast Trepca mining complex, a collection of about 40 mines that produce gold, silver, lead, zinc and cadmium.
Trepca is an emotional symbol for the people of this southern Serb province, who are struggling to rebuild after a 78-day NATO air war aimed at forcing Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic to end his repression of ethnic Albanians.
The main source of employment for Serbs in the industrial north until last year, Trepca's mines were one of Yugoslavia's leading export industries in the 1990s.
Ethnic Albanians were fired from the mine after labour unrest in 1989 - unrest which became a catalyst for the start of a decade of repression under Milosevic.
Kosovska Mitrovica, located 25 miles (40 kilometres) from the provincial capital, Pristina, has proved the most violence-prone city in Kosovo and is one of the few in the province in which a significant Serb population remains.

US-backed Iraqi soldiers raided a home in southeastern Baghdad before dawn on Wednesday, killing two men inside and arresting an Iraqi soldier from an intelligence unit, police and a witness said.
The raid took place in Zafaraniyah, a predominantly Shiite district of the capital, a police officer said, speaking on condition of anonymity because he was not authorised to release the information.
A brother of one the men killed said he had no idea what might have prompted the raid, which he called a "crime."
The brother, who only wanted to be identified by his nickname, Abu Mustafa, because of security concerns, lives next door to the house that was targeted. He said the man who was arrested is his cousin.
He said the sound of an explosion woke him around 2 am (2300 GMT on Tuesday) local time and he rushed to his door and saw Iraqi and American troops cordoning off the area. Then he heard shots being fired.
Another grieving relative said that troops "surrounded the house and then blasted it with grenades". She said she did not know who the soldiers were.
The US and Iraqi militaries had no immediate comment on the raid.
According to a US-Iraqi security pact that went into effect January 1, US forces no longer operate freely in Iraq and must coordinate their activities with Iraqi forces.
Although their combat role in Iraq has shrunk, US forces can still take part in raids or patrols alongside their Iraqi counterparts, sometimes in the role of trainers or providing intelligence.

U.S. marines pushed deeper into the strategic Helmand province town of Dahaneh, Afghanistan, for a fourth straight day on Saturday, meeting fierce Taliban resistance as surface-to-surface missiles and Harrier fighter jets pounded insurgent positions in the surrounding hills.
The marines launched a pre-dawn raid against a Taliban position on the southern edge of the town, storming a fortified compound and then blowing up two towers from which insurgents fired rockets and mortars at U.S. troops the day before.
Marines found marijuana plants growing in the courtyard and confiscated trigger plates used to manufacture roadside bombs.
U.S. troops launched an assault on Dahaneh early Wednesday, hoping to disrupt Taliban supply lines in the Now Zad valley and establish Afghan government control over an area held by the Taliban for years.
Footage shot by AP Television embedded with U.S. military showed marines storming the compound as suspected Taliban fled the scene.
Captain Zachary Martin, Commander of the 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marines, Golf Company, said local residents in the area were "upset" at the death of a man who reportedly was killed in the fire fight the night before.
"They said he was killed in a fire fight or crossfire last night, they are very upset," Martin said.
Martin added that the marines offered to go recover the body with the residents, but the latter didn't want the marines to go with them.
"My suspicion is that they don't want us to go with them because they're concerned we'll go with them and find a body with weapons associated with it," Martin said.
A Taliban spokesman claimed responsibility for the explosion.
It was the biggest insurgent attack in Kabul in six months.

Resentment over the U-N raid on a Serb-run mining complex on Monday has led to tension as angry Serbs rallied to confront U-N personnel at the complex.
In a pre-dawn raid on Monday, NATO-led peacekeepers moved to take control of the complex that U-N officials said was polluting the air with 200 times the safe level of lead.
With resentment mounting, KFOR troops have blocked all roads leading to the mine area.
Serb civilians are also blocking roads.
Some have been throwing stones at French police.
Earlier in the day, NATO-led soldiers, many wearing face masks, approached the complex but were stopped at a footbridge leading into the facility.
Negotiations are currently underway to take full control of the lead smelter.
Last week, U-N officials stated that the plant was spewing pollution into the air, raising lead levels to 200 times the accepted World Health Organization norms.
However, Kosovo Serb leader Oliver Ivanovic claimed the lead scare was a ruse being used for the United Nations to take over the Zvecan plant.

"People are upset because they do not have the right information on what is happening out there in Trepca. This morning KFOR took over Trepca and closed everything. We will try to calm the people and now we are in negotiation with UNMIK. We are not going to allow the Serb workers to be ousted from their jobs and we will not allow the Albanians from the north (of Mitrovica) to cross here. They want to destroy all the work that we have done over the last 14 months."

The smelter is part of the vast Trepca mining complex, a collection of about 40 mines that produce gold, silver, lead, zinc and cadmium.
Trepca is an emotional symbol for the people of this southern Serb province, who are struggling to rebuild after a 78-day NATO air war aimed at forcing Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic to end his repression of ethnic Albanians.
Authorities are worried that violence may flare.
Minor incidents involving Serb aggression against U-N personnel have already been reported.

The main source of employment for Serbs in the industrial north until last year, Trepca's mines were one of Yugoslavia's leading export industries in the 1990s.
Ethnic Albanians were fired from the mine after labour unrest in 1989 - unrest which became a catalyst for the start of a decade of repression under Milosevic.
Kosovska Mitrovica, located 25 miles (40 kilometres) from the provincial capital, Pristina, has proved the most violence-prone city in Kosovo and is one of the few in the province in which a significant Serb population remains.
The U-N has run Kosovo since NATO forces expelled Serb troops last year in the wake of a 78-day bombing campaign and is in charge of all former state property in the province, such as the Trepca group.
Serbs dispute the U-N's presence and its right to direct operations at Trepca.

STORYLINE
US-backed Iraqi soldiers raided a home in southeastern Baghdad before dawn on Wednesday, killing two men inside and arresting an Iraqi soldier from an intelligence unit, police and a witness said.
The raid took place in Zafaraniyah, a predominantly Shiite district of the capital, a police officer said, speaking on condition of anonymity because he was not authorised to release the information.
A brother of one the men killed said he had no idea what might have prompted the raid, which he called a "crime."
The brother, who only wanted to be identified by his nickname, Abu Mustafa, because of security concerns, lives next door to the house that was targeted. He said the man who was arrested is his cousin.
He said the sound of an explosion woke him around 2 am (2300 GMT on Tuesday) local time and he rushed to his door and saw Iraqi and American troops cordoning off the area. Then he heard shots being fired.
Another grieving relative said that troops "surrounded the house and then blasted it with grenades". She said she did not know who the soldiers were.
The US and Iraqi militaries had no immediate comment on the raid.
According to a US-Iraqi security pact that went into effect January 1, US forces no longer operate freely in Iraq and must coordinate their activities with Iraqi forces.
Although their combat role in Iraq has shrunk, US forces can still take part in raids or patrols alongside their Iraqi counterparts, sometimes in the role of trainers or providing intelligence.
