Ferdinando CARULLI - Andantino in G
Ferdinando CARULLI - Andantino in G
Born in Naples, Ferdinando Carulli was at first a cellist, but turned as a young man to the guitar. He moved in 1808 to Paris, where he remained until his death in 1841. This small likeable Andantino is famous for starting guitarists (like me) who are familiar with the Noad Method Book. Watch Sor's Op. 60, nr. 9 after this, beautifully played by Peo Kindgren here on YT. Do you think Ferdinando was inspired by Fernando or vice versa? They both lived in the same era. Post it if you know the answer. I don't!

Ferdinando Carulli (1770-1841), Op. 27, n° 6 (in C Major)
Ferdinando Carulli (Napoli, 1770 - Parigi, 1841) fu compositore e chitarrista. ---------------------------------------- ---- Ferdinando Carulli (Naples,1770 -- Paris, 1841) was one of the most famous composers for classical guitar and a gifted performer. Carulli's first instrument was the cello but when he was twenty he discovered the guitar and he went to Vienna and, in 1808, to Paris. He wrote over 400 works guitar and the first "Complete guitar method, op. 27", which continues to be ...

This is the first video with my "new" old guitar... this guitar was made in 1800 (more or less five years...) by a luthier probably from Mirecourt, but the mark says Rémy, Limoges. (maker or seller ?) This guitar was restaured by Erik-Pierre Hofmann. See his website : www.fine-antique-and-classical-guitars.com

Andante by Ferdinando Carulli This is probably Carulli's most famous piece - simple to play but very representative of Carulli's music. Like many other classical pieces, I've played it as a kid and now sometimes come back to it. Played on a 1972 Yamaha GC-6D guitar

Siciliana by Ferdinando Carulli This is a popular piece by Carulli. I've played it as a kid and it's always been a favorite of mine from the classics for guitar. Normally I prefer playing contemporary pieces these days but some classics are well worth playing too and this is one of them - simple yet really nice flowing. Played on an Esteve 9C/B guitar

Ferdinando Carulli Rondo, duo
Ferdinando Carulli Rondo, duo
Ferdinando Maria Meinrado Francesco Pascale Rosario Carulli (9 February 1770 17 February 1841) was an Italian composer for classical guitar and the author of the first complete classical guitar method, which continues to be used today. He wrote a variety of works for classical guitar, including concertos and chamber works. He was an extremely prolific writer for guitar, composing over 400 works for the instrument in the space of 12 years.Carulli was among the most prolific composers of his time. He wrote more than four hundred works for the guitar, and countless others for various instrumental combinations, always including the guitar. His most influential work of all was his "Method, op. 27", published in 1810, and still used widely today in training students of the classical guitar. Carulli also composed some pieces for guitar and piano with his son Gustavo. He wrote works for chamber orchestra and other ensembles. Classical guitarists have recorded many of his works. Arguably his most famous work is a duet for guitar and flute, which was recorded by Alexander Lagoya and Jean-Pierre Rampal, although his Duo in G Op.34 achieved a measure of indirect fame in Britain as the theme tune of cult 1980s science fiction/television game show The Adventure Game. The Duo in G has been recorded several times, most famously by Julian Bream and John Williams.

Andante in Am - Ferdinando Carulli (1770-1841)
Received a wonderful Classical Guitar Book for Fathers Day, and Ferdinando Carulli pieces from the Classic Era have been fun to play from it. I'll have another one up tomorrow. I'm still learning to read sheet music proficiently so there are some slight timing issues while my brain catches up with my fingers at a couple points. But I love the crescendo and de-crescendo ways in this, I'm not used to doing that, but I tried my best with this!
