San Banarje is a multiple award-winning American independent filmmaker, cinematographer, producer, screenwriter, editor, photographer and an actor. He was born in Kolkata, India and now lives in Houston, Texas.
San Banarje had a very humble beginning. He was born in Calcutta, India in a place called Lake Camp. Banarje lived only a couple of blocks from the house of Academy Award winning director Satyajit Ray who inspired him immensely along with Brian De Palma, Woody Allen, Krzysztof Keislowski, Martin Scorsese, Vittorio De Sica, Michael Mann, Clint Eastwood, Jean-Luc Godard, Stanley Kubrick, Rainer Fassbinder and many other. Banarje's father worked at the Indian Railways and took morning claases at the nearby Law School. After passing law school he worked in the legal department of the Eastern Railways, then he enrolled in medical school and became MBBS (MD) in the late eighties. He never practiced medicine. San's mother was a nurse at the SSKM Hospital in the mid seventies. Later she worked for the Health Department. Apart from having a nursing degree, she also has Masters in Arts and a doctorate in Pharmacy.
Trisha Ray is an award-winning independent producer, screenwriter, filmmaker, actor and editor.
Her grandfather Dr. Bimal Roy, an ObGyn by profession, was so passionate about music, that he compiled three encyclopedias in Eastern Classical Music which are used by researchers all around the globe.
Trisha dropped out of pre-med during her sophomore year to pursue creative arts. She speaks Bengali, English and Spanish fluently.
She was born into a joint-family of artists and physicians. She enjoyed reading. So, each time she scored high marks in her class, her grandmother would reward her with a new book.
She also enjoyed spending time at her grandfather, Dr. Bimal Ray's clinic where she would be allowed to call names of the patients from the waiting list. Until 5, she was certain she wanted to be a physician like her grandfather, but then she visited the rehearsals at her father and uncle's theatre company and fell in love with the whole process. She loved watching her father direct actors, loved her uncle's acting skills and was awed by their knowledge of literature and plays.
Nikhil Ranjan Banerjee (Bengali: নিখিল রঞ্জন ব্যানার্জী) (14 October 1931 – 27 January 1986) was an eminent Indian classical sitarist of the Maihar Gharana. A student of the legendary Baba Allauddin Khan, Pandit Nikhil Banerjee was known for his technical virtuosity and clinical execution. Along with Pandit Ravi Shankar and Ustad Vilayat Khan, he emerged as one of the leading exponents of the Sitar and is regarded as a legend of Indian classical music. He was a recipient of the Indian civilian honour of the Padma Bhushan.
Nikhil Banerjee was born on October 14, 1931 in Calcutta. His father, Jitendranath Banerjee, was an amateur sitarist and Banerjee was fascinated by his father's playing. Although he wanted to try his hand at an instrument as early as the age of four, he was discouraged by his father and grandfather. At the age of five, however, they relented and he acquired a small sitar, initially learning under his father. Banerjee grew into a child prodigy. He won an all-India sitar competition and became the youngest musician employed by All India Radio at the age of nine. Jitendranath approached Mushtaq Ali Khan to take Nikhil as a disciple, but only learned from this master for a few short weeks. Instead Birendra Kishore Roy Chowdhury, the zamindar of Gouripur in present-day Bangladesh, became responsible for much of his early training. He also had considerable training under Pt. Radhika Mohan Maitra, the noted sarod player, before he went under the discipleship of Ustd. Allauddin Khan.

Today, he is regarded as one of the greatest sitarists of the 20th century For Banerjee, music-making was a spiritual rather than a worldly path: "Indian music is based on spiritualism; that is the first word, you must keep it in your mind. Many people misunderstand and think it's got something to do with religion—no, absolutely no! Nothing to do with religion, but spiritualism—Indian music was practised and learned to know the Supreme Truth.
