"Something old" is the first line of a traditional rhyme which details what a bride should wear at her wedding for good luck:
Something old,
something new,
something borrowed,
something blue,
and a silver sixpence in her shoe.
It is often recited as the four "somethings", not including the sixpence. The rhyme appears to originate in England, an 1898 compilation of English folklore reciting that:
Another compilation of the era frames this poem as "a Lancashire version", as contrast against a Leicestershire recitation that "a bride on her wedding day should wear—'Something new, Something blue, Something borrowed'...", and so omits the "something old". The authors note that this counters other regional folklore warning against the wearing of blue on the wedding day, but relates the use of the color to phrases like "true blue" which make positive associations with the color.
The rhyme can earlier be found in an 1876 edition of Notes and Queries, and is called an "ancient custom" in another 1876 book, Bye-gones, Relating to Wales and the Border Counties. This version is referenced as well in an 1871 short story, "Marriage Superstitions, and the Miseries of a Bride Elect", in The St. James's Magazine.

Something Old / Something New is the third extended play recorded by Canadian rock group Marianas Trench, released May 26, 2015 through 604 Records, Cherrytree Records, and Interscope Records. It contains two songs originally recorded for the band's fourth studio album, Astoria (2015), and two tracks that pre-date the recording of their debut studio album, Fix Me (2006). The EP was released in promotion of Astoria and serves as a "thank you" to their fans.
After wrapping up promotion of their previous studio album, Ever After (2011), in 2013, the group returned to the studio to work on new music. The release of "Pop 101" in July 2014 was intended as the beginning of the Astoria era and was followed up with a second single ("Here's to the Zeros") that winter. However, when the band officially announced Astoria, they ultimately decided not to include either of these tracks, as they no longer fit the tone of the record. These singles were repackaged with two old tracks from before Fix Me (2006) and released as the Something Old / Something New EP to tide fans over until the release of the album (Astoria).
"Something Old" is the 23rd episode of the eighth season of the CBS sitcom How I Met Your Mother, and the 183rd episode overall.
In 1994, Robin and her father visited New York (on what Robin Sr. called a 'father-son bonding trip') with Robin determined to move to the city one day. While in Central Park, Robin buried a locket intending to return for it before her wedding so it could be her 'Something Old'. Visiting the park with her father again in 2013, she intends for the two to find the locket, only for Robin Sr. to quickly leave to join Barney (who he has bonded with to the point of nicknaming him 'B-Dog') for a round of Lasertag. The two initially get along well against the children also playing, but soon get into an argument and organize the children into their own teams to take each other on. After a hard-fought battle, the two agree to end the argument and happily get back to shooting the other kids.

Kenya McQueen (Sanaa Lathan) is a successful, single African American woman who has sacrificed romance in order to pursue a career as a certified public accountant. Her obsessive compulsive desire for perfection and control has manifested itself in the bland, monochromatic decor of her new home and the rigid rules she follows in her personal life. Urged to loosen up by her friends, Kenya accepts a blind date with landscape architect Brian Kelly (Simon Baker) arranged by her co-worker Leah Cahan (Katharine Towne), who is in the process of planning the kind of wedding Kenya wants herself. The two meet at Starbucks, and she is surprised to discover Brian is white. She quickly excuses herself and leaves.
The two unexpectedly meet again at a party at Leah's parents' home, where Brian landscaped the grounds. Impressed with his work, Kenya decides to hire him to renovate her unkempt backyard garden. As time passes, their employer-employee relationship evolves into a friendship and then love.
