Local council representation and subdivision reviews
The VEC completed electoral representation reviews for 24 local councils and subdivision reviews for a further six councils in 2015–16. Any changes to the electoral structures of these councils arising from the reviews will apply at the October 2016 local council elections.
You can view maps and reports for past representation and subdivision reviews for more information.
The principle of 'one vote, one value' is a foundation of the democratic process in Victoria.
Boundary reviews are conducted to make sure each vote has equal value in elections.
- The internal boundaries of councils are reviewed by the VEC representation and subdivision reviews.
- The external boundaries of Victorian local councils are determined by the Governor in Council on the recommendation of the Minister for Local Government, after a local Government panel has conducted a review.
