Joseph Thomas "Joe" Elliott (born 1 August 1959) is an English singer-songwriter and musician, best known as the lead singer of the rock band Def Leppard. He has also been the lead singer of the David Bowie tribute band, the Cybernauts and the Mott the Hoople cover band, Down 'n' Outz. He is one of the two original members of Def Leppard and one of the three to perform on every Def Leppard album.
Joseph Thomas Elliott was born in Sheffield, South Yorkshire and was educated at King Edward VII School. Elliott met Pete Willis, a member of a local band called Atomic Mass, in November 1977 after missing a bus. Upon finding out that they were both musicians, Elliott met the rest of the Atomic Mass members. The band spent hours talking and listening to records in Elliott's bedroom. Elliott tried out as a guitarist and, though the band had not heard Elliott sing, they were impressed by "his attitude and his ideas about being in a band" and he became the band's vocalist instead. The other members also took Elliott's suggestion to change their name to "Deaf Leopard." Elliott had invented the name for the band in youth. Tony Kenning suggested they change the name to "Def Leppard" to distinguish them from contemporary punk bands like The Flying Lizards and Boomtown Rats. The band claims that the similar-looking spelling of Led Zeppelin to Def Leppard was unintentional. Elliott soon became an integral part of the band while also contributing his songwriting skills.

Plot: In the late 1970s Britain, Joe Elliot joins a small time rock band that becomes Def Leppard. Soon taking control of the band with his perfectionism, Elliot and his mates strive to reach the top despite their personal strife that drives the less determined members away for more driven ones. By 1982, Def Leppard becomes a rock sensation, only to find that success has its own problems. Whether it be drummer Rick Allen's dismembering accident or guitarist Steve Clark's equally self-destructive alcoholism, the band struggles to keep the loyalty, tenacity and creativity that would make the group one of the greatest in rock history.

Plot: U.S. Marshal Dave Upjohn arrives in Sundown to investigate reports of lawlessness and is met by Sheriff Mace Arnold and his deputy, Lefty Brant. Knowing that an investigation will disclose that they have being using their office to rob the ranchers, they murder Upjohn. When his son Steve, posing as Steve Carlton, learns of the murder, he vows vengeance. Arnold's gang captures him, knocks him unconscious, ties him to his horse and then drives the animal into Chimney Hole, trusting that the canyon's tough residents will kill him for prying into their affairs. Steve soon learns that, rather then being outlaws, the people of Chimney Hole are really upstanding ranchers who have fled there to get away from Arnold and his gang. At first, Steve suspects the leader, Lucky Shelton, of being responsible for the murder, but Harmony Haines, proves to him that Arnold was the man responsible. The ranchers agree to cooperate with Steve in an effort to drive Arnold from office. He and Lucky ride to town where they offer to pay Arnold $8,000 in "back taxes" as a bribe to make peace. When he accepts the bribe, the honest citizens break in and a gun-fight battle ensues.

Taylor Swift performs Two Steps Behind, Live with Def Leppard at the Acuff Theatre. When Taylor got to perform with the band Joe Elliott said the two songs she told them right away that she wanted to perform were When Love & Hate Collide and Two Steps Behind.
As frontman of one of the most iconic British hard rock/hair metal bands of the 1980s, Joe Elliott has spent the last three decades and counting singing for Def Leppard, while also occasionally exploring other side projects, such as his Mott the Hoople cover band Joe Elliott's Down 'n' Outz, or the supergroup Kings of Chaos. A defining characteristic of his vocal style is his high, raspy head voice singing, which can sometimes be quite tonally resemblant of Axl Rose. His first album with Def Leppard, 1980's On Through the Night, saw little use of this type of singing, as he reserved himself to more of a mid range back then and rarely sang above C5. 1981's High 'n' Dry marked the beginning of his trademark high singing style, which was where he first began to regularly carry song melodies a...
Nominate Def Leppard for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and you'd most likely receive a "no, thank you." The band's lead singer Joe Elliot told HuffPost Live's Ricky Camilleri on Wednesday that the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is "nice but not that important." Elliot said he's more interested in the opinion of his fans, who he says don't get a large say in who is inducted. "The biggest compliment I ever got was my first ... platinum disk because it's a representation of 1 million people who've bought your album, and those million mean a lot more to me than some people that decide whether you fit for the Hall of Fame," Elliot said. While Def Leppard has yet to be inducted, Elliott said he could name 100 other artists "more important" than those who have been recognized. "In fact, we've ki...

Joe Elliott discusses the impact David Bowie had on his life and gives an update on Def Leppard.
An interview with Joe Elliott of Def Leppard, conducted by Alan K. Stout of The Times Leader in 2000. A note from Alan: "This was the second time I had interviewed Joe and a few things stick out from this conversation: A) Even though Def Leppard was amid a very nice commercial comeback at the time of this interview, the backlash to '80s hard-rock that the band experienced during the early '90s - specifically during the grunge movement - was still something that troubled him. B) He is a very serious fan of rock music and has a fine knowledge of pop music history. C) He did not know, until I told him, how much the kindness that he showed towards Brian May at the 1992 Freddie Mercury tribute concert meant to May. I'd read an interview where May talked about it, and I was able to t...
The late Roger Scott interviews Def Leppard's Joe Elliott and Rick Allen the week before the release of "Hysteria." Straight from the raw tape (complete with interruptions), the band discusses when they finished the album, working with Jim Steinman, Rick's accident, how the band gets along, the "Hysteria" recording sessions being either legendary or a laughing stock to the outside world, Joe's "Hysteria" sales projections, Joe's vocal troubles, the band's bad luck during the recording of the album, the 1986 shows, Rick's return and the album title, how the success of "Pyromania" changed them, choosing the songs for the "Hysteria" album, compact discs and if they will outsell cassettes, comparing "Hysteria" to other classic albums, a very outdated opinion on Bon Jovi, the rock scene and ban...

With all that talk about the wonders of MTV at the beginning, this vintage interview has not aged well but is nonetheless a very frank conversation with a trio of nice guys. They had come to Japan on the heals of the mega-success of "Pyromania" and had a lot to say about their ascent to the top of the charts. Poor Rick Allen would lose an arm in an accident 11 months later but stayed in the game. Steve Harris interviewed the band on Jan. 21, 1984 at the Keio Plaza Hotel in Tokyo, Japan. “If you struggle to learn to read, it’s a massive threat to your identity,” says Professor Joe Elliot, Durham University, UK. “It’s absolutely soul destroying, not only for the child, but for the family as well. The dyslexia label serves a powerful psychological function. For many people, they don’t want to be told that it’s scientifically fraught because this function is so meaningful to them.” This presentation will outline the nature of the dyslexia debate and propose a more scientific solution. In so doing, it will draw upon the content of The Dyslexia Debate (Elliott & Grigorenko, 2014, Cambridge University Press). This text, four years in the production, represents a detailed analysis and synthesis of research in dyslexia across the domains of genetics, neuroscience, cognitive scienc...

Joe smacks Phil accidentally at their concert in Evansville, IN
I said it once
And I'll say it thousand times again
That love is amazing
If you find the perfect one
Everyone say
To find the one may take some time
Sorrow can struck you
But in the end it's worth the fight
We are just meant to be
I know and you'll see
What I never thought I'd find
It's here with me
Heaven's made for you and me
I close my eyes
It's written in the stars above
And we will last eternity
Heaven's made for you and me
There's nothing to fear
Cause Darling when you're close to me
It's heavenly
You gave me a chance
You gave me the time it took to proof
Still I was uncertain
Was I gettin' through to you
The woman in me, boy
The woman I am need to (..)
But you always convinst me
In your love and tenderness
We are just meant to be
I know and you will see
What I never thought I'd find
I'ts here with me
Heaven's made for you and me
I close my eyes
It's written in the stars above
And we will last eternity
Heaven's made for you and me
There's nothing to fear
Cause Darling when you're close to me
It's heavenly
Just like a little girl alone and who's afraid
But then you came and I was saved
Now there's no lonely days
And no more all alone
Cause I never thought I find you
But I did
Heaven's made for you and me
I close my eyes
It's written in the stars above
And we will last eternity
Heaven's made for you and me
There's nothing to fear
Cause Darling when you're close to me
It's heavenly
