I LOVE ESTHER WILLIAMS SO MUCH. GAH. SO SO MUCH. There honestly aren't enough words in the English language to properly articulate my love for her. Seriously, Esther's films have brought me so much joy over the past year and it was such an honor to make a tribute to this phenomenal woman. I don't know why but this is the first actor/actress tribute I have made where I've felt an overwhelming sense of responsibility to make something truly worthy of their talent. I even found myself tearing up a couple times during the editing process- something that's never happened to me before. I suppose because her death is so recent (Esther passed away in June last year), this video felt more special somehow. I only wish I got the chance to meet her.
Her films were never going to win any awards but they are examples of escapism at its absolute finest- purely designed to buck up a nation in the aftermath of WWII. If you want to check out some of her films, I highly recommend "Million Dollar Mermaid", "Duchess of Idaho", "Thrill of a Romance", "On an Island With You" and "Easy to Love". Look, to be honest, all her films are worth watching (except maybe "Fiesta"- save that one for last).
Also, one last thing, please do yourself a favour and read Esther Williams' incredible autobiography. It is easily the most candid autobiography I have ever come across and is a true testament to the character of this incredible woman. I couldn't put it down.
I hope you enjoy this tribute to one of my all-time favourite actresses, the incomparable Esther Williams.

Petrushka, ballet en un acto y cuatro escenas. Con coreografía de Michel Fokine, música de Ígor Stravinski, libreto de Stravinski y Alexandre Benois, y decorados y vestuario también de Alexandre Benois. Fue compuesto durante el invierno de 1910-11 y estrenado en París, Francia, en el Teatro del Châtelet por los Ballets Rusos de Serguéi Diáguilev, el 13 de junio de 1911 y bajo la dirección musical del Pierre Monteux.

Petrushka es una marioneta de paja y serrín tradicional rusa de carácter bufo y burlón, lo que en el mundo latino equivaldría al Polichinela, que cobra vida y desarrolla la capacidad de sentir.
La obra se caracteriza entre otras cosas por el llamado acorde de Petrushka, consistente en un acorde de do mayor y fa sostenido mayor tocados simultáneamente (politonalidad), que suele acompañar la aparición del personaje de Petrushka casi a modo de leitmotiv.
Escena I
En 1838, en la Plaza del Almirantazgo de San Petersburgo, se celebra la feria de carnaval. En la plaza hay un teatrino donde el Mago presenta un espectáculo. Al abrirse el telón se ven tres muñecos que, a la orden del Mago, comienzan a bailar. El Moro y Petrushka están enamorados de la Bailarina, pero esta claramente prefiere al Moro. Petrushka en un ataque de celos agrede al Moro y el Charlatán detiene la presentación.
Escena II
Encerrado en su cuarto por el Charlatán, Petrushka protesta por la crueldad con la que es tratado por demostrar sus sentimientos. Aparece la Bailarina y Petrushka, emocionado, le expresa su amor con brusquedad. La Bailarina se marcha asustada por la rudeza de Petrushka dejándolo sumido en la tristeza y la desesperación.
Escena III
En la habitación del Moro. Aunque el Moro también está prisionero, se encuentra feliz con su situación. Entra la Bailarina y el Moro la halaga, ella está complacida por el trato y se deja abrazar por él. En ese momento entra Petrushka que amenaza al Moro, éste se defiende con su cimitarra y hace huir a Petrushka.
Escena IV
La feria de carnaval en la plaza de San Petersburgo. Las personas han continuado con las celebraciones sin darse cuenta de lo que sucede dentro del teatrino. La fiesta se interrumpe cuando sale por el teatrino Petrushka perseguido por el Moro. El Moro mata a Petrushka. La gente se asusta pensando que se ha cometido un asesinato, llega la policía e interroga al Mago, pero en el piso solamente hay un muñeco de trapo. La fiesta llega a su fin, todos se van retirando y el Charlatán se lleva a Petrushka hacia el teatrino pero del techo aparece el fantasma de Petrushka amenazador.

Fiesta is an American Technicolor musical-drama film released by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer in 1947, starring Esther Williams, Ricardo Montalbán, Mary Astor and Cyd Charisse. The film was directed by Richard Thorpe and written by George Bruce and Lester Cole. The film focuses on Mario Morales (Ricardo Montalbán), a bullfighter who wants to be a composer, and his twin sister, Maria Morales (Esther Williams), who wants to be a bullfighter even though she is a woman. When Mario runs away to study music, Maria takes his place in the ring to lure him back.
The film was shot on location in Puebla, Mexico. This was Montalbán's first credited role in a Hollywood film, and resulted in him being offered a contract by the studio. It was also the first of three films pairing Williams and Montalbán, the other two being On an Island with You (1948) and Neptune's Daughter (1949).
Fiesta was the first time Williams's name was billed above the title.
The film took longer than expected because Thorpe decided that he did not want the bulls killed. However, this led to the bulls attacking the stuntmen, four of them ending up in the hospital, and two of them barely surviving after being gored in the groin due to infections caused by the dirt on the bulls' horns. (Williams was doubled by men. After years of swimming, her shoulders were broad and her backside was flat, and had a different body build that that of a bullfighter and a visible difference on film.) Not killing the bulls made the Mexican people angry, which didn't help, since they were already angry that their own toreadors could not star in the film. At the end of filming, the unit manager, Walter Strohm convinced Thorpe to kill the bulls, even though they cost $1000 each.

I LOVE ESTHER WILLIAMS SO MUCH. GAH. SO SO MUCH. There honestly aren't enough words in the English language to properly articulate my love for her. Seriously, Esther's films have brought me so much joy over the past year and it was such an honor to make a tribute to this phenomenal woman. I don't know why but this is the first actor/actress tribute I have made where I've felt an overwhelming sense of responsibility to make something truly worthy of their talent. I even found myself tearing up a couple times during the editing process- something that's never happened to me before. I suppose because her death is so recent (Esther passed away in June last year), this video felt more special somehow. I only wish I got the chance to meet her.
Her films were never going to win any awards but they are examples of escapism at its absolute finest- purely designed to buck up a nation in the aftermath of WWII. If you want to check out some of her films, I highly recommend "Million Dollar Mermaid", "Duchess of Idaho", "Thrill of a Romance", "On an Island With You" and "Easy to Love". Look, to be honest, all her films are worth watching (except maybe "Fiesta"- save that one for last).

I LOVE ESTHER WILLIAMS SO MUCH. GAH. SO SO MUCH. There honestly aren't enough words in the English language to properly articulate my love for her. Seriously, Esther's films have brought me so much joy over the past year and it was such an honor to make a tribute to this phenomenal woman. I don't know why but this is the first actor/actress tribute I have made where I've felt an overwhelming sense of responsibility to make something truly worthy of their talent. I even found myself tearing up a couple times during the editing process- something that's never happened to me before. I suppose because her death is so recent (Esther passed away in June last year), this video felt more special somehow. I only wish I got the chance to meet her.
Her films were never going to win any awards but they are examples of escapism at its absolute finest- purely designed to buck up a nation in the aftermath of WWII. If you want to check out some of her films, I highly recommend "Million Dollar Mermaid", "Duchess of Idaho", "Thrill of a Romance", "On an Island With You" and "Easy to Love". Look, to be honest, all her films are worth watching (except maybe "Fiesta"- save that one for last).

Petrushka, ballet en un acto y cuatro escenas. Con coreografía de Michel Fokine, música de Ígor Stravinski, libreto de Stravinski y Alexandre Benois, y decorados y vestuario también de Alexandre Benois. Fue compuesto durante el invierno de 1910-11 y estrenado en París, Francia, en el Teatro del Châtelet por los Ballets Rusos de Serguéi Diáguilev, el 13 de junio de 1911 y bajo la dirección musical del Pierre Monteux.

Petrushka es una marioneta de paja y serrín tradicional rusa de carácter bufo y burlón, lo que en el mundo latino equivaldría al Polichinela, que cobra vida y desarrolla la capacidad de sentir.
La obra se caracteriza entre otras cosas por el llamado acorde de Petrushka, consistente en un acorde de do mayor y fa sostenido mayor tocados simultáneamente (politonalidad), que suele acompañar la aparición del personaje de Petrushka casi a modo de leitmotiv.
Escena I
En 1838, en la Plaza del Almirantazgo de San Petersburgo, se celebra la feria de carnaval. En la plaza hay un teatrino donde el Mago presenta un espectáculo. Al abrirse el telón se ven tres muñecos que, a la orden del Mago, comienzan a bailar. El Moro y Petrushka están enamorados de la Bailarina, pero esta claramente prefiere al Moro. Petrushka en un ataque de celos agrede al Moro y el Charlatán detiene la presentación.
Escena II
Encerrado en su cuarto por el Charlatán, Petrushka protesta por la crueldad con la que es tratado por demostrar sus sentimientos. Aparece la Bailarina y Petrushka, emocionado, le expresa su amor con brusquedad. La Bailarina se marcha asustada por la rudeza de Petrushka dejándolo sumido en la tristeza y la desesperación.
Escena III
En la habitación del Moro. Aunque el Moro también está prisionero, se encuentra feliz con su situación. Entra la Bailarina y el Moro la halaga, ella está complacida por el trato y se deja abrazar por él. En ese momento entra Petrushka que amenaza al Moro, éste se defiende con su cimitarra y hace huir a Petrushka.
Escena IV
La feria de carnaval en la plaza de San Petersburgo. Las personas han continuado con las celebraciones sin darse cuenta de lo que sucede dentro del teatrino. La fiesta se interrumpe cuando sale por el teatrino Petrushka perseguido por el Moro. El Moro mata a Petrushka. La gente se asusta pensando que se ha cometido un asesinato, llega la policía e interroga al Mago, pero en el piso solamente hay un muñeco de trapo. La fiesta llega a su fin, todos se van retirando y el Charlatán se lleva a Petrushka hacia el teatrino pero del techo aparece el fantasma de Petrushka amenazador.

Le style « new yorkais » de sa musique lui permet de se faire mondialement connaître avec « Skyscraper Fantasy » (1940), « Cuban Holiday » (1948), « Trumpet Fiesta », « Cradle Serenade », « The Galleon », « October Rhapsody » (1958), « Toni's Tune » (1960), et surtout « Concerto in Jazz » (1947) pour piano et orchestre qui fut joué par tous les chefs d'orchestre de Light Music, notamment Sidney Torch, Charles Williams et Annunzio Mantovani. Après le « Concerto de Varsovie » de Richard Addinsell et avec le « Spellbound Concerto » de Miklos Rozsa, tous les deux pour piano et orchestre, et de courte durée, le « Concerto in Jazz » fut un des gros succès de l'industrie du disque. This is a list of the 122 cartoons starting from No 110 starring Popeye the Sailor and produced by Paramount Pictures' Famous Studios (later known as Paramount Cartoon Studios) from 1942 to 1957. These cartoons were produced after Paramount took ownership of Fleischer Studios, which originated the Popeye cartoon series in 1933.
All cartoons are one-reel in length (6 to 10 minutes). The first 14 shorts (You're a Sap, Mr. Jap through Cartoons Ain't Human) are in black-and-white. All remaining cartoons, beginning with Her Honor the Mare, are in colour. Unlike the Fleischer Studios entries, the director credits for these shorts represent the actual director in charge of that short's production. While sailing out on the high seas, Popeye and Princess Olive spot a pirate ship and are taken prisoners of Blutobeard the Pirate (with a great pirate accent and his salty and very crusty crew of four) who wants to exchange Olive for a ransom. Popeye manages to free himself (with the help of a can of spinach!) and rescue Princess Olive, while J. Wellington Wimpy does what he does best... eat hamburgers! As a reward, he is crowned a prince. Prince Popeye the Sailor Man!

This is a list of the 122 cartoons starting from No 110 starring Popeye the Sailor and produced by Paramount Pictures' Famous Studios (later known as Paramount Cartoon Studios) from 1942 to 1957. These cartoons were produced after Paramount took ownership of Fleischer Studios, which originated the Popeye cartoon series in 1933.
All cartoons are one-reel in length (6 to 10 minutes). The first 14 shorts (You're a Sap, Mr. Jap through Cartoons Ain't Human) are in black-and-white. All remaining cartoons, beginning with Her Honor the Mare, are in colour. Unlike the Fleischer Studios entries, the director credits for these shorts represent the actual director in charge of that short's production. Popeye the Sailor -- Famous Studios
This is a list of the 122 cartoons starting from No 110 starring Popeye the Sailor and produced by Paramount Pictures' Famous Studios (later known as Paramount Cartoon Studios) from 1942 to 1957. These cartoons were produced after Paramount took ownership of Fleischer Studios, which originated the Popeye cartoon series in 1933.
All cartoons are one-reel in length (6 to 10 minutes). The first 14 shorts (You're a Sap, Mr. Jap through Cartoons Ain't Human) are in black-and-white. All remaining cartoons, beginning with Her Honor the Mare, are in colour. Unlike the Fleischer Studios entries, the director credits for these shorts represent the actual director in charge of that short's production. The first animator credited handled the animation direction. The numbers listed next to each cartoon continue the numbering of the Fleischer entries.
The black-and white Popeye cartoons were sold to television distributor Associated Artists Productions (A.A.P.) in 1956, and the colour cartoons were sold to A.A.P. the following year. The original opening and closing Paramount titles were cut for TV syndication. By the early 2000s, the Popeye shorts were owned by Turner Entertainment, whose Cartoon Network broadcast restored versions of many of the shorts as part of an anthology series called The Popeye Show. These shorts are noted below.

Heckle and Jeckle are postwar animated cartoon characters created by Paul Terry, originally produced at his own Terrytoons animation studio and released through 20th Century Fox. The characters are a pair of identical anthropomorphic magpies who calmly outwit their foes in the manner of Bugs Bunny, while maintaining an aggressively mischievous streak reminiscent of the early Woody Woodpecker or Screwy Squirrel. Unlike Bugs Bunny, their comic aggression is often unprovoked, and in a number (perhaps most) of their cartoons (Moose on the Loose, Free Enterprise, The Power of Thought, Hula Hula Land) their foes win in the end.
According to Leonard Maltin's Of Mice and Magic: A History of American Animated Cartoons (1980) and Don Markstein's Toonopedia, Paul Terry considered the Heckle and Jeckle series the best cartoons his studio ever made.
Heckle and Jeckle are both salesmen or at least pitchmen. They show up in a municipal park (where no peddlers are allowed) to sell their instant hair-growing tonic (a/k/a snake oil). They set up a table and start trying to sell hair tonic to the locals, who are a bunch of cute li'l animals. Why any woodland creatures would need hair tonic is not explained. Along come Dimwit (the moronic hound) as the park attendee, and that constable bulldog (did he ever have a name?) as the cop patrolling the park. Mayhem ensues, We see a sign announcing a fork in the road, and then -- yep! -- There's an enormous table fork in the road. The Bulldog Cop chases Heckle and Jeckle out once, but they come back. So Dimwit (the slow-talking dog) is told to get rid of them... easier said than done in this "hair-raising" adventure! Violently, the magpies clobber the two dogs. Plenty of violence and easy access to firearms.
