Bill Withers - lonely town lonely street - live 1973 - Soul.
HAVE A LOVELY DAY :) Born 4 July 1938 in a small coal mining town, youngest of six children, Bill Withers was raised by his mother and grandmother after his father died. Bill struggled with stuttering throughout childhood and dropped out of school in ninth grade. He enlisted in the US Navy where he received speech therapy and began to sing and write songs, playing guitar and piano. After the Navy, Bill worked as a milkman and other jobs in Los Angeles, recording and promoting his own demos. His great talent was discovered at age 32 when Aint No Sunshine was produced by Booker T. Jones, went gold and won Bill his first Grammy in 1970. But Bill kept working at an airplane factory, still apprehensive about the fickle nature of the music business. His second grammy won in 1972 for Lean On Me, which topped Billboard's 100 for three weeks! Bill went on to a successful music career, touring and recording until 1985, then in 2009 made his wonderful biographical movie STILL BILL. He will celebrate his 74th birthday soon and there are rumours he may be working on a new album. Thank you, Bill Withers, for inspiring all who overcome childhood difficulties, serve their country's armed forces, go to work every day, raise a family, and dream of music!

Subscribe to the podcast: http://www.wnyc.org/shows/deathsexmoney/ Maybe it's not manly to say, "I'm scared." But for Bill Withers, being a man isn't about ignoring fear. It's about getting things done in spite of it, and knowing when to ask for help. Before he wrote some of the most memorable hits of the 70s and 80s—songs like "Ain't No Sunshine," and "Lean on Me"—Withers was a stuttering boy in a poor mining town.

This is the original version of "Lovely Day" which i decided to upload because it was not on youtube already. Please do not complain of there not being a video, as it would probably be taken down by youtube anyway. This is purely audio along with the artwork of the album from which the song came from. I would appreciate any ratings and comments. So enjoy this brilliant song! If you liked this then please subscribe and check out some of my other videos. Lyrics: When I wake up in the morning, love And the sunlight hurts my eyes And something without warning, love Bears heavy on my mind Then I look at you And the world's alright with me Just one look at you And I know it's gonna be A lovely day ... lovely day, lovely day, lovely day ... When the day that lies ahead of me Seems impossible to face When someone else instead of me Always seems to know the way Then I look at you And the world's alright with me Just one look at you And I know it's gonna be A lovely day..... The Times of India 2015-03-30William Harrison "Bill" Withers, Jr. (born July 4, 1938) is an American singer-songwriter and musician who performed and recorded from 1970 until 1985. He recorded a number of hits such as "Lean on Me", "Ain't No Sunshine", "Use Me", "Just the Two of Us", "Lovely Day", and "Grandma's Hands". His life was recently the subject of the documentary film Still Bill.
Withers was born the youngest of six children in the small coal-mining town of Slab Fork, West Virginia. Raised in nearby Beckley, West Virginia, Withers was twelve years old when his father died. He enlisted with the United States Navy at age eighteen and served for nine years, during which time he became interested in singing and writing songs. Soon after his discharge from the Navy in 1965, he relocated to Los Angeles in 1967 for a musical career.
Withers worked as an assembler for several different companies, including Douglas Aircraft Corporation, while recording demo tapes with his own money, shopping them around and performing in clubs at night. When he debuted with the song "Ain't No Sunshine" he refused to resign his job because of his belief that the music business was a fickle industry and that he was still a novice compared to other acts.
