Best of Bee Gees is the first compilation album of international hits by the Bee Gees. Brother Robin Gibb had left the group after the completion of the previous release, Odessa, and the timing was right for a compilation while the remaining brothers worked towards their next original album, Cucumber Castle.
The original 1969 vinyl release included the Bee Gees' 1966 Australian top ten hit "Spicks and Specks", but due to licensing issues with Festival Records in Australia, the group's 1969 hit "Tomorrow, Tomorrow" was substituted on the Polydor CD release.
The album is noted by fans for its bad stereo mix of the song "Words", which increased the vocals so much that the percussion was lost in the background. This is the only album/CD with this mix. All future compilations have the proper stereo mix which is more balanced.
Vince Melouney, although playing guitar on most of the tracks, is not pictured on the front or back cover as he had departed the group a year earlier.
With the release of Their Greatest Hits: The Record in 2001, this CD went out of print for several years until Rhino reissued it in November 2008 with the same tracks as the Polydor CD. Three of the thirteen tracks from the combined vinyl/CD Best of Bee Gees do not appear amongst the forty seven tracks on Their Greatest Hits: The Record: "I Can't See Nobody" and "Every Christian Lion Hearted Man Will Show You" had only actually been the B-sides of other hits on Best of Bee Gees, while "Tomorrow, Tomorrow" had charted but had never reached the top 20 in the charts of the UK, USA nor Australia. In October 2010, it was listed at No. 16 in the book, 100 Best Australian Albums.
The Bee Gees were a musical group founded in 1958. The group's line-up consisted of brothers Barry, Robin, and Maurice Gibb. The trio were successful for most of their decades of recording music, but they had two distinct periods of exceptional success: as a pop act in the late 1960s/early 1970s, and as prominent performers of the disco music era in the late 1970s.
The group sang three-part tight harmonies that were instantly recognisable; Robin's clear vibrato lead was a hallmark of their earlier hits, while Barry's R&B falsetto became their signature sound during the late 1970s and 1980s. The brothers wrote all of their own hits, as well as writing and producing several major hits for other artists.
Born in the Isle of Man to English parents, the Gibb brothers lived their first few years in Chorlton, Manchester, England, then moved in the late 1950s to Redcliffe, Queensland, Australia, where they began their musical careers. After achieving their first chart success in Australia with "Spicks and Specks" (their 12th single), they returned to the United Kingdom in January 1967 where producer Robert Stigwood began promoting them to a worldwide audience.
Gees is a village in the Netherlands and it is part of the Coevorden municipality in Drenthe. Gees had a population of 610 in 2004. Its elevation is 16 meters (55 feet).
Gees is also the term used to describe the patriotic feeling experienced by South Africans during the 2010 Fifa World Cup.

Alright , I don't mind , having fun is my pre-occupation
I don't mind givin' it all away , oh baby
Alright , the love you had has gone away (alright) alright (alright)
Slow down , you'll live to love another day (alright ) alright (alright)
A-ha king of fools , don't live by the golden rules
A-ha king of fools tonight , tonight
Alright , love is blind and people say that love is an illusion
I don't mind givin it all away , oh baby
Alright , the love you had has gone away (alright) alright (alright)
Slow down , you'll live to love another day (alright) alright (alright)
Time out for the king of fools
Step right up for the king of fools
A-ha king of fools , don't live by the golden rules
Ah-ha king of fools tonight , tonight
A-ha prince of nights , just lives for the New York lights
A-ha king of fools tonight , tonight
A-ha king of fools , don't live by the golden rules
A-ha king of fools tonight , tonight
A-ha prince of nights, just lives for the New York lights
