Smoking gun: Did Big Josh lie for his son?
New details in the Joshua Young trial have sparked some questions about the role Josh Gouker, Young's father, played in Trey Zwicker's murder. Gouker, Zwicker's stepfather, initially blamed the murder on his son, but later pleaded guilty to killing Zwicker and now claims Young had no involvement. The Act of Killing - trailer HD
When Sukarno was overthrown by Suharto following the tragic 30 September Movement in 1965, Anwar Congo and his friends were promoted from illegal traders of movie theatre tickets on the black market to death squad leaders. They helped the army kill at least hundreds of thousands of alleged communists, and committed extortion of ethnic Chinese, killing those who refused. As the executioner for the most notorious death squad in his city Medan in North Sumatra, Anwar himself killed hundreds of people with his own hands.
Today, Anwar is revered as a founding father of the right-wing paramilitary organization Pemuda Pancasila that grew out of the death squads. The organization is so powerful that its leaders include government ministers, and they are happy to boast about everything from corrupt...

Dérapage d'acan , victoire sur Ai, et ruse des gabaonites
Today we will be discussing Joshua chapters 7-9. The Israelites were unfaithful regarding the devoted things. Achan, son of Karmi, the son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, took some of them. The Lord’s anger burned against Israel. Joshua sent men from Jericho to Ai, which is near Beth Aven to the east of Bethel, and told them, ‘Go up and spy out the region.’ So the men went up and spied out, Ai. When they returned to Joshua, they said, ‘Not all the army will have to go up against Ai. Send two or three thousand men to take it and do not weary the whole army, for only a few people live there.’. They chased the Israelites from the city gate as far as the stone quarries and struck them down on the slopes. At this, the hearts of the people melted in fear and became like water. The elders of Isr...

Joshua The Black Rider: Full Free Blaxploitation Western Movie, Full Length Cowboy Film, English: Joshua (1976), Drama. Joshua is a 1976 American film directed by Larry G. Spangler. The film is also known as Black Rider, Joshua the Black Rider or Revenge.
In this post-Civil War Western, Fred Williamson stars as a vigilante on the hunt for the men who killed his mother. First titled The Black Rider.
A black soldier returns from fighting for the Union in the Civil War only to find out that his mother has been murdered by a gang of white thugs. He becomes a bounty hunter, determined to track down and kill the men who killed his mother.
Director: Larry G. Spangler (as Larry Spangler)
Writer: Fred Williamson (story and screenplay)
Stars: Fred Williamson, Cal Bartlett, Brenda Venus
Runtime: 1h 30min
A low budget and lower aspirations do in this underplotted 1976 western, in which Fred Williamson does a passable imitation of Clint Eastwood, managing about 40 words of dialogue in the whole film. Larry Spangler directed, with more mismatched shots than are forgivable, even in these liberal times. PG, 75 min.
Synopsis: Back from fighting for the Union in the Civil War, a black soldier becomes a bounty hunter to exact revenge on the white thugs who killed his mother.
DAVID F. WALKER: Some evil racists make the mistake of killing Civil War veteran Joshua’s (Fred “the Hammer” Williamson) momma. In the process of killin’ Momma Hammer, they also kidnap the wife of the white man that she worked for. Now, I don’t need to tell you Joshua ain’t givin’ a rusty shit ‘bout the wife of no white man; but as anyone who’s seen ORIGINAL GANGSTAS knows, Fred ain’t havin’ that abuse of his momma. And quicker than you can say, “Don’t be messin’ wif my momma”, our main man sets out on a trail-o-revenge. Joshua tracks them no good varmints across the open prairie; and one by one he makes sure they all contract a serious case of the deaths. One sucka gets took out with a rattlesnake, one gets spear chucked, others get filled fulla lead, and one gets blown to smithereens. It all sounds pretty exciting…but it isn’t.
Like director Jack Arnold’s BOSS NIGGER (which also starred Williamson), JOSHUA draws much of its inspiration from the European-produced spaghetti westerns, which had been popular in the 1960s, but by the 1970s had become increasingly dependent on comedy to keep the genre going. While BOSS NIGGER is a technically poor film, it is fun to watch, coming across like a blaxploitation version of Enzo Barboni’s TRINITY films. JOSHUA, on the other hand is reminiscent of spaghetti westerns from the mid-to-late 1960s, playing like a Franco Nero or John Garko film – something along the lines of MASSACRE TIME or VENGEANCE IS MINE, neither of which are all that good in their own right. But even by the standards of mediocre-to-crappy spaghetti westerns, JOSHUA isn’t all it’s cracked up to be, lacking the visual flare that fueled even some of the more craptacular Eurowesterns. While not being brain-melting terrible, JOSHUA ain’t exactly good either.
The Hammer is the only saving grace to the film, but he doesn’t keep the film moving the way Charles Bronson propels the similar CHATO’S LAND. And pretty much all the moving this film does is at a turtle’s pace, thanks in part to Larry Spangler’s flat, uninspired direction. Spangler also produced Williamson’s first western, THE LEGEND ON NIGGER CHARLEY, and he wrote, produced, and directed the sequel THE SOUL OF NIGGER CHARLEY (neither of which comfortably rest in the realm of what might be considered “decent” films). But beyond Spangler’s lifeless direction, we also have Williamson’s script, which takes no chances and gives no dimension to the hero. And while a dimensionless hero may be somewhat acceptable, flat and stale villains can really weigh a movie down, which is just another part of this sorry state of affairs.

Ismaire, the Queen of White Dunes, is killed in cold blood by Caellach. In the following scene, Joshua inherits the Sacred Twins of Jehanna, and subsequently passes it on to Eirika so the army can use it. What if he died instead?
In the same vein as my What If Virion Dies video, I had Joshua killed at the last possible second, by his own mentor, Carlyle. I used tool-assisted random number manipulation to ensure both characters not only hit, but also crit in the same turn. Seeing Joshua go from critting and having the advantage to being critted and dying from full HP... that is the kind of theatrics I strive for in my videos. I expect this to be a true gut punch to the viewer.
I find it really fascinating how the subsequent scenes change, not only the one with Ismaire. In the original version, Joshua and the other nobles discuss how they are allies now. So to have that part of the game simply gone is another gut punch on top of what I already did.

Australian National University Professor of Asian history and politics Robert Cribb stated that the film lacks historical context.[21] In reply, Oppenheimer said that "the film is essentially not about what happened in 1965, but rather about a regime in which genocide has, paradoxically, been effaced [yet] celebrated -- in order to keep the survivors terrified, the public brainwashed, and the perpetrators able to live with themselves...It never pretends to be an exhaustive account of the events of 1965. It seeks to understand the impact of the killing and terror today, on individuals and institutions."[22]
Bradley Simpson, historian at the University of Connecticut and director of the Indonesia/East Timor Documentation Project at the National Security Archive, states the "brilliant Oscar-nominated film" has prompted vigorous debate among Indonesians about the crimes and the need to hold responsible parties accountable, and suggests that it could have a similar effect in the United States, whose own role in the killings "has never officially been acknowledged, much less accounted for, though some of the relevant documents have been made available to the public."[23]
An Indonesian academic, Soe Tjen Marching, analyzed the film in relation to Hannah Arendt's theory of the banality of evil.[24]
The primary subjects in the film, Anwar Congo and Herman Koto, have seen the film and neither feels deceived, according to Oppenheimer. Oppenheimer says that upon watching the film Anwar Congo "started to cry...Tearfully, he told me: 'This is the film I expected. It's an honest film, a true film.' He said he was profoundly moved and will always remain loyal to it."[25] A subsequent interview on Al Jazeera's program "101 East" revealed that Anwar had misgivings about the film and the negative reaction to it in Indonesia, which was causing problems for him. He confided these concerns directly to Oppenheimer in an apparent Skype conversation displayed within the program.

THE ACT OF KILLING, the 2013 documentary about the political and criminal genocide in Indonesia of the 1960's and the ongoing unchecked abuses of power by government "thugs," has achieved international recognition. One of the most haunting films of the year, we discuss the filming, political and cultural factors of the genocide, impact and making of the film (featuring footage) with director Joshua Oppenheimer on this full length BYOD interview.
GUEST BIO:

The organization is so powerful that its leaders include government ministers, and they are happy to boast about everything from corruption and election rigging to genocide. A regime was founded on crimes against humanity, yet has never been held accountable.
Anwar and his friends agreed to make a fictional movie incorporating killings such as they committed in the past. Also there was filming behind the scenes, and interviews by Oppenheimer. Oppenheimer reserved the right to edit the material as he wished, and in fact used the material for this documentary, including only short scenes of the supposed fiction film Arsan dan Aminah (Arsan and Aminah).
With the script changing a few times, their experience of the killings was adapted to their favorite film genres: gangster, western, and musical. They wrote the scripts and played themselves and their victims.
Their fiction filmmaking process provides the film's dramatic arc, and on the film sets the filmmaker could safely challenge them about what they did, without fear of being arrested or beaten up, while for the protagonists they were seemingly safe spaces to explore their deepest memories and feelings (as well as their blackest humor). Some of Anwar's friends realize that the killings were wrong. Others worry about the consequence of the story on their public image. Younger members of Pemuda Pancasila argue that they should boast about the horror of the massacres, because their terrifying and threatening force is the basis of their power today. As opinions diverge, the atmosphere on set grows tense. The edifice of genocide as a "patriotic struggle", with Anwar and his friends as its heroes, begins to sway and crack.
After Anwar plays a victim he says that it was a horrible experience, like the victims must have undergone. The filmmaker points out that it was much worse for the victims, because that was real, and this is only acting. Thus the filmmaking process catalyzes an unexpected emotional journey for Anwar, from arrogance to regret as he confronts, for the first time in his life, the full implications of what he's done.

The elders of Israel did the same and sprinkled dust on their heads. Joshua said, ‘Alas, Sovereign Lord, why did you ever bring these people across the Jordan to deliver us into the hands of the Amorites to destroy us? If only we had been content to stay on the other side of the Jordan! Pardon your servant, Lord. What can I say, now that Israel has been routed by its enemies? The Canaanites and the other people in the country will hear about this, and they will surround us and wipe out our name from the earth. What then will you do for your own great name?’ The Lord said to Joshua, ‘Stand up! What are you doing down on your face? Israel has sinned; they have violated my covenant, which I commanded them to keep. They have taken some of the devoted things; they have stolen, they have lied, they have put them with their own possessions. That is why the Israelites cannot stand against their enemies; they turn their backs and run because they have been made liable to destruction. I will not be with you anymore unless you destroy whatever among you is devoted to destruction. Go, consecrate the people. Tell them, “Consecrate yourselves in preparation for tomorrow; for this is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: there are devoted things among you, Israel. You cannot stand against your enemies until you remove them. “In the morning, present yourselves tribe by tribe. The tribe that the Lord chooses shall come forward clan by clan; the clan that the Lord chooses shall come forward family by family, and the family that the Lord chooses shall come forward man by man. Whoever is caught with the devoted things shall be destroyed by fire, along with all that belongs to him. He has violated the covenant of the Lord and has done an outrageous thing in Israel!” ’ Achan replied, ‘It is true! I have sinned against the Lord, the God of Israel. They took the things from the tent, brought them to Joshua and all the Israelites, and spread them out before the Lord. Joshua said, ‘Why have you brought this trouble on us? The Lord will bring trouble on you today.’
The Lord said to Joshua, ‘Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged. Take the whole army with you, and go up and attack Ai. For I have delivered into your hands, the king of Ai, his people, his city, and his land. You shall do to Ai and its king as you did to Jericho and its king, except that you may carry off their plunder and livestock for yourselves. Set an ambush behind the city.’ Joshua and the whole army moved out to attack Ai. He chose 30 thousand of his best fighting men and sent them out at night. Joshua had taken about 5 thousand men and set them in ambush between Bethel and Ai, to the west of the city. Not a man remained in Ai or Bethel who did not go after Israel. They left the city open and went in pursuit of Israel. Joshua burned Ai and made it a permanent heap of ruins, a desolate place to this day. Joshua built on Mount Ebal, an altar to the Lord, the God of Israel, as Moses, the servant of the Lord, had commanded the Israelites.
However, when the people of Gibeon heard what Joshua had done to Jericho and Ai, 4they resorted to a ruse: They went as a delegation whose donkeys were loaded. they went to Joshua in the camp at Gilgal and said to him and the Israelites, ‘We have come from a distant country; make a treaty with us.’ Our elders and all those living in our country said to us, “Take provisions for your journey; go and meet them and say to them, ‘We are your servants; make a treaty with us.’ The Israelites sampled their provisions but did not enquire of the Lord. Joshua made a treaty of peace with them to let them live, and the leaders of the assembly ratified it by oath. Joshua saved them from the Israelites, and they did not kill them. Th at the day he made the Gibeonites woodcutters and water-carriers for the assembly, to provide for the needs of the altar of the Lord at the place the Lord would choose. And that is what they are to this day.

Prophet and his friends are carnies and itinerant criminals in Arizona. After robbing a liquor store Prophet and a friend evade the local Sheriff and stop at the ranch of Mark Hand, a decorated war veteran. Feeling suspicious, Mark tells Prophet he can help himself to water at a pump behind the house but covers him with a rifle. Prophet's friend overpowers Mark from behind, ties him up and beats him prior to robbing Mark's house. Attracted by the mass amount of firearms in Mark's cabinet, they are distracted by Mark's daughter Mary who Prophet's friend attempts to rape. Mary wounds him with a knife and escapes in the desert coming across the car returning home driven by Mrs Hand and Mary's brother Olie who has returned from the Vietnam War with decorations and mental illnesses. Prophet and his friend make their escape with Mark puzzled that Olie doesn't want to hunt the criminals, preferring to let the sheriff handle the matter.
Though glad to be home, Olie grows more sullen and uncommunicative. Two of Olie's war buddies visit the Hand ranch and reveal that Olie was their legendary commander of a 6-man long-range reconnaissance patrol of United States Army Rangers, with one patrol taking them to Haiphong where they escaped in a Russian ship. Despite the supporting presence of his comrades in arms and loving family Olie grows more withdrawn and prone to flashbacks to the war where he nearly kills one of his friends when the two engage in good-natured sparring.
Meanwhile, Prophet and his friends plan more criminal acts where they steal a large recreational vehicle that they plan to sell across the border in Mexico, but the gang murders the family who own it. Some members of Prophet's gang stop off at a gas station where they abuse the attendant until they are beaten up by Olie and his army buddies. Enraged, the Prophet plans revenge and a big criminal score where they will attack the Hand ranch, steal Hand's mass arsenal, recruit a motorcycle gang led by Pillbox to distract the sheriff, and rob the town's bank where they will split the proceeds with Pillbox and make their escape to Mexico that lies across open rangeland adjoining the Hand ranch. Olie bids his army buddies farewell then further descends into a self-pitying alcoholic stupor.
