We're in
Cannes and I'm delighted to say that I have
Kim Kardashian, one of the most famous celebrity brands in the world. What can be a better job than being
CEO of WVP in Cannes with Kim Kardashian. This is the first of hopefully, a series of talk shows with Kim. Arguably, the most famous person in the world under some criteria. Just tell us a little bit what you manage to do on social media because it is quite extraordinary in terms of your connections with the young and I would say middle aged and old people like me.
I really love social media. I think that it has completely heightened my career. I give it a lot of credit for my career. I love using it for so many different reasons.
Whether I am jet lagged and just want to entertain myself. I use it as a focus group, it's a free focus group.
Absolutely.
If I have a perfume bottle and I can't decide what color I should make it,
I'll post both colors and see which one they prefer.
The brand developed your mom and your sisters, the family. I mean it's a family brand. In a way it's like WVP. We have different brands in our agency and we have different brands.
It was always very clear that it had to be the whole family and it had to be, we had to have family unity and we have to just be who we are.
Family has always been very important in my life.
The family values thing is extremely, and empowered women and family values is a core part of it, so you started yeah?
Yeah, and we've always stayed true to that. We've always stuck together. That was very important to us.
One of the interesting things in talking to you and your mum just a few minutes ago was that you look at this as really very long term.
Absolutely, at the time when I was going through the divorce, I did say to everyone, "You guys, I think our careers are over. I hope you've saved your money."
Is that what you said?
You're really a creation or you've created the Kim Kardashian brand out of social media?
I believe so.
Well out of traditional media because you've done reality TV and social media has been the catalyst.
Yes.
Yes, well the team came to me with the idea to do a video game with me as the main character. It was an existing game and they wanted to re-vamp it with the Kim Kardashian version. I just had the baby, my husband and I had all these talks just about, not slowing down but only working on passion projects. My husband does only everything that he is one billion percent passionate about and he had seen me work on so many things that were a little bit all over the place.
Maybe I wasn't so passionate about everything.
More focus.
Yeah, so I wanted more focus and so I respect him and his opinion and I asked him, "what do you think of this video game do you think I should do it?" And he was like, "You have to do this."
Did you believe it would be as big as it turned out to be?
No, no. I'm always confident and if the team is confident
... But it was the first project in a long time that people were
100% positive. I think we have like this record of is comments that the app stores ever gotten and I think like 99% of everything was positive and that was such an uplifting feeling for me and it was such a confidence builder.
The game is a vehicle for you and you're bringing your sisters into it?
Yes. My mom's a character now. My two little sisters are a character, are characters and they ...
So you're going to bring the family Kardashian brands into it.
One of the problems with franchising is that you lose control of the process and the standards slip and it damages the brand.
Yeah. We have wanted to franchise our store for so long and one of my sisters, Kourtney, she is really tough on that for that reason and I respect that.
As you look at the social media landscape, fashion and beauty, womanhood, empowering women, family, what are one of the things that you look, what are the things that you really like to do? What are the things that you look at in the future? The things that you haven't done because you have done an awful lot at a relatively tender age.
I feel very satisfied. I like to nurture what I have. I don't really feel like I have to branch out. I think, you know
I ...
It's not, we're talking about Snapchat and you said you haven't gone on to Snapchat and what you would do is launch your own.
Not my own Snapchat but a live streaming service on my new website, that's launching this summer. Some type of, I mean it wouldn't be
This is the Jay-Z we're going to control it ourselves type?
No, I mean if Snapchat was fun and I had the time, I would try something close to that.
