Mosul (/moʊˈsuːl/; Arabic: الموصل – al-Mawṣil (local pronunciation: el-Mōṣul); Syriac: ܢܝܢܘܐ – Nînwe; Kurdish: مووسڵ – Mûsil) is a city of normally about two and a half million people (2014 est.) in northern Iraq, illegally occupied since 10 June 2014 by the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant.
Mosul is completely ruled by the Islamic State terror group headquartered in Al-Raqqah, Syria. The legitimate government of Iraq stopped paying salaries soon after the city was overrun by militants. (that ISIL allegedly exploited by stealing a generous percentage) which it had previously paid to city workers including nurses, doctors,
Located some 400 km (250 mi) north of Baghdad, the original city stands on the west bank of the Tigris River, opposite the ancient Assyrian city of Nineveh on the east bank, but the metropolitan area has grown to encompass substantial areas on both the "Left Coast" (east side) and the "Right Coast" (west side) as the two banks are described in the local language.
The University of Mosul is a public university located in Mosul. It is one of the largest educational and research centers in the Middle East, and the second largest in Iraq, behind the University of Baghdad.
The University of Mosul was closed by the ISIL regime in 2014 but reopened just after the few months with new buildings and courses. Over 8,000 books and 100,000 manuscripts in its library were believed to have been destroyed.
The University of Mosul was founded in April 1967, building on the foundations of the 1929 College of Medicine, under the control of the Ministry of Health.
The University was established to be an academic center of higher education in Mosul city and Iraq. Today the University offers accredited Bachelor's, Master's, and Doctorate degrees in more than 100 scientific specializations. More than 80,000 students have graduated since the foundation of the University.
The College is located in the Medical Township which includes the Teaching Hospitals in Al-Shifaa Court, Mosul City, Iraq. The College of Medicine was the first established College of what is now the University of Mosul, founded in 1959 and initially affiliated with the Department of Health and subsequently with the University of Baghdad. In April 1967 and with the establishment of the University of Mosul, the College became part of University of Mosul.
The Iraqi Army is the ground force component of the armed forces of the Republic of Iraq, having been active in various incarnations throughout the 20th century and 21st century.
The Iraqi Army in its modern form was first created by the United Kingdom during the inter-war period of de facto British control of Mandatory Iraq. Following the 2003 invasion of Iraq, the Iraqi Army was rebuilt along American lines with enormous amounts of U.S. military assistance at every level. Because of the Iraqi insurgency that began shortly after the invasion, the Iraqi Army was designed to initially be a counter-insurgency force. With the US withdrawal in December 2011, Iraqi forces have assumed full responsibility for security. A New York Times article suggested that, between 2004 and 2014, the USA had provided the Iraqi Army with $25billion in training and equipment in addition to an even larger sum from the Iraqi treasury.
The threat of war with newly forming Republic of Turkey, which claimed the Ottoman vilayet of Mosul as part of their country, led the British to form the Iraqi Army on 6 January 1921. The Mussa Al-Kadhum Brigade consisted of ex-Iraqi-Ottoman officers, whose barracks were located in Kadhimyah. The United Kingdom provided support and training to the Iraqi Army and the Iraqi Air Force through a small military mission based in Baghdad. Iraqi Army Day celebrates the soldiers that fight for Iraq.

Iraqi soldiers have advanced into the main university complex in the city of Mosul as part of a new push against ISIL militants. The army says the militants have been forced to retreat and a key bridge across the Tigris river has been retaken. Seizing back control of the university would be a symbolic victory for the army.
The Iraqi army is pressing ahead with its offensive to boot out Daesh Takfiri terrorists from eastern Mosul. Government forces have managed to reach the second bridge in the city’s east, which links to Mosul’s west that is largely controlled by the terrorists. They are also fighting to recapture the Mosul University as a part of their push to reach the eastern Bank of the Tigris River. The university compound is a symbolic landmark in Mosul that was used by Daesh as a base. The Iraqi forces have also liberated two districts in eastern Mosul. Military operations to recapture the Daesh-held city kicked off on October 17. From: http://www.youtube.com/user/videosptv January 14, 2017 - The Iraqi army is fighting Daesh terrorists inside the Mosul University campus for a second day, as government forces are pressing ahead to purge the Takfiris from the eastern half of the city. An Iraqi army official says the forces have cleared several departments, and the university is expected to be fully liberated shortly. Iraqi forces have also discovered chemicals used by terrorists to make weapons. The United Nations has previously warned that the terrorists have seized the university's nuclear materials used for research, after the Takfiris captured Mosul in 2014. Earlier in the day, the Iraqi army also recaptured the Yarimjah neighborhood in South-east Mosul. The strategic city is divided by the Tigris River. Cont...
After Mosul University was ravaged by fighting between Iraqi forces and jihadists from the Islamic State group, students now have to travel hours to attend classes on a makeshit campus, with narrow and unsuitable classrooms, on the eastern side of Iraq's second city.
The Iraqi army has fully recaptured the Mosul University campus from Daesh terrorists. This is part of an all-out offensive to boot out the Takfiris from the eastern half of the flashpoint city. A top military official says the Iraqi forces are now in control of 85 percent of the eastern side of Mosul. The army official says government forces may claw back the entire eastern half of the city in the next ten days. The university compound is a symbolic landmark in Mosul that was used by Daesh as a base to train terrorists and store chemical weapons. The strategic city is divided by the Tigris River. Regaining full control of the river's eastern bank will be pivotal in launching attacks on Daesh, that holds all the districts west of the river. Watch Live: http://www.presstv.com/live.ht...

In 2014, Islamic State militants swept into Western Iraq's Anbar Province, overrunning Iraqi security forces, enslaving minorities, and causing thousands to flee for their lives. The jihadist group captured Iraq’s largest city, Mosul, and the cities of Ramadi and Fallujah, where hundreds of US troops died fighting the Islamic State’s predecessor. Now, two years later, the Iraqi security forces, with help from Iranian-supported Shiite militias and US military advisors and warplanes, are fighting to take back towns and cities in Anbar, one battle at a time. But it’s a difficult task: Anbar has been the crucible of Iraq’s insurgency, and is the country’s Sunni heartland — long marginalized by and hostile to the Shiite-led government in Baghdad. WATCH NOW - TERROR: The Islamic State: http://bit.ly/2f0b8xQ The Islamic State, a hardline Sunni jihadist group that formerly had ties to al Qaeda, has conquered large swathes of Iraq and Syria. Previously known as the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), the group has announced its intention to reestablish the caliphate and has declared its leader, the shadowy Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, as the caliph. The lightning advances the Islamic State made across Syria and Iraq in June shocked the world. But it's not just the group's military victories that have garnered attention — it's also the pace with which its members have begun to carve out a viable state. Flush with cash and US weapons seized during its advances in Iraq, the Islamic State's expansion shows no sign of slowing down. In the...
