Rodrigo Alejandro Bueno (/roʊˈdriːɡoʊ ɑːlɛˈxɑːndroʊ bʊˈɛnoʊ /; May 24, 1973 – June 24, 2000), known by his stage name Rodrigo or his nickname "El Potro" ("the Colt"), was an Argentine singer of cuarteto music. Bueno's style was marked by his on-stage energy and charisma. His short, dyed hair and casual clothes differed from typical cuarteto singers with strident colors and long curly hair. During his career, Bueno expanded cuarteto music to the Argentine national scene, remaining one of the main figures of the genre.
The son of Eduardo Alberto Bueno, a record shop owner and music producer, and Beatriz Olave, a songwriter and newsstand owner, Rodrigo Bueno was born into the cuarteto musical scene in Córdoba, Argentina. He first appeared on television was at the age of two, on the show Fiesta de Cuarteto, along with family friend Juan Carlos "La Mona" Jiménez. With the help of his father, he recorded an album of children's songs, Disco Baby, at the age of five. During his preteen years he informally joined the local band Chébere during live performances. He dropped out of school at the age of twelve and successfully auditioned for the band Manto Negro. After five years without success in Córdoba, Bueno's father decided to try to launch his son's career as a soloist in Buenos Aires, Argentina. In 1990 Bueno released his first record, La Foto de tu Cuerpo, on Polygram Records. Bueno introduced his next album, Aprendiendo a Vivir, with a live performance at the nightclub Fantástico Bailable. The performance brought him his first recognition in the tropical music scene.

Full interview with Sixto Rodriguez and Malik Bendjelloul here: http://bit.ly/UTIvvK The Weekly Comet hosts Tamara Conniff and Jonathan McHugh present an exclusive performance with singer/songwriter Rodriguez, who is the subject of the Oscar winning "Searching for Sugar Man." Sixto Rodriguez' story is truly inspirational. A native of Detroit, in the 1970s he recorded two albums which went largely unnoticed in the U.S. He hung up his guitar and went to work in construction for 30 years. However, unbeknownst to Rodriguez his albums gained popularity internationally, going platinum in South Africa and becoming the anthem of resistance in the Apartheid-era. Director Malik Bendjelloul's "Searching for Sugar Man" chronicles the journey of two fans on a mission to find out what had happened to...

Rodrigo Amarante has made the year's tenderest record. Cavalo is sonically rich and spare at the same time: Every instrument breathes and every sound blends, yet every moment is distinct. At Cavalo's core are heartfelt songs and Amarante's sweet, smoky voice. Amarante is from Rio de Janeiro, and these days lives in Los Angeles. You may know him from a few other projects: Rio's Los Hermanos, as well as Little Joy, which included Binki Shapiro and Strokes drummer Fabrizio Moretti. For his Tiny Desk Concert, Amarante brought his small Harmony parlor guitar from the '30s, known lovingly as "Butter." These songs are stripped to their essence, and what you'll encounter here — and what you can't hear on Cavalo — is the warm, approachable singer's physical presence. Prepare to be drawn close to ...
That performance made me feel so good! A good mix between Spanish guitar, rhythmic cajon, flamenco and gipsy influences, jazz, and the energy of the street! Reminded me a bit of the legendary Al Di Meola, John McLaughlin and Paco de Lucia, and their amazing "Friday Night in San Francisco" performance from 1981!

Guitarist: Narciso Yepes / Conductor: Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos "Narciso Yepes gave a most delicate account of Rodrigo's Concierto de Aranjuez. The range of timbres he can produce, to contrast phrases and to shape them, is astonishing . . . The work is not worthy of such playing." (Paul Griffiths 1974, The Times, London, 6 Nov., p. 11) "What can I say about Narciso Yepes? What can I say about the guitarist to whom we owe the international success of the Concerto de Aranjuez? Yes, it was in Paris in 1947 where Ataulfo Argenta, Yepes and the Spanish National Orchestra met to illuminate my unique opus at a time when no one knew its true future. From then on, the Concierto de Aranjuez took on a new nature, and it is for this same reason that I am grateful to Narciso Yepes for the fruit of an...

The concerto was originally written for classical guitar and arranged for harp by Rodrigo at the request of harpist Nicanor Zabaleta in 1974. This performance blends both versions, hoping to capture as much authenticity as possible of the original composition.
